Expressing grief over the deaths of 11 people in a stampede in Bengaluru during a celebration of the RCB's victory in the IPL, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the tragedy "heartrending" and said his thoughts are with the families of the victims.

A stampede occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium as thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of players from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which won the Indian Premier League after 18 long years. At least 11 people died and over 30 were injured in the stampedes.
The BJP has accused the Congress government in the state of seeking publicity and not making adequate arrangements for the celebration.
"It's heartbreaking to see such loss because of poor planning and crowd mismanagement. The state government in Karnataka has clearly failed in its responsibility. Celebrations are one thing, but the State government without proper planning, without taking emergency services into confidence, took this urgent and unfortunate decision. This could have been avoided (sic)," senior BJP leader and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi wrote on X.
"The government is responsible for this and accountability needs to be fixed," he added.
Asked about the BJP's allegations, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed them, saying, "They are there to allege, we are here to protect. I am going to the hospital now."
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the incident and said nobody expected such a large crowd. "The capacity of the stadium is only 35,000, but two to three lakh thousand people turned up for the celebration. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry," he said.

'The government acted only when pressure mounted. The real accused are Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara. They should be investigated,' Vijayendra said. Following the tragedy, the government suspended multiple senior police officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. He was replaced by senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh, who officially took charge on Friday. The list of suspended officers includes Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, DCP (Central) Shekhar HT, ACP Balakrishna, and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK. PM Modi inaugurates world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The PM was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Before the inauguration, the PM inspected the bridge and spoke to the engineers and the labourers, who turned the dream into a reality. The Chenab rail bridge is the architectural marvel; it is located at a height of 359 meters above the river, and is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge is built to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Through the Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge, it will take just about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing existing travel time by 2-3 hours. The 272-km USBRL project is built at a cost of around Rs 43,780 crore, and includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration. REASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated Chenab bridge - the world's highest railway arch bridge in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.
