Team Liquid, Onic retain core as MPL PH Season 16 looms
For its title defense, Team Liquid will once again lean on Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno as the Cavalry aims to build on the momentum from winning it all at the MSC 2025.
The multi-titled jungler will link up with gold laner Kiel "Oheb" Soriano, exp laner Sanford "Sanford" Vinuya, mid laner Alston "Sanji" Pabico, and veteran roamer Jaypee "Jaypee" Dela Cruz with head coach Rodel "Ar Sy" Cruz still calling the shots.
Boasting a strong lineup, Team Liquid is on course to achieve the coveted 'Golden Road,' claiming every major Mobile Legends: Bang Bang title within a year.
But Team Liquid isn't focused on that for now.
"For me, 'yung sa Golden Road hindi namin finofocus-an kasi gaya ng nakasanayan namin sa Season 15, step by step lang kami every single game," Ar Sy said during the media day last week in Quezon City.
"This coming MPL Season 16, same set-up pa rin kami. Mas gagalingan lang din namin and 'yung mga training namin gano'n pa rin, walang magbabago."
Meanwhile, Onic is also featuring familiar faces when it begins its redemption tour.
The reigning world champions will still be bannered by gold laner Duane "Kelra" Pillas, jungler Cyric "K1NGKONG" Prez, mid laner Frince "Super Frince" Ramirez, roamer Borris "Brusko" Parro, and exp laner Jann Kirk "Kirk" Guttierez.
Onic, though, will welcome Nowee "Ryota" Macasa as one of its sixth men together with Jaylord "Hate" Gonzales.
Onic will look to reclaim the MPL title after losing to Team Liquid in their grueling finals series back in Season 15.

Edward, Eson celebrate as Oheb finally wins MSC title after Blacklist heartbreaks
They may no longer share the same jersey, but Edward "Edward" Dapadap and Jayson "Eson" Gerardo beamed with pride as Kiel "Oheb" Soriano finally captured the MSC title that had long eluded them during their days with Blacklist International. Oheb played a crucial role for Team Liquid Philippines as the Cavalry overcame a slow start to pull off a 4-1 victory over reigning champion of Malaysia in the recently concluded Mid-Season Cup (MSC) 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. And no one was happier to see him lift the long-awaited crown than Edward and Eson, who once shared the same dream with him during their glory days with Blacklist. "Sobrang thankful kasi matagal na rin naming dream na makuha 'yung trophy ng MSC, ako 2017 pa. Talagang mailap siya. Thankful kasi tinupad talaga ni Oheb 'yung pangarap namin," Eson, now an assistant coach at Twisted Minds, told GMA News Online. "Sobrang proud kasi parang naging redemption arc na rin niya. Kakalipat pa lang niya, nag-click na agad siya sa mga teammates niya. Sobrang deserve niya." Blacklist International had two shots at the MSC title, and fell short both times. In 2021, Blacklist, fresh off winning its breakthrough MPL title in Season 7, made its MSC debut alongside fellow Philippine representative Execration. Despite a powerhouse lineup anchored by roamer Jonmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna and jungler Danerie James "Wise" Del Rosario, Blacklist's campaign ended with a 1-4 loss to Execration in the grand finals. Blacklist returned to the MSC stage in 2023, only to settle for another runner-up finish after falling to Indonesia's ONIC Esports in the finals. After that, the core members went their separate ways. OhMyV33nus and Wise left the professional scene, while the troika of Oheb, Edward, and Salic "Hadji" Imam are now playing for different MPL Philippines teams. Edward currently serves as the EXP laner of Aurora Gaming, while Hadji recently left Twisted Minds to return to his former team, Smart Omega, ahead of MPL Season 16. Still, their ties with Oheb endure—and seeing him finally hoist the MSC trophy felt like a shared victory for the players who once chased that same dream together. "Sobrang proud kami kay Oheb kasi ilang beses kaming nag-qualify sa MSC. Dalawang beses kami nag-try, dalawang beses din na second place lang. Kumbaga, 'yun na lang 'yung pinakahihintay namin talaga e kasi makukumpleto na sana namin lahat ng titles," Edward said in a separate interview. "Sobrang proud ako kay Oheb at sobrang saya ko para sa kanya, siya na 'yung tumupad ng pangarap naming lima." —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Light comes home, joins Aurora Gaming for MPL PH Season 16
Dylan "Light" Catipon is back home and set to join Aurora Gaming in its campaign in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 16 that kicks off on August 22. The veteran roamer is returning to the Philippines after wrapping up a one-season stint in Indonesia, where he reinforced Bigetron Alpha in MPL Indonesia Season 15. Prior to his move overseas, Light suited up for RSG Philippines and helped the franchise win a pair of titles in MPL Season 9 and the Mid-Season Cup in 2022. He now brings his act to Aurora to fill in the void left by fellow veteran roamer Renejay "Renejay" Barcarse, who has moved to another gaming title Honor of Kings. "'Yung thought process ng pagbalik ko kasi unang-una ayoko na sa Indonesia and inisip ko na if may option sa Philippines, iga-grab ko na. Ang hirap ng pagkain at language barrier [sa Indonesia]," Light told GMA News Online during the league's media day last Friday. "Six months din ako doon, walang uwian." At Aurora, the 22-year-old Light will reunite with his former RSG teammate Jonard "Demonkite" Caranto to complete the core of exp laner Edward "Edward" Dapadap, mid laner Kennet "Yue" Tadeo, and gold laner Jan Dominic "Domeng" Delmundo. Aniel "Master The Basics" Jiandani, who called the shots for Turkey's Aurora Gaming during the MSC 2025, is still at the helm alongside assistant coach Dexter "Dex Star" Alaba. Aurora is seeking redemption in Season 16 following two heartbreaking runs in the past two seasons---a runner-up finish in Season 14 and a lower bracket semifinals exit in Season 15. —JMB, GMA Integrated News
