Panama supports India's stance, says terrorism has no place in today's world
The group, which arrived here on Tuesday, met Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino Quintero and Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Carlos Arturo Hoyos on Wednesday.
The delegation is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead.
Panama City, May 29 (PTI) Panama has supported India's stance against terrorism, saying it has no place in today's world, as an all-party Indian delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met the Central American nation's top leadership.
Taking to X, Tharoor said that the delegation had a 'constructive and productive' discussion with Quintero at his palace.
'The President graciously expressed his understanding and support for India's fight against terrorism,' he said.
The president also noted 'India's security concerns and was absolutely clear that terrorism has no place in today's world while supporting India's stand,' BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, a delegation member, said on X.
Surya said the multi-party team conveyed India's 'firm stance against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.' It also highlighted that while India is 'focused on economic development and uplifting its people, Pakistan continues its obsession with destabilising our nation through a policy of bleeding by a thousand cuts,' he said.
The delegation also met Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha, Vice-Minister Carlos Hoyos and several of their colleagues.
Tharoor said the conversation with them was 'excellent and constructive'.
'Grateful for his unequivocal support for India's stance against terrorism & for strengthening India–Panama ties across strategic & economic fronts,' said Milind Deora (Shiv Sena MP), who is also part of the delegation.
'The message from Panama Government is loud and clear: Zero Tolerance For Terrorism,' the Embassy of India in Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica said in a post on X.
On Tuesday, the team met the President (Speaker) of the National Assembly, Dana Castaneda, who extended full support to India in its fight against terrorism.
Besides Tharoor, Surya and Deora, the delegation comprises Sarfraz Ahmad (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), and former ambassador of India to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The delegation arrived here from Guyana and will travel to Columbia on Thursday, followed by visits to Brazil and the US.
India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, following which Pakistan attempted to attack the Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. No one trusts Bandi Sanjay's comments on Congress: TPCC leader
HYDERABAD TPCC official spokesperson Chanagani Dayakar has dismissed Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar's claims that Congress is behind the controversy related to BRS MLC K. Kavitha's letter to her father and party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao and termed them baseless. Speaking to the media on Saturday, he accused BJP and BRS of enacting a drama as they are hand in glove. He also alleged that the BJP led Central government is protecting the corrupt BRS party. Mr. Dayakar questioned the BJP's credibility, pointing out that the party has failed to address the people's concerns and has instead resorted to spreading false propaganda. 'People of Telangana have known about BRS and BJP's drama politics for 11 years,' he said. The TPCC spokesperson also slammed Sanjay for his comments on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, calling them shameful and baseless. 'It's unfortunate that Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay is not even aware that the phone tapping case is being investigated,' Dayakar added. He defended Indira Gandhi, saying that Bandi Sanjay doesn't have the stature to comment on the former Prime Minister. Questioning the BJP government's intentions, he asked why Prime Minister Modi didn't call an all-party meeting after Operation Sindoor ended, despite having called one before it. He also accused BJP leaders of being protective shields for the BRS party. Dayakar claimed that the BJP will not come to power in Telangana as the people are disgusted with the BJP led by central government's rule for 11 years.

