Assassin's Creed Shadows is the success story Ubisoft needs as it takes the number one spot on Steam's top sellers chart in multiple countries.
Assassin's Creed Shadows only came out yesterday, but it's already the top-selling Steam game in the US, UK, Brazil, Singapore, and more countries. The game's official Twitter account writes: "Excited to be back… Full Steam ahead! Thank you for your support, Assassins!"
It's no surprise the game is doing so well considering Ubisoft tweeted that it had over one million players not even a full 24 hours after launching.
After the middling success of Star Wars Outlaws and the decision to shut down the live-service shooter XDefiant just months after it was released, Shadows needed to be a big win for Ubisoft. It was delayed several times so that the company could polish it and ensure it was to a high standard, and it seems like that was absolutely the correct decision, as reviews have been great too. In our own Assassin's Creed Shadows review, we said the game has "more confidence, texture, and purpose than we've seen since Assassin's Creed pivoted into RPG territory," and we've ranked it highly on our list of the best Assassin's Creed games, too.
Ubisoft is reportedly currently working on some sort of "IP unit" that would include franchises like Assassin's Creed. No one is actually sure exactly what this is yet, but with the success of Shadows, it should be easier for the company to convince investors to back its alleged plans.
These sales figures should also help appease shareholders, one of whom was reportedly planning a protest against the company's "horribly mismanaged" plans and "declining shareholder value." Ubisoft's stock did get a little bump earlier this month, but it's down year on year.
Shadows was discussed by the Prime Minister of Japan due to a controversy started by an Assassin's Creed Shadows preview that showed someone desecrating shrines in-game. There has since been a day-one patch that makes some of the objects within indestructible.
Once you're done with Shadows, check out all the new games of 2025 that you still have to look forward to.

Nintendo "won't know" if the Switch 2 eShop will crash on launch day as everyone rushes to download Mario Kart World, former marketing leads warn, but "they're prepared"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Switch 2's launch is finally upon us this week, and there are understandably a few concerns from fans wondering if the Nintendo eShop will be able to withstand the surge of people rushing to download Mario Kart World as soon as its metaphorical doors are opened. According to two of the company's former marketing leads, that's not something Nintendo will know in advance, but it will be "prepared" to fix any problems. Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang – once the hosts of Nintendo Minute, and respectively the former director of social media marketing and original content and senior manager of creator relations and original content at Nintendo of America – have released a new video (further below) discussing what the company is likely to be busy with behind the scenes in the run-up to the console's launch on June 5. Ellis mentions the worries from players that the eShop could potentially "burst into flames," noting that all those who've purchased the Mario Kart World console bundle will be receiving a download code that they must redeem in order to play it. That's in addition to other things like the Switch system transfers, and returning fans redownloading their Switch libraries, that are likely to keep Nintendo's servers busy. Addressing this, Ellis notes that not only is the new console's launch thankfully staggered worldwide thanks to time zone differences, but "there are a lot of people right now who are planning for this, have probably been talking about this for weeks if not months." Specifically, he says these employees will have been discussing "what can we do, how can we stay in touch," pointing out that Nintendo of America will likely want to hear how things go in Japan, where the console will be launching a few hours sooner. "'Please give us your updates, is there anything that you did, is there anything that you saw that you didn't expect so that we can be ready,'" he says, giving an example of a conversation likely to be happening very soon. "This game of like Telephone and, you know, collective planning is happening in a big way right now." Yang notes that this process is called "triaging," and it's something that only happens "during really, really big things like big launches like this." It requires those involved to "be on a call about every two hours or so," even into the night, to give updates on the current situation – good or bad. The communications team is on hand to potentially "communicate out to the general public, like 'hey we recognize that there's an issue happening, here's the fixes that are coming" if things start to go awry, giving indications of when things might be back online and what's being done to fix it. She notes that Nintendo won't "know 100% what is going to happen, it's a wait and see," while Ellis agrees: "They won't know until the thing actually happens." Although this could sound a little bit concerning, Yang reassures: "Yes, but they're prepared in terms of like having a team that can either fix it, or work on a fix, and communicate that out to people." Yang adds that a team will be "on call," with Ellis saying that he can "remember many Christmas days where we had these calls scheduled, like 'Oh the eShop has died, and here's what's happening.'" On the other hand, however, launches that Nintendo had "been nervous" about, like Fortnite's Switch release, ended up going without a hitch. Here's hoping that issues are minimal when the new console's launch actually rolls around on Thursday. New on Prime Video in June 2025 — all the new shows and movies to stream this month

