Chhattisgarh: Maoists kill three villagers in Bijapur, say police
Maoists in Chhattisgarh killed three villagers in Bijapur district on Tuesday on suspcions of them being informers, the police said.
Initial reports suggest that the victims, all residents of Peddakorma (Nayapara) village, were strangled with ropes by Maoists.
'We received information late in the evening. Since the village is in the core area of Maoists and deep inside the forest, the bodies are yet to be recovered,' Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav said on Tuesday night.
The police described the killings as a 'cowardly act of Maoists', alleging that the motive was to instill fear and terror among local villagers.

Three Maoists including central committee member killed in encounter with police in Andhra's ASR
VISAKHAPATNAM: Three Maoists, including a senior Central Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist), were killed in an exchange of fire with the Greyhounds, near Akooru village in the Maredumilli forest area of Alluri Sitarama Raju district on Wednesday morning. According to police sources, the encounter took place during a combing operation in the forest region near Rampachodavaram. The deceased Maoists were identified as Gajarla Ravi alias Uday, a Central Committee Member of the CPI (Maoist) and Secretary of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC); Aruna, a South Zonal Committee Member and wife of the late Central Committee Member Chalapathi, who was recently killed in Chhattisgarh; and another member. According to initial reports, security forces recovered three AK-47 rifles from the encounter site. No injuries or casualties were reported among the police personnel. Efforts are underway to retrieve the bodies from the location.

UP woman's suicide bid thwarted after her social media post triggers alert
Raebareli , A 21-year-old woman, distressed by her family's pressure to marry, posted a concerning message on Instagram that hinted at a possible suicide. Fortunately, her post alerted Meta, which led to a swift response from the police, officials said on Wednesday. The woman, a final-year undergraduate student from Devanandpur Nai Basti, posted a photo of capsules on Instagram along with a message that read: "Goodbye, sorry mamma papa," at 7.42 pm on June 16. The post triggered an immediate alert from Meta to Uttar Pradesh Police's Social Media Centre in Lucknow. The alert was escalated to the state Director General of Police , Rajeev Krishna, who instructed officers to trace the woman's location using the phone number associated with her account. Within eight minutes of receiving the alert, a police team from the Mill Area Police Station reached the woman's house and found her safe but emotionally disturbed. She was given immediate counselling and medical attention, and the police also spoke to her family. "The young woman wanted to focus on her education, but her parents were pressuring her to get married. Distressed over this, she made the post. Fortunately, we received the alert in time and were able to intervene. Both she and her family have now agreed to resolve the matter peacefully," Mill Area SHO Rajeev Singh said. In a similar incident in the Deoria district recently, a 20-year-old student was saved after he posted a distressing suicide note and a picture on Instagram. On June 12, the man from the Bhalauni area shared a message in Hindi saying, "Forgive me, brothers, today I'm going to die," along with a photo showing a noose around his neck. The post triggered an alert from Meta at 3.44 pm to the UP Police Social Media Centre in Lucknow. The alert was relayed to the Deoria district police with the individual's location details. A police sub-inspector from Bhalauni reached the student's home within 12 minutes, found him attempting to hang himself, and managed to rescue him in the nick of time. The student later explained that he was under stress due to a bank loan taken by his parents that they were unable to repay. A recent notice and a heated exchange over the matter left him feeling deeply guilty, pushing him toward the drastic step. After counselling, the student assured the police he would not repeat such an act, officials said. Between January 1, 2023, and June 16, 2025, the collaboration between Meta and the UP Police helped save 1,024 lives throughout the state by responding to social media alerts, the police said.

A lawyer, his son, and five others duped a youth of Rs 38 lakh by faking an IAS appointment letter. Police suspect links to a broader fraud network A highly unusual case of fraud has surfaced in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a lawyer, his son, and five associates allegedly defrauded a young man of Rs 38 lakh by falsely promising to secure him a position as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The accused reportedly utilised a forged admit card, a counterfeit appointment letter, and a fabricated seal of the Government of India to perpetrate the scheme. The incident occurred in Laxmanpur Colony, situated in the Nagar Kotwali area. Local police have registered a case against seven individuals, including the lawyer and his son. IAS Job Scam The victim, Pranjal Tripathi, stated that he had appeared for the preliminary stage of the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2022. During this period, he became acquainted with Pranav Dwivedi, son of advocate Bajrang Dwivedi, a resident of Pipri Sai Nathpur in the Kurebhar area. According to Pranjal Tripathi, Pranav Dwivedi frequently visited his home and claimed to possess strong connections with Union Ministers, further asserting that he had previously helped several candidates become IAS and PCS officers. Fake Admit Card, Forged Appointment Letter Enticed by the prospect of achieving their long-cherished dream, Pranjal Tripathi and his family fell prey to the ruse. On January 18, 2023, in Lucknow, Pranav Dwivedi allegedly handed Pranjal Tripathi a fake admit card for the UPSC Mains and Interview and demanded multiple payments. These included Rs 26.5 lakh into his father's account, Rs 7 lakh into the account of neighbour Manish Dubey, Rs 80,000 to friend Shreyansh Agrahari, and Rs 2 lakh through Deepak Patel's shop, in addition to Rs 10,500 via Google Pay. In an extraordinary twist, Pranav Dwivedi and his associate Raj Mishra allegedly provided Pranjal Tripathi with a forged appointment letter bearing the Government of India seal, dated June 22, 2023. However, no appointment ever materialised. When Pranjal Tripathi began pressing for the return of the money, he was reportedly subjected to threats. Police Investigation Following his complaint to Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh, a formal case was lodged against Pranav Dwivedi, Bajrang Dwivedi, Manish Dwivedi, Ashish Dwivedi, Raj Mishra, Shreyansh Agrahari, and Deepak Patel. Additional Superintendent of Police Akhand Pratap Singh confirmed that a case involving fraudulent activity amounting to Rs 38 lakh under the pretext of securing an IAS post has been registered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the matter is suspicious, and further actions will be taken based on evidence. Authorities have also indicated the possibility that the accused may be linked to a wider fraud network.