Won't demolish slums, dwellers are city's lifeline: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi: Describing slum dwellers as service providers and the lifeline of Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday assured that no slum colonies in the city will be demolished without rehabilitation. She also announced that Rs 700 crore has been allocated for carrying out development works like toilets and washrooms for women in slums. In a special conversation hosted by actor Anupam Kher at the '100 Din Sewa Ke' event organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to mark 100 days of the BJP government, CM Gupta sympathised with slum dwellers in the city, saying, 'None of the previous governments really cared for them. They have been living in slums for decades.' Dismissing rumours spread by the opposition regarding slum demolitions, she said, 'Unless every slum dweller receives a permanent home, they will continue to live in their current shelter — but with improved facilities and dignity.' Criticising the previous AAP government and its false promises, CM Gupta said, 'While they sat in Sheeshmahal, we have rebuilt Delhi with honesty.' She also highlighted how the PM-JAY health insurance scheme was approved in the very first Cabinet meeting. On the health front, the CM said, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has also been implemented across hospitals, where Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being set up. Further, advanced healthcare units such as LMU, NAT testing, and a medical genetics ward have been established at Lok Nayak Hospital, ensuring high-quality care. Talking about achievements in the education sector, she said, 'While previous governments only focused on publicity, we approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation & Regulation of Fees) Bill 2025 to end the arbitrariness of private schools.' The CM also hit out at the previous AAP government for leaving behind mountains of waste, turning Delhi into a landfill. She said her government has taken concrete steps to eliminate these legacy waste sites, as 24x7 legacy waste processing has been started, with about 30,000 metric tonnes of garbage being biomined daily. 'Waste-to-energy plant installations are progressing swiftly. The target is to completely remove the Bhalaswa and Okhla landfill sites within the next two years,' she said. Currently, Delhi has four operational waste-to-energy plants, and two new plants in Narela and Ghazipur are under rapid construction. Expansions of the Okhla and Tehkhand plants are also underway. Moreover, a modern e-waste park is being developed in Holambi Kalan, she said. Talking about environmental protection, CM Gupta criticised the previous government for turning Delhi into a gas chamber. In contrast, she said, her government has prioritised pollution control by deploying 1,000 sprinklers throughout the year and approving 70 advanced mechanical road sweeping machines. 'Installation of smog guns in all high-rise buildings has also been made mandatory. Additionally, under the DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector) initiative, 460 electric buses have been introduced for last-mile connectivity, and 2,000 more electric buses will be added by the end of the year,' she said. On the Yamuna River, the CM highlighted that the previous government merely put up a show in the name of cleaning the river, while untreated sewage continued to flow into it. In contrast, her government made the rejuvenation of Yamuna a top priority from day one, she said.

‘J&K should be a bridge of friendship between India and Pakistan': Mehbooba Mufti
People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir should be a bridge of friendship between India and Pakistan and not a theatre of war. Addressing party workers in Srinagar, Mufti said Jammu and Kashmir has always borne the brunt of war and violence, according to PTI news agency. 'The PDP will continue to raise its voice for peace and channel the sentiments of people. We must end the spectre of war so that people can plan their lives and revive the economy,' Mufit was quoted as saying by PTI. 'Jammu and Kashmir should be a bridge of understanding, friendship and cooperation, not a theatre of war.' She also reacted to calls for intensified military action against Pakistan from Kashmiri leaders, saying that such statements reflect a dangerous mindset. Also Read | Counter intelligence wing of J&K Police conduct raids across Valley 'When the Indus Waters Treaty was put in abeyance by the government of India, it was (Jammu and Kashmir) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who hailed the move and even advocated for an immediate halt to water supplies to Pakistan,' she said. "We may have political differences with the government of Pakistan, but not with its people. It is saddening that such remarks are being made by the leader of the only Muslim-majority state in the country," she added, according to PTI. Also Read | J&K's development won't stop, terror will get stronger reply: Amit Shah in Poonch Mufti also warned against the "rising tide of war rhetoric" that, according to her, continues to impact the people of the region. "These leaders want more war and more dead bodies. It is, however, only the PDP that has consistently advocated for an end to hostilities and spoken for the people's right to live a life of dignity," she said. Operation Sindoor was India's direct military response to the April 22 terror strike at Pahalgam in Kashmir that killed 26 civilians in what was the worst attack on civilians since the 26/11 Mumbai strikes. India launched the operation in the early hours of May 7, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The pre-dawn strikes – which killed at least 100 terrorists – sparked a series of attacks and counter attacks across the western border, involving fighter jets, missiles, armed drones, and fierce artillery and rocket duels. In one such counterattack on the night of May 9-10, the air force struck targets at 13 Pakistani air bases and military installations. After four days of fighting, military hostilities were stopped on May 10 as the two nations reached an understanding.