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A new month means many things, but in this specific instance, it means fresh Prime Video titles are coming our way. As of our latest update, Amazon has now released the streaming service's full June 2025 schedule. With that on hand, we've added the comprehensive list of everything coming our way this month below. You can also find our top picks for June below, too. One of them is "Deep Cover," a new London-set comedy crime caper starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed. Plus, there's a new adaptation of "We Were Liars" to look forward to, and, in late June, Prime Video is treating us to a "Countdown," an explosive new crime thriller series. If none of our picks resonate with you, be sure to check out our round-ups of the best movies and shows on Prime Video for more recommendations. Otherwise, here's everything new to Prime Video in June 2025, including all the new TV shows, movies and live sport you can watch this month. "American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans" is a feature-length documentary that recounts NASCAR's 2023 endeavor to complete the centenary edition of the legendary endurance race with an American stock car. At the time, NASCAR CEO Jim France recruited NASCAR's franchise's most successful team to build, modify, and race the Chevrolet Camaro car in this grueling challenge. With the aid of world-class drivers Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockefeller, Hendrick Motorsports strove to turn the car into a vehicle capable of rising to the occasion. And in this new release, you can learn all about this story of innovation and determination on Prime Video. Stream "American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans" on Prime Video from June 12 If you're looking for some adrenaline-pumping entertainment, Prime Video's upcoming crime thriller "Countdown" has you covered. Created by Derek Haas (exec producer of the "One Chicago" and "FBI" franchises), "Countdown" is a new action-packed show that sees an undercover team enter a race against time to save the lives of millions living in Los Angeles. LAPD detective Mark Meachum ("Supernatural", "The Boys") is drafted into the secret task force after a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight, and the hunt for the killer uncovers a far more sinister plot. Expect stunts, shoot-outs and more, and look forward to the series' three-episode premiere this June. Stream "Countdown" on Prime Video from June 25 "Deep Cover" is my most anticipated Prime Video release of the month, as the combination of an off-beat pitch (comedians go deep undercover) and the core cast involved makes for a winning combo. Tom Kingsley's upcoming comedy follows three improv comics — teacher Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her students (Orlando Bloom and "Ted Lasso" star Nick Mohammed) — as they accept a dangerous mission from a London undercover cop (Sean Bean). Together, they're dispatched to infiltrate London's gangland, using their "skills" to impersonate dangerous criminals. Everything I've seen so far suggests it's gonna be a fun time, and I can't wait to see what's in store. Stream "Deep Cover" on Prime Video from June 12 "Head Over Heels" is a new Prime Video K-drama billed as a combination of "heart-fluttering romance with supernatural intrigue." The series revolves around Park Seong-A (Cho Yi-hyun), a high school student leading a double life: by day, she's a normal pupil, but by night, she's a powerful shamaness. Her life takes a surprising turn when she crosses paths with a handsome new transfer student, Bae Gyeon-U (Choo Young-woo), who suffers from an unlucky fate. Park Seong-A sees a vision that suggests his death is imminent, and, after falling head over heels for the new boy, she vows to save his life. Stream "Head Over Heels" on Prime Video from June 23 "We Were Liars" is an adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling YA novel of the same name that follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her inner circle, called the Liars. The Sinclairs are New England royalty, known for sharing an enviable bond, for good looks, and for their wealth. But after her life is changed by a mysterious accident, it seems that everyone Cadence knows, including her beloved Liars, has something to hide. Excited to see the book brought to life? Look forward to binge-watching "We Were Liars" in June, as all eight episodes are being dropped at once. Prime Video's summer buddy comedy with John Cena and Idris Elba just got an action-packed new trailer — and it looks like a wild ride

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Prime Video just gave us a fresh look at its upcoming summer watch, "Heads of State," and action-comedy fans are going to want to add it to their watchlist. The previous "Heads of State" trailer already made the streaming service's upcoming release look like a chaotic caper, but this new teaser shows off even more overblown, tongue-in-cheek action. Check it out below: The other big difference here is that the so-called "final trailer" is narrated by a figure who looks and sounds an awful lot like "District 9" star Sharlto Copley. He gives us a rundown of the plot: The titular political top dogs ("The Suicide Squad" co-stars John Cena and Idris Elba) were on board Air Force One while it got shot down, and they need the help of MI6's Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) to prevent World War III. How's that for stakes? From there, the new "Heads of State" trailer wraps up with another showcase of more explosions, stunts, and shootouts. Cena and Elba have already proved they have solid comic chemistry, and I have a feeling their collective charisma could end up making "Heads of State" a fun watch. Hopefully, they'll be able to put their differences aside and pull together on this next adventure. If you're looking for a silly, high-octane adventure to add to your summer watchlist, "Heads of State" looks like the one to watch. "Heads of State" has Ilya Naishuller ("Nobody", "Hardcore Henry") and was written by Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query. The new trailer already gives us a fairly robust rundown of the plot, but if you'd like a more traditional synopsis, Prime Video's got you covered. It reads: "In the action-comedy 'Heads of State,' the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries' 'special relationship.' But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary—who proves more than a match for the two leaders' security forces—they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. "Ultimately allied with the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world." In addition to the stars listed above, the movie also features Paddy Considine ("House of the Dragon"), Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid and Sarah Niles. Looking forward to watching "Heads of State" on Prime Video? You don't have to wait too much longer; the new buddy comedy is due to premiere on Wednesday, July 2.
