An unlimited sushi festival is returning to NYC this fall—and it's been expanded to two days

Time Out3 days ago
When it comes to food and drink-related terms, there are few worlds better than "unlimited". We love unlimited beer, cheeseburgers, French fries, hot dogs, almost anything, and it's especially true when it comes to sushi. If afforded the opportunity, we could eat our weight in spicy tuna rolls.
Sushi fans will be excited to learn that this dream is about to become a reality: Sushi-Con is returning to New York City again this fall, and it's bigger and better than in years past.
Last year, with more than 1,700 attendees, the event was so popular that it only makes sense that organizers have extended it to two full days for the 2025 installment. Sushi-Con will take place on Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 at Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th St. Hosted by True World Group and Noble Fresh Cart, the event will feature global food exhibitors, sushi and other raw-fish fare from renowned chefs, and more than forty exhibitors and high-end restaurants.
The best part? Just like at previous Sushi-Cons, guests are treated to unlimited (yes, you read that right) sushi tastings of primo salmon, yellowtail, sea bream, sea urchin, bluefin tuna and more. But if "surf and turf" is your thing, you won't be left out—the event also features other Japanese foods, including Wagyu beef, as well as matcha teas, exotic fruits (crown melon, yuzu citrus) and more.
While all-you-can-eat sushi is definitely a big draw, so, too, is the event that takes place each day at 1 pm: Sushi-Con's tuna-cutting demonstration. All about precision and artistry, this crowd-pleasing event features the breathtaking knife skills of executive chefs from some of the city's top-rated sushi restaurants. The pros will break down a 400-pound-plus bluefin tuna with cuts like chu-toro, otoro, and akami for guests to enjoy.
Tickets are on sale now: options include general admission tickets for $150 and VIP tickets for $200. While general entry gets attendees unlimited sampling, a complimentary bag and special discounts from select exhibitor products, the extra $50 will get eventgoers unlimited premium tastings and on-site experiences from brands and restaurants like Maru Sushi, Blue Ribbon Group, Butter Fish, and more. The two-day event runs from noon until 5 pm.

Lego has some Wicked new Wizard of Oz sets for young and adult fans

Wicked: For Good is out in cinemas this Christmas and Lego already has a bunch of neat looking sets planned, based on the finale of Elphaba and Galinda's story. Wicked is pretty weird concept when you think about it. It's at the same time a prequel, sidequel, and sequel to the Wizard of Oz movie, from 1939. So while Elphaba and Galinda are the focus of the story, everything with Dorthy and friends is still going on at the same time. To complicate things further, last year's Wicked movie only tells the first half of the story from the original musical, so the new Lego sets this year focus on the second movie and the iconic scenes from that. Seven new sets were unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, all at varying different price points and aimed at different kinds of fans, with the cheapest being just £18 and the most expensive £140. This is going to be the big one for adult fans, because it features Emerald City from the original Wizard of Oz movie as a piece of brick-built wall art. It's basically a giant poster made of Lego, but it also comes with minifigures of Dorothy (and Toto), Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow (as Fiyero), Tin Man, Elphaba, and Galinda. What'll be of particular interest to adult fans is that they're all regular-sized minifigures, whereas most of the other Wicked sets use the larger Friends-sized minidolls. The cheapest set is Elphaba's woodland retreat, filled with her magical equipment, a number of cute furry animals, and minidolls of her and Fiyero. It even includes the poppy Fiyero gives to Elphaba, pressed inside Glinda's book. It has an age rating of 7+, so it's very easy to build, even though the organic looking tree is quite impressive. There's a neat trick here where when the model of Glinda's wedding scene is closed it's blocked by two giant butterflies, but by opening it up you can see inside and recreate the disastrous day of Glinda's wedding. To complete the scene you get a wedding cake, a heart-shaped invitation, Glinda's bouquet from Fiyero, and… a changeable face for when things go wrong. The ending of the entire Wicked saga is recreated in this set, that includes both a detailed model of Emerald City and the ominous Kiamo Ko Castle. It comes with minidolls of Glinda and Elphaba, plus a flying monkey, while the buildings are filled with secret compartments and references to the story, as well as a brick-built rainbow. Even though it's not an adult set, there's some really nice building techniques on the roof of the Munchkin house in this set. The house comes on two storeys and there's a bubble for Glinda that acts the same as in the movie, complete with a working pedal. You also get three minidolls, with Elphaba and her broomstick, Glinda in her tiara, and Boq. The other expensive set aimed at adults, these highly detailed (and entirely functional) bookends also come with minifigures instead of minidolls. You get six in total, with Glinda, Elphaba, The Wizard, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, and Pfannee – all with unique costumes and accessories. At the back of the bookends there's also an interior build that fits the minifigures, one focused on Glinda and the other on Elphaba. This might be the cheapest set but it is a cool one, with two BrickHeadz figures for Wicked's main characters. BrickHeadz is basically Lego's version of Funko Pop!, except because it's Lego you can customise them however you want. These ones come with some neat printed pieces and accessories for both characters. More Trending Although they're already available to pre-order on the Lego website, the sets won't be released until September 1. The actual movie, entitled Wicked: For Good, will launch in theatres on November 21. Got a story? Military museum plans street party to mark VJ day anniversary

