In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the customs department at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Mumbai, seized approximately 8.6 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic weed, also known as hydroponic marijuana, valued at Rs 8.6 crore in the illicit market. The operation, carried out on June 2 and 3, led to the arrest of three Indian nationals who had arrived from Bangkok.
The action was taken by officers of Mumbai Customs Zone III who were working on specific intelligence inputs regarding drug smuggling through air routes. Two passengers landed on June 3 by Thai flight SL218, while the third arrived earlier by flight VZ760, all from Bangkok. Acting on suspicion, customs officials intercepted the individuals shortly after they landed at the airport.
Upon preliminary questioning, all three passengers displayed signs of nervousness and discomfort, raising red flags for the team. A thorough examination of their baggage led to the discovery of carefully concealed hydroponic weed—an advanced form of cannabis grown in controlled environments using nutrient-rich water instead of soil. This type of marijuana is known for its potency and high street value.
The entire consignment, weighing 8.6 kg in total, has been seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. All three individuals have been arrested and further investigation is currently underway to determine the broader network behind this smuggling attempt.
The seizure underscores the growing trend of synthetic and high-potency drug smuggling through air routes, especially from Southeast Asian hubs like Bangkok.
The successful operation not only prevented a large quantity of narcotics from reaching the streets but also highlights the increasing use of airports like Mumbai for smuggling hydroponic marijuana. As international drug syndicates adapt with newer smuggling techniques, Indian enforcement agencies are stepping up efforts with sharper intelligence and advanced surveillance tools.

‘Shining Stars' awards to SSC, Inter merit students
Guntur: The State government decided to give Shining Stars awards to the students, who secured highest marks in SSC and Intermediate public examinations. Rs 54 crore to boost police infrastructure in north Chennai
CHENNAI: Acting on Chief Minister M K Stalin's directive, the state government has sanctioned Rs 54.36 crore for strengthening police infrastructure and public safety under the North Chennai Development Plan (Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam). The funds, approved through the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), will be used to enhance surveillance, build new facilities and promote welfare initiatives for police personnel and the public. Key allocations include Rs 16 crore for a new integrated police station at V-6 Kolathur and Rs 15 crore for a new building at Peravallur station. The Kolathur facility will house law and order units, crime and cybercrime wings, a women's station, barracks, and a fire station. To strengthen surveillance, Rs 9.16 crore will be used to instal automatic number plate recognition cameras at 45 locations. A sum of Rs 90.6 lakh has been earmarked for getting 60 two-wheeler patrol vehicles.

Supreme Court slaps notice on KTR over alleged Musi scam
Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to KT Rama Rao in the case related to the BRS leader's allegations of corruption by the Congress government to the tune of Rs 25,000 crore in Musi. A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Friday on the petition filed by Congress leader Atram Suguna. A bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma heard the petition. Rama Rao had previously alleged that the Congress government had committed a scam of Rs 25,000 crore in the name of Musi rejuvenation. Expressing strong objection to the allegations made by KTR, Congress leader Atram Suguna filed a complaint at the Utnur police station. The police registered a case against KTR based on the complaint of the Congress leader. KTR had earlier approached the Telangana High Court to quash the case registered against him. After hearing the arguments, the High Court gave a verdict quashing the FIR registered against KTR. However, Suguna filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict. The hearing on this was held on Friday and the Supreme Court issued notices to KTR asking him to reply to the petition.
