Robert is close to exposing killer John in Emmerdale – but a twist follows

Metro21-07-2025
Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) has had John Sugden's (Oliver Farnworth) card marked since he met him in Emmerdale.
Robert has had his suspicions ever since he gate-crashed John and Aaron's (Danny Miller) wedding. Then he began to sense something amiss over Nate's death and he is now perilously close to uncovering the truth. The last time someone came close to outing John, they ended up in a coma.
John is out to protect himself as investigations into Nate's murder get a little too close to home. He chose to frame Owen, the man who drugged Robert, telling others that Owen had confessed during a medical appointment with him.
The next thing anyone knew, Owen turned up dead with a suicide note confessing to Nate's murder.
While the village was awash with shock and John was confident that he had neatly tied things up with a bow, Robert's internal alarm system was going berserk. He arranged to meet with Owen's brother Steve who gave him a crucial bit of information – Owen had a solid alibi for the time of Nate's murder.
Robert is on to John in a big way and is going full throttle in bringing John down.
As Robert starts to scrutinise John, his next suspicion lands on the fact John has seemingly saved so many lives.
He starts to probe how John saved Jacob's life, but Jacob rushes off mid-conversation. Pollard (Chris Chittell) fills in a few blanks for him, including just how many other lives John has saved – too many to be in the right place at the right time.
Robert remains steadfast inn his mission and when he airs his opinion against John to Chas (Lucy Pargeter), he's not bothered that she won't hear a word said against him. Then the next opportunity to investigate falls into Robert's lap – John leaves his phone on the table.
Robert grabs the phone and tries to unlock it, but despite having no luck getting in, he still strikes gold – as he hands the phone back to John he implies he's seen something, and he can see John is shaken.

Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) doesn't like how Robert is behaving and urges him to seek help. He refuses, but John agrees to get Liam (Jonny McPherson) to check on him. More Trending
Knowing that Robert knows something has got John rattled, so he concocts his own plan. He sneaks into the cottage and plants a listening device to find out what Robert knows.

Where to stay in Los Angeles: The best neighborhoods to base your visit in

Bordered by Griffith Park to the north, Los Feliz is situated along a cozy, evergreen-lined hillside with its own unique charm. Back down towards the flats, the eateries and shops that run along both Hillhurst and Vermont Avenues have a more casual and comfortable feel than nearby Hollywood without as much of the increasingly-luxuriously hip vibe found in its neighbors Echo Lake and Silver Park. It's not a convenient base if you plan on regularly venturing into the Westside, but I think Los Feliz is ideal for any trip that'll primarily have you heading anywhere in Hollywood and east (and even for some near-Valley destinations like Universal Studios Hollywood or the neighboring movie studios in Toluca Lake and Burbank). Metro's B Line (Red) runs all the way to the southern edge of Los Feliz, where you can also jump onboard a DASH bus to the Observatory. Oh, and FYI: It's pronounced Los FEE-lisz. EAT The unofficial living room of the neighborhood, Little Dom's has stayed bustling for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the past two decades (swing by for its three-course Monday night suppers). Kismet is jam packed with brilliant Turkish and Mediterranean-inspired shareables and snacks—the shakshuka, broccolli toast and fantastically flakey bread and dips are all great choices. DRINK Take a seat in the idyllic twinkle-lit courtyard at Big Bar and sample from a selection of playful but unfussy perfectly concocted cocktails. Or try pre-Hispanic recipes at Mírate, which was recently named one of the best bars on the continent. DO Stop off at the bright and airy Skylight Books and search through the independent store's thoughtfully curated staff picks for some mind stretching reading material. Peruse an always different assortment of pop culture at Soap Plant Wacko and its adjoining gallery La Luz de Jesus. Then catch an early evening matinee in the Egyptian style Vista Theatre (now under the ownership of Quentin Tarantino). STAY You'll only find a couple of overnight options within Los Feliz proper, namely Hotel Covell, a five-room boutique hotel located above Bar Covell. Each room conjures a different phase in a fictional, well-heeled traveler's life—think a humble Midwestern bedroom, New York in the '50s and a Parisian love nest. (Though it's worth noting there's no pool or gym.) On the northwest side of the neighborhood, a former courtyard motel has been given a chic makeover as the Cara Hotel, perhaps best known for its dreamy patio restaurant. If you do just one thing…

British couple held in Iran over spy charges speak to family after 213 days

Craig and Lindsay Foreman, in Isfahan, before being detained by the Iranian police (Picture: AFP) A British couple have finally been allowed to speak with their family for the first time in 213 days after being charged with espionage in Iran. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, from East Sussex, were detained in January after crossing from Armenia during their global motorcycle tour. The pair deny the allegations, and their family insist they are not spies. Their son Joe Bennett, of Folkestone, in Kent, revealed he had an eight-minute call with his mother – after not having confirmation if she was even alive. He told the BBC: 'We laughed, we cried, and for a few brief moments, it felt like the weight of the past seven months lifted.' Mr Bennett said his parents were 'holding strong,' adding that they remain 'resilient, positive, and somehow, they are still smiling.' He stressed that the call had been a 'real boost' for everyone, but said it was still a 'very traumatic time'. During the phone call, it was revealed that Mr and Ms Foreman had been separated and were being held in what their son described as 'Iran's worst prisons'. The couple have now been separated in two prisons (Picture: AFP) He also told BBC Radio Kent that British officials saw his father was 'dishevelled and had lost a lot of weight'. Meanwhile, his mother is not walking well due to the conditions inside the jail. The update on their plight comes as the Iranian regime executed as many as 29 prisoners in just four days, including one woman. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises British and British-Iranian nationals, who are at significant risk of detention, not to travel to the Middle Eastern country. A spokesperson said: 'We are deeply concerned by reports that two British nationals have been charged with espionage in Iran. 'We continue to raise this case directly with the Iranian authorities. 'We are providing them with consular assistance and remain in close contact with their family members.' Iran hangs 29 prisoners in 4 days - who are they? Iran's official news agency reported on Wednesday, August 6, the executions of Roozbeh Vadi, 40; Mehdi Asgharzadeh, 35; Ali Rajaei, 33; Reza Sharifzadeh, 35; and Mojtaba Izadi, 35. The last three were executed in Isfahan. Tuesday, August 5, saw the executions of five prisoners: Ali Showkat, 34, in Saveh; Ali Hosseinpour, 35, and Mohammad Abakhti in Karaj; Farzad Yari in Malayer; and Jahanshah Iravani in Semnan. On Monday, August 4, eight prisoners were hanged: Mohammad Golestani, 30; Bahman Pirouzaei, 30; Davoud Najibollahi, 40; and Reza Sarparast, 30, in Mashhad; Matin Shahbazzadeh, 24; Hessam Moloudi, 29; and Enayat Semsari, 36, in Tabriz; and Hamid Soroush in Nur. On Sunday, August 3, 11 prisoners were executed: Meysam Joudi and Sajad Pourdanesh in Karaj; Eghbal Abdali in Ilam; Hassan Ramazani, 28, and a woman in Khorramabad; and five other prisoners whose names were announced in a previous statement.