A military museum hunting for a new home has unveiled plans to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day with a street party. West Lothian's military museum has seen an upsurge in visitors and wider support in the month since it was revealed that it will have to relocate from its current home in the grounds of the war-blind veterans' estate at Linburn, Wilkieston. And museum owner Ian Inglis revealed they hoped to attract more crowds. He said: 'We will be open as normal on the 15 of August, from 10am to 4pm. We will have a special exhibition on the far east campaign including a diorama of Bridge over the River Kwai, made by our resident modeller. Normal entry fees apply to the museum. 'We will also be having a street party between 11am to 4pm, and anyone is welcome to come along, there is no charge for that.' He added that tea/coffee/ juice will be supplied but people should bring along food. There is no charge, but all donations are welcome. Ian also revealed there would be a talk by best-selling author Mary Monro, who's book Stranger in My Heart tells the remarkable story of her father's escape from the Japanese occupiers of Hong Kong. Ms Monro will be at the museum on the day signing copies of the book. Ian told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: 'Mary Monro wrote about her dad's exploits in WWII. He was captured by the Japanese in Hong Kong and sent to a POW camp. 'He did manage to escape from the camp. It's a fantastic book; there will be a few copies there to purchase that will be signed by the author.' Founded by Ian, who served in the Royal Artillery, largely around his own collection of militaria the museum has become an award-winning attraction. The museum has also become a community hub for local veterans and hosts weekly breakfasts and other events to keep ex-servicemen and women connected. The museum is also staffed by ex-service volunteers. 'We're not just a museum we're more than that, we' re unique education resource. We we have the veterans' hub as well. It would be ideal if we could stay locally, we don't want to move to far away, we'd like to stay within easy access to the bridges.' Such has been the success of the museum the search has been on for a while for a new home in the area. That hunt has gathered new urgency since the charity which owns Linburn – Sight Scotland Veterans – announced their intention to sell the estate for housing development. The museum features indoors and outdoors exhibits of equipment, uniforms, vehicles, and even a First World War trench display. Somewhere nearby for a new home would be ideal as a new home, as Ian pointed out. The museum's growth in popularity draws visitors from across the UK and the world. Earlier this month an American family, rolled up from Edinburgh airport taking time out before checking into their hotel. 'We get a lot of that, and people going to the airport,' he said. 'They have a few hours to kill before their flight, so they pop in here.' By Stuart Sommerville, Local Democracy Reporter Like this: Like Related

This High Street Store Is The Make-Up Artists Best Kept Secret

Walk past a Muji store on the high street and you'd be forgiven for, well, walking straight past. It's not exactly a shop that sparks excitement. Its muted colour palette doesn't exactly beckon you in. That said, I might have to reconsider after catching up with top make-up artist Molly Grey, who's painted the faces of countless celebrities - turns out she swears by Muji as as something of an organisational mecca. Wait, what? But there's nothing remotely glamorous about Muji, I hear you cry! Well, that's where those in the know would beg to differ. While glamour might be a stretch, Muji is home to solid, well-designed beauty essentials that allow you to organise, refine, and streamline your kit. 'As a busy make-up artist, I'm always looking for tools that help me condense my kit and make my workflow simpler. I've always turned to Muji for affordable yet practical tools to add to my set-up,' says Molly. And it makes sense - Muji's philosophy is a simple one, grounded in the Japanese principles of form, function, and minimalism. 'We exist to enable a simple and beautiful life through meaningful and useful products,' they say. And that's precisely what they deliver. Expect a clever curation of containers, binders, boxes, and storage solutions that not only work hard but are created with sustainability in mind. While a Muji purchase mightn't spark excitement for the magpies among us (guilty) when it's time to think practically you just can't go wrong. Shop Molly's Muji must-haves below. 1. Plus, it's made from 100% polypropylene meaning it's incredibly light weight and durable. Make-up artist Molly Grey says: 'Hygiene is always super important to me when working - I love the PP double card case for busy times on set when working across multiple models or when on location. I can decant products for touch ups in the opening side and pop blotting papers in the back pocket. Make-up artist Molly Grey says: 'Flitting between shoots and catwalks mean I'm often in a rush - I don't want anything to get crumpled or squashed when I'm quickly cramming things into my kit. I swear by this container for keeping my cotton pads in shape. I simply pop them in and they stay fresh and protected all day. It's a little thing, but it makes a huge impact.
