Exclusive - Father's Day 2025: Rahul Vaidya reflects on fatherhood and childhood memories; says 'Becoming a dad changed everything'
Singer Rahul Vaidya, known for his soulful voice and grounded personality, shared his heartfelt thoughts on Father's Day this year — but with a twist. Now that he has stepped into the role of a father himself, the meaning of the day has changed for him entirely. In an exclusive chat, he reflects on his own childhood memories, the values he's imbibed from his father, and how fatherhood has reshaped his perspective. Rahul believes that Father's Day was always meaningful, but the arrival of his little one has added new emotional depth. 'Father's Day was always special for me, but now that I am a father, it's become even more special to me, and I have kind of realised the importance of this day, even more than what it used to be for me,' he shares. Recalling his early years, Rahul opens up about one particularly fond memory. 'A father somehow in our society is not celebrated as much as Mother's Day, but every time my father used to take me out for badminton when I was very small — and then he would get me a soft drink after the session — that memory is very, very special for me,' he smiles. Rahul sees his father not just as a parent but as an example of how to live with humility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'Most people around me say my dad is a very good human being. He's humble, straightforward, minds his own business, and remains happy in his own world. These are qualities I've really tried to learn and follow,' he shares. Like many in Indian households, Rahul experienced the quiet, reserved kind of love fathers often express. 'Till date, my father has never told me 'Well done beta, I'm proud of you.' In our culture, sometimes there's a respectful distance between fathers and children. But I know in my heart that he is very proud. In fact, I always say — the day I started earning at 17, he retired in his mind.' Becoming a dad has brought a shift in how Rahul views life. 'Even though I am a father, because my toddler is still so young, I haven't gotten that big 'Happy Father's Day' moment yet. But I feel very cute about it. It's a beautiful thought. I feel more responsible, and I look forward to every year – not just Father's Day, but fatherhood itself. It's very, very exciting.' Rahul Vaidya's take on fatherhood is deeply personal and honest — a tribute to his own father and a gentle glimpse into the father he's becoming. Aamir also shared the reasoning behind the names of his children — Ira Khan, Junaid Khan, and Azad Rao Khan — which are often perceived as Islamic. He clarified that it was his wives who chose the names. Reena, for instance, selected the names Junaid and Ira. 'Let me tell you, Ira is another name for (goddess) Saraswati. Have you heard of Irawati? It's just that Reena wanted to pronounce it differently,' he added. He further explained that the name was inspired by The Penguin Book of Hindu Names by Maneka Gandhi. Azad's name, he said, was chosen by Kiran Rao as a tribute to the freedom fighter and former Education Minister Maulana Azad. 'Azad isn't a Muslim name. Haven't you heard of Chandrashekhar Azad? He was also a freedom fighter. It's a neutral name,' he clarified. 'I'm very proud I'm a Muslim. I'm also proud I'm a Hindustani. Both of these statements are true,' he emphasised. Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 15 (ANI): On Father's Day, filmmaker Karan Johar posted a deeply emotional social media post honouring the memory of his late father, Yash Johar. Accompanying a nostalgic black-and-white photograph of the two, which seems to have been taken on a film set, Karan shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the values and legacy passed down to him by his father. "He made films with soul and for the soul... and he lived life with even more," Karan wrote, adding, "He taught me that good storytelling begins with you... and your good heart. Thank you for giving me the courage to feel deeply. Thank you for giving me the courage to show these feelings on the biggest screens possible. Happy Father's Day papa, thank you... for you." Choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan responded with a simple but powerful "Love him," while Maheep Kapoor expressed her affection through heart emojis, reflecting the widespread admiration Yash Johar continues to command within the film fraternity. Yash Johar, the founder of Dharma Productions, passed away in June 2004 after battling cancer, but his influence endures through Karan Johar's celebrated body of work, which includes iconic films such as 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'My Name Is Khan', and, more recently, 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. Karan Johar became a father to Yash and Roohi in February 2017 via surrogacy. He named his son Yash after his late father, a renowned filmmaker, and chose the name Roohi as an anagram of his mother's name, Hiroo. (ANI)
