Yahoo19-04-2025

Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Nico Iamaleava has finally broken his silence on his decision to enter the transfer portal, publicly refuting allegations that he intended to sit out the College Football Playoff game against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
'(Expletive) I tried to sit out and throw the playoff game too?" Iamaleava wrote on his Instagram Story on Friday, posting photos from the game. "These boys just make me laugh man ain't no way.'

He piled on the sarcasm with a photo of himself and teammate Navy Shuler, joking they'd conspired to 'throw this game (real quick)'—complete with laughing emojis.
These posts come in the wake of reports that Iamaleava leveraged his participation in the playoff to negotiate a new NIL deal with the Volunteers. The messages no longer appear on Iamaleava's Instagram Story.

On3's Pete Nakos reported that discussions between Iamaleava's camp and Tennessee's NIL collective occurred prior to the Orange and White spring game. After missing practice the next day, head coach Josh Heupel confirmed the quarterback's departure, sparking speculation about his next move.
Now in the transfer portal, Iamaleava's name continues to be linked to the UCLA Bruins. According to Nakos, the deal has yet to be completed, but the smoke around the West Coast interest isn't fading.

The ongoing saga highlights the tightrope walk of NIL deals in modern college football, which many analysts have pointed out could hamper the growth of the game.
Tennessee may also need to turn to the transfer portal to find the team's next quarterback. If not, Jake Merklinger or George MacIntyre are next in line to win the starting job.

Aaron Boone's Message With Yankees Facing Giancarlo Stanton Decision

Aaron Boone's Message With Yankees Facing Giancarlo Stanton Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball, but even the top squads sometimes need help from unexpected players. That's what utility man Pablo Reyes did in Thursday's 1-0 win vs. the Kansas City Royals. Advertisement With stars like designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) and infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. (groin) ailing with injuries and outfielder Aaron Judge taking an off day, the Yankees' offense was quiet. However, Reyes got a spark going with a leadoff single to right field in the top of the eighth. Judge then pinch-hit for infielder Oswald Peraza and struck out looking, but outfielder Trent Grisham moved Reyes to second on a groundout. Infielder Paul Goldschmidt reached on an infield single to first, and Reyes scored on a throwing error by Royals pitcher Lucas Erceg. New York manager Aaron Boone opened up postgame about how the team reacted in the dugout after Reyes scored, via YES Network. Ex-NFL QB wants Dolphins to trade for rookie Browns passer

The post Ex-NFL QB wants Dolphins to trade for rookie Browns passer appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Miami Dolphins have unexpectedly entered the NFL rumor mill thanks to a bold idea floated by former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert. In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Benkert suggested the Dolphins should consider trading for Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. He cited the team's strong interest in Gabriel during the 2025 NFL Draft and implied Miami viewed him as a strong scheme fit before Cleveland selected him. Advertisement 'I wouldn't be shocked to see the #Dolphins trade for #Browns QB Dillon Gabriel at the end of preseason. They liked him a ton and saw him as an incredible scheme fit with athletic upside and were going to take him a few picks later, but then the Browns drafted him (per source). The Dolphins traded that pick away after Gabriel was no longer available' The quarterback situation in South Beach has shifted rapidly. The Dolphins drafted Quinn Ewers in the seventh round (231st overall), but their reported interest in Gabriel goes back to April. According to Benkert's suggestion, Miami had targeted Gabriel as a strong scheme fit before the Browns drafted him, and they eventually pivoted to Ewers instead. With Tua Tagovailoa's injury history, the team has to be looking at a Plan B behind their starter—one that fits their system without disruption. Meanwhile, Cleveland also selected Shedeur Sanders, adding more depth—and more uncertainty—to their own quarterback room. Unlike Sanders, who throws right-handed and may require system adjustments, Gabriel could step in without changing the structure of the playbook. Meanwhile, Zach Wilson, currently slotted as QB2, spent most of his 2024 as a backup for the Denver Broncos. A move for Gabriel could add stability to a vulnerable depth chart. From the Browns' perspective, the idea isn't entirely far-fetched. Cleveland selected the Oregon product in the third round but may face tough decisions behind an injured Deshaun Watson, who is recovering from Achilles surgery. If Gabriel underwhelms in camp, the Browns could look to flip him for value—fueling Dolphins trade rumors just weeks before the regular season. Advertisement While Benkert has limited NFL experience, he's built a large platform through his quarterback analysis and Madden content. Whether the Dolphins seriously pursue the move or not, the idea of trading for Gabriel shows how deeply Miami is evaluating every option to bolster their quarterback room. With Tagovailoa's injury history and the offense built for a lefty, the thought of pairing two southpaws might not be as far-fetched as it seems. Judge approves NCAA House settlement that includes revenue sharing

Times continue to change with what we thought we knew about college football and a big bit of that got cemented this week. After what seems like an eternity with delays and more, Judge Claudia Wilken approved the NCAA's $2.78 billion House Settlement on Friday. If you need a refresher on what that is, it all revolves around schools being able to pay players directly with revenue sharing beginning on July 1. It's not a blank check, though, schools will have the ability to pay up to 22% of the average revenue, though that's a cap and not a mandate. Advertisement Things can get rather complex with this because of Name, Image and Likeness being a part of it as well, but according to On3, in Year One, schools will be operating with an estimated $20.5 million salary cap with the bulk of that ($13 to $16 million) being allocated for football. With NIL, any deal over $600 must be approved by an NIL Clearinghouse run by Deloitte. Got that? Good, because we're still trying to figure it all out too. Come to think of it, we'll probably just focus mainly on what happens on the field. Meanwhile, the $2.78 billion approved will go to former college athletes to settle a myriad of antitrust lawsuits against the NCAA. That money will come from the NCAA's reserves and a holdback of revenue payouts over the next ten years. Details on how to distribute and who the money goes to aren't immediately available.
