Sri Lankan flight from Chennai searched after India flags possible Pahalgam-linked suspects on board
Colombo/New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) A Sri Lankan Airlines flight arriving from Chennai was subjected to a special search operation at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake today following intelligence information received from India regarding the possible arrival of six suspects, allegedly linked to the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir.
According to police, the information had alleged that the suspects may have arrived in Sri Lanka onboard a flight from Chennai (UL 122) which landed at BIA at around 11.59 a.m. on Saturday.
The intelligence information prompting the search operation was provided by Indian authorities, Police said.
The search operation was jointly carried out by the Sri Lanka Police, the Sri Lanka Air Force, and airport security personnel.
However, airport authorities said that the aircraft was thoroughly searched and that there are no reports of any suspicious persons arriving in the country on the flight in question.
In a statement, Sri Lankan Airlines said Flight UL 122, operated by aircraft 4R-ALS, landed in Colombo at 11:59 a.m. and underwent a comprehensive inspection coordinated with local authorities.
The alert was issued by the Chennai Area Control Centre concerning a suspect believed to be on board.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft was cleared following the inspection, but noted that the subsequent flight, UL 308 to Singapore, has been delayed due to the security procedures.
'Sri Lankan Airlines prioritizes the safety and security of all passengers and crew and remains committed to maintaining the highest safety standards,' the statement added.

Pak couple dead in flat, cops suspect murder-suicide
Navi Mumbai: A 45-year-old Pakistani national is suspected to have stabbed to death his wife, also a Pakistani, with a kitchen knife and then died by suicide at their rental flat in Kharghar on Monday. The wife had stab injuries on the neck, back and shoulder. Deepak Surve, senior inspector, Kharghar police, said the man, Notan Das alias Sanjay Sachdeva, was accused of assaulting his wife, Sapna Das (35), in front of some neighbours last month, but the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him. The couple arrived in India with their two minor children on long-term visa more than six months ago. Sapna's sister, Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen, took a flat on rent for them in Dolphine Pride Society in Sector 34, Kharghar. Makhija was reportedly taking care of their financial needs. A senior police officer said following the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, the couple was in the process of completing the administrative formalities of returning home. Surve said when the younger child returned from his coaching class on Monday, he found the main door locked from the inside. His sibling was not at home either. "There was no response to repeated knocks. The child sought the help of a neighbour, who entered the flat through a common balcony. The neighbour found the couple in a pool of blood," said Surve. After last month's alleged assault, Makhija had sought police's help but they expressed helplessness after Sapna refused to file a complaint.

They said that many middle-class people are suffering from this evil act.
