Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the incident, stating the victim succumbed to severe injuries at the scene.
The victim, who had prior records under Section 377D of the Penal Code for public indecency in 2003 and 2024, was said to have committed the act at 7.26 pm before being chased and assaulted.
'The victim attempted to escape, even jumping into a river, but was caught and beaten again,' Dzulkhairi said during an event at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).
Seven men, including a Pakistani national, were arrested and remanded for seven days under Section 302 for murder.
In a separate case, a motorcyclist in his 30s was remanded for three days after assaulting a man in his 20s during a brawl near Stadthuys. The clash erupted after MBMB enforcement officers fined a group of bikers for violating the Vehicle Free Zone. 'The suspect tore up the summons, leading to a fight where the victim was struck with a helmet and wheel lock,' Dzulkhairi added.
Twenty-three individuals were arrested, with 22 released on bail. The case is being investigated under Sections 148 (rioting) and 186 (obstructing public servants). - Bernama

Agarwood trafficking syndicate busted in joint op
MELAKA: Bukit Aman's Wildlife Crime Bureau, together with multiple enforcement agencies, managed to dismantle a major illegal agarwood trafficking syndicate following two raids that netted RM106mil in seizures. Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the bust followed intelligence gathered under Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, which led to the raids on a factory in the Bukit Rambai Industrial Area and a house in Ayer Keroh here on July 31. 'In the first raid, officers discovered large quantities of suspected agarwood logs and chunks, believed to contain agarwood powder, sieving machines and oil distillation stoves at the factory,' he said at the raid site yesterday. Initial investigations revealed that the aquilaria malaccensis species is believed to have been illegally sourced from across the country, including from a golf course here. DCP Dzulkhairi revealed that among the seized items were 566 sacks of karas wood weighing 12,178kg, 277 sacks of wood powder (5,783kg), boxed karas wood (100kg), damar karas wood (2,585kg), 43.84 cubic metres of agarwood oil and 167 stumps suspected to be illegally imported. Police also confiscated equipment such as machinery and gas cylinders worth RM384,362. 'Two male foreigners, employed without valid permits, were also arrested at the site,' he said. DCP Dzulkhairi said checks revealed that the factory owner was not registered with the Forestry Department. In the second raid on the house, police detained a 55-year-old local woman. 'We are not ruling out the possibility that this case is linked to at least three incidents involving the disappearance of agarwood from forest areas near golf courses in the state. 'We suspect the syndicate was catering to both local and international markets,' he added. The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 84 of the National Forestry Act 1984, among others. Participating agencies in the operation included the Forestry Department, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Inland Revenue Board, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Malaysian Timber Industry Board, Melaka City Council and the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council.

Anti-narcotics force seizes over 102 kg of drugs, arrests 10 in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized over 102 kg of narcotics and arrested 10 suspects, including three women, during a series of operations across the country, the ANF said in a statement on Monday. The seized drugs, estimated to be worth more than 12.2 million Pakistani rupees (about 42,000 U.S. dollars), were recovered during eight coordinated operations targeting airports, courier services, vehicles, and smuggling routes. All arrested individuals have been booked under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, and further investigations were ongoing, the ANF said.

Man caught after failed snatch theft attempt in Setia Alam
SHAH ALAM: A man's attempt to snatch a necklace from a local in Setia Alam was thwarted when bystanders caught him yesterday evening. Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at 7.07 pm when the 37-year-old victim was heading to his car. The suspect, riding a motorcycle, tried to pull off the victim's necklace, but the victim fought back quickly. 'The suspect lost control and fell from his motorcycle. He tried to escape but was caught by nearby bystanders. Police later confirmed that the suspect, aged 30, owned the motorcycle but had used a fake licence plate. He is now under remand until August 7,' he said in a statement. Mohd Iqbal urged the public to remain alert and avoid being alone in isolated areas to reduce the risk of crime.
