NFL Draft results: Dallas Cowboys select ECU corner Shavon Revel at No. 76

NFL Draft results: Dallas Cowboys select ECU corner Shavon Revel at No. 76 The Dallas Cowboys ignored offense once again, selecting CB Shavon Revel in the third round.
With their third-round pick, the 76th selection overall, the Dallas Cowboys opted to ignore their offensive needs once again, this time by drafting cornerback Shavon Revel. The East Carolina product was considered one of the top CBs coming into the 2024 season, but a torn ACL cost him most of the year.
When healthy, Revel has the size, speed, and athleticism NFL teams covet in their CBs, as well as the length the Cowboys love. He has thrived in any coverage and Revel's sticky ability to cover will be a huge help for the defense.
Revel had three interceptions during his career at East Carolina, including one returned for a touchdown last season before the injury forced him out. There's no word on when Revel will be healthy, and he'll take some time to get back to NFL speed, but the Cowboys drafted a lockdown CB.
Revel's an outstanding selection and would've likely been a first-round pick if he were healthy, but in drafting him, the Cowboys ignored their obvious need for speed and play making ability on offense. Most people expected the team to draft a running back or wide receiver by the 76th pick, but the team has continued to go in a different direction.
The rookie corner will compete with second-year CB Caelen Carson for playing time and gives the Cowboys two defensive backs coming back from knee injuries, joining veteran CB Trevon Diggs.
Revel's selection was made with the future in mind and while they might not see the immediate return, the talented CB has all the makings of a Pro Bowl player.

Jalen Ramsey skipping start of Dolphins minicamp with trade talks simmering

Jalen Ramsey will not be at the Dolphins' minicamp when it opens this week as the two sides continue to search for a trade for the cornerback. The player and team mutually agreed to part ways back in April, but so far, a trade hasn't materialized and it has led to Ramsey opting not to attend mandatory minicamp this week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday. Jalen Ramsey walks onto the field prior to a game against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field on December 29, 2024 in Cleveland, The NFL insider also indicated that Ramsey would remain away from the team until the situation is resolved. A former All-Pro defender and seven-time Pro Bowler, Ramsey has spent his last two seasons with the Dolphins and appeared in all 17 games last season in South Florida. It would appear that both sides are ready to move on from each other as the organization begins to prepare for the 2025 season. Advertisement Asked about it last week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters he wasn't paying much mind to it. 'I don't really check in on a day-to-day [basis]. Zero has changed from my end. I let [general manager] Chris [Grier] work, and I'm diligently coaching,' he said. Jalen Ramsey warms up prior to a game against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field on December 29, 2024 in Cleveland, of this comes a season removed from the Dolphins signing Ramsey to a three-year, $72.3 million extension and making him the highest-paid corner in the NFL. Advertisement In order to swing any sort of deal, a team would have to be willing to take on the massive contract that includes a $16.6 million cap hit for the upcoming season. Ramsey did see a dip in his play last season when he missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016. He had 60 tackles, a sack, two interceptions and 11 passes defended. Advertisement Ramsey had been taken fifth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Jaguars and played there until he was traded to the Rams in the middle of the 2019 season. He played in Los Angeles until he was traded to Miami in the 2023 offseason.

NFL Draft expert Todd McShay likes Cade Klubnik's game, gives an NFL player comp

NFL Draft expert Todd McShay likes Cade Klubnik's game, gives an NFL player comp Former ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay had high praise for Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik this week, offering a notable NFL comparison as Klubnik prepares for his senior season. On The McShay Show, McShay said Klubnik reminds him of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, noting similarities in their feel for chaos and improvisation. 'I see a lot of Bo Nix in this kid,' McShay said. 'He's great when the play breaks down — climbing the pocket, sidestepping pressure. It's almost soothing for him. He also has that elastic arm. The ball comes out with more energy than you expect.' McShay said he underestimated Nix during his time at Auburn but came to appreciate his development at Oregon. He now sees those same traits in Klubnik — mobility, size, arm flexibility, and poise under pressure — though he made clear that the comparison was about style, not necessarily ceiling. Klubnik enters the 2025 season as a potential first-round pick and legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. In 2024, he threw for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions, while rushing for 463 yards and seven more scores. He was one of only two FBS quarterbacks to throw for over 3,500 yards and rush for more than 400. His 43 total touchdowns were second most in the country. In McShay's Way-Too-Early 2026 NFL Mock Draft, he projected Klubnik to the Cleveland Browns at No. 5 overall, calling Clemson's roster 'possibly the most talented Dabo Swinney has had in a decade.' Stephen Muench, McShay's co-host, offered a different comp: veteran NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford. 'I think both Stafford and Klubnik are very tough, very smart,' Muench said. 'He makes confident throws, gets to his third read. That's what you want to see in a next-level guy.' With both arm talent and experience, Klubnik will be a quarterback to watch closely this fall as NFL scouts continue to evaluate one of college football's most intriguing prospects. Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans in free agency after Browns exit

Nick Chubb is likely headed to a new destination. The free agent running back appears poised to continue his NFL career in Houston, according to NFL Network, who said he's expected to join the Texans on Monday pending a successful physical. Chubb, 29, was drafted in the second round by the Browns in 2018. Advertisement Nick Chubb is likely signing with the Houston Texans. Getty Images He quickly became one of the league's best running backs, posting four consecutive 1,000‑yard rushing seasons from 2019-22 with a 5.2 yard-per-carry average. For his efforts, Chubb was named to the Pro Bowl each of those four seasons and was a second-team All-Pro in 2022. Advertisement However, Chubb has suited up for just 10 games over the past two seasons, first tearing his MCL and ACL in Week 2 of 2023 and later breaking his foot in December 2024. Cleveland made it pretty clear they were moving on from Chubb after selecting running backs Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the 2025 NFL Draft in the second and fourth rounds respectively to go with returnee Jerome Ford. Nick Chubb, 29, played with the Cleveland Browns for each of the last seven seasons. Getty Images Houston's running back room, currently headlined by Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale, would get a bit more crowded if the former Pro Bowler lands there. Advertisement Mixon finished his first year with Houston, recording 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns last season on the ground. Mixon also caught 36 passes for 309 yards and scored one touchdown through the air. Marks and Ogunbowale are expected to deepen the rotation, and Pierce, once a fantasy darling, was firmly relegated to a secondary role with Mixon's signing last season. The addition of Chubb could offer Houston a formidable 1‑2 punch in the backfield.
