Rod Stewart set for Abu Dhabi return before world tour retirement
Rod Stewart will return to Abu Dhabi for his first UAE concert in eight years. The legendary British singer, 80, will perform at the Etihad Arena on December 17. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member will perform hits from his six-decade career, including Maggie May, Forever Young, and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You. Stewart announced his retirement from major global tours in November, although he does not plan step away entirely. 'This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire. I love what I do, and I do what I love,' he said on X. The singer will also perform in the legends slot at England's Glastonbury Festival in June. His 33rd album, Swing Fever, hit number one on the UK charts in 2024. Organised by Live Nation Middle East, the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi and Miral, the concert will be Stewart's second in Abu Dhabi after his performance in 2017. The National's Saeed Saeed wrote in his review at the time: 'With Rockin' Rod, it always comes down to that voice. That winning combination of full-throttled roar and raspy whisper served him well. It allowed his five-decade career to encompass various styles ranging from pop, rock and folk to his relatively recent foray into the great American songbook.' Presale tickets will be available through Stewart's website on Thursday, April 17 at 8am, with another presale starting at noon through Live Nation Middle East, before a general sale on Friday.

Rod Stewart postpones Las Vegas show citing health issues
Singer Rod Stewart called in sick four hours before his show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. "I'm sorry to inform you that I'm not feeling well and my show tonight at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is being rescheduled to June 10," the 80-year-old rock legend said in a post to his Instagram Story. "Your tickets will be valid for the new date." The venue, Caesars, also confirmed the postponement of the show scheduled. According to Deadline, billed as The Encore Shows, the series follows 200 performances in the Grammy winner's 13-year residency after he decided he didn't want to stop playing Caesars. The current Encore run lasts through October 4. In 2023, Stewart cancelled an Australian tour date six hours before the show, citing a viral infection that irritated his throat. Last year, the singer also cancelled his concerts due to Covid-19. Ticket holders were informed to "hold on to their tickets as they will be honoured for the rescheduled shows. "Rod's illness followed the singer missing the 200th show of his long-running Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace on when he cited strep throat as the reason for his absence. At the time, he noted on Instagram, "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused." Rod is best known for singing memorable tracks such as I Don't Want To Talk About It, Downtown Train and You're In My Heart, among others.

Greta Thunberg, Guy Pearce, Susan Sarandon join activists sailing from Italy to Gaza to break Israeli siege
A ship operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition on Sunday set off from Sicily to the Gaza Strip carrying "symbolic" aid to break the Israeli siege on the Palestinian enclave, and a group including actors Guy Pearce and Liam Cunningham. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was among the 12-person crew of the Madleen, which is expected to take seven days to reach Gaza.
