Bangalore Watch Company™ Enters GPHG 2025, the Oscars of Luxury Watches

Bangalore Watch Company™, a luxury watch brand based in India, has entered the 2025 edition of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genve (GPHG) – widely regarded as the most prestigious award in the world of watchmaking.
Two watches in Agumbe
Two watches from the brand's Peninsula Professional collection, launched earlier this year, have been submitted for consideration: Peninsula Agumbe in the Sports category, and Peninsula Mannar in the Challenge category. Before the formal nomination was submitted, the GPHG jury independently put forward the Peninsula collection – an early and significant recognition for the brand.
'This is an incredibly proud moment for us,' said Nirupesh Joshi, Co-Founder of Bangalore Watch Company. 'Since we founded the brand in 2018, our aim has always been to elevate watchmaking from India to global standards, and this recognition by the GPHG jury is a huge pat on the back for the work that the team has put in over the years. It shows that our work is being noticed globally!'
The Peninsula Professional collection was launched in April 2025 as a celebration of India's geographic diversity. With watches celebrating the Himalayas, the Oceans, and the Western Ghats, the brand has positioned the Peninsula collection as an all-purpose outdoor watch. The watches are built for 200 Meters of water resistance, made of a unibody surgical-grade steel case, with Sapphire crystal housing. The watches are also powered by highly accurate Swiss Automatic movements.
'The Agumbe with its deep green dial draws from the dense rainforests of the Western Ghats. And the Mannar is a limited-edition with a dial made from a rare black mother-of-pearl, inspired by the ancient pearl diving tradition of the Gulf of Mannar. We're really thrilled to present these watches to the GPHG jury this year.' said Mercy Amalraj, Co-Founder of the brand. 'India is becoming a fast-growing market for Swiss luxury watches; it almost feels like a coming of age when Indian customers appreciate luxury watches. All eyes are on India at the moment. However, this recognition for a small brand like ours is a sign that India should not just be viewed as a consumer of luxury watches but has the potential to produce brands that can be appreciated globally for our storytelling, design, and world-class craftsmanship,' added Joshi.

Resto war heats up in Hills as Darj icons vie with brand from Kolkata

Kolkata: Darjeeling's iconic confectionery Glenary's and breakfast joint Keventer's now face competition from Kolkata's heritage tea room Flurys, with the latter setting up shop a few metres away on Nehru Road. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Flurys, the European-style tea room on Park Street in Kolkata, was founded by Swiss couple Mr and Mrs J Flury in 1927. The Apeejay Group acquired Flurys in 1965. Despite its popularity, it continued to exist only on Park Street until the turn of the century. It was around 2013 that it began expanding. This expansion drive picked up speed in recent years, with the setting up of outlets in neighbourhoods across Kolkata. Beyond Kolkata, Flurys now has around 15 outlets in Mumbai, apart from two each in Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar, and one each in Delhi, Indore, and Gangtok. In recent years, it has expanded beyond Kolkata to the rest of Bengal, with outlets and kiosks in Durgapur, Serampore, and Chandannagar in south Bengal, and six locations in north Bengal, including two in Siliguri. The Flurys outlet in Darjeeling is the seventh unit in north Bengal and the 103rd overall. Situated in the Shangrila Complex, just a few steps from Darjeeling Mall, it will not only give competition to Glenary's, which was set up in 1885, but also to Keventer's. The 26-seater outlet retains Flurys' signature rose-pink interior and vintage-style decor. On its menu are signature Flurys items, like buttery chicken patties, zesty lemon tarts, rum balls, and the classic English breakfast. It will also serve Darjeeling tea in Darjeeling. Darjeeling has seen several cafes come up in recent years, including Himalayan Coffee, which serves confectioneries in a cosy setting, Himalayan Java Coffee, which specialises in Indian coffee beans roasted in-house, Tom & Jerry's Cafe, which serves all-day breakfast, the rooftop tea bar and cafe Golden Tips Teattoria Chowrasta, and Frank Ross Cafe, which serves vegan food.

India To Get 3 Apache Helicopters From U.S. Next Week, To Be Stationed On Pakistan Border

India is set to receive the first consignment of advanced AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the U.S. on July 21. These helicopters will be deployed along the Pakistan border and will land at the Indian Air Force's Hindon Air Force Station for immediate use. The Apaches significantly boost India's army offensive and reconnaissance capabilities. The Indian Army raised its first Apache squadron over 15 months ago in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, but deployment was delayed due to supply chain issues and geopolitical shifts. Meanwhile, two Apache squadrons are already active with the Indian Air Force in Pathankot and Jorhat.#apachehelicopters #indianarmy #iaf #indiadefence #pakistanborder #makeinindia #usindia #militaryupgrade #ah64e #hindonairforcestation #defence #toi #toibharat Read More

Switzerland's Richemont kicks off FY26 with strong Q1 sales of $6.2 bn

Swiss luxury group Richemont has reported a solid start to fiscal 2026 (FY26), with sales rising by 6 per cent year-over-year (YoY) at constant exchange rates to €5.41 billion (~$6.27 billion) in the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. At actual exchange rates, sales increased by 3 per cent YoY, despite persistent macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties. Region-wise, the growth was led by double digit increases in Europe, the Americas and Middle East and Africa, more than offsetting Japan's sales decline against high prior-year comparatives; sales in the Asia Pacific region remained stable, Richemont said in a press release. Richemont has reported a strong start to FY26 with Q1 sales rising 6 per cent YoY at constant rates to €5.41 billion (~$6.27 billion). Growth was led by Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East & Africa, offsetting declines in Japan. All sales channels grew 6 per cent. The group maintained a strong net cash position of €7.4 billion (~$8.58 billion) as of June 30, 2025. In Europe, sales grew by 11 per cent, driven by robust demand from local clients and overall positive tourist spend. Almost all main markets in the region saw an increase in sales this quarter, with notable performances in Italy and Germany. In the Americas, sales growth remained strong at 17 per cent, driven by supportive local demand across all business areas and markets. Sales in the Middle East & Africa region rose by 17 per cent, led by the United Arab Emirates market as well as higher tourist spend. In Japan, sales declined by 15 per cent against a demanding 59 per cent comparative in the prior-year period, with a strengthening Yen strongly reducing tourist spend, most notably from Chinese clientele, whilst local demand remained positive. Asia Pacific sales were stable overall versus the prior-year period, as a 7 per cent decline in China, Hong Kong and Macau combined was fully compensated by robust growth in almost all other Asian markets. Sales in Australia and South Korea were up double digits, added the release. Channel-wise, all distribution channels posted 6 per cent growth at constant exchange rates. Retail contributed €3.73 billion, accounting for 69 per cent of group sales, with growth seen across all regions except Japan. Online retail rose to €323 million, and wholesale and royalty income reached €1.36 billion, driven by increases in the Americas, Europe, and Middle East & Africa. Richemont maintained a robust net cash position of €7.4 billion (~$8.58 billion) as of June 30, 2025, slightly up from €7.3 billion in the previous year. This follows a €426 million cash outflow related to the sale of YNAP to Mytheresa on April 23, 2025. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (SG)
