EXCLUSIVE Twist in death of Marianne Faithfull as records show pop icon and Rolling Stones muse died without a will and left tiny estate to her family
Faithfull who died aged 78 on January 30 this year became the ultimate rock chick, inspiring Stones songs such as Wild Horses and You Can't Always Get What You Want.
She also had flings with two other Stones – Keith Richards and Brian Jones – as well as David Bowie, but she resisted the advances of Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.
Her life spiralled out of control due to heroin addiction and homelessness in the early 1970s before she resurrected her career with a string of new albums including Broken English in 1979.
Probate records revealed today that Faithfull who was married and divorced three times died intestate without leaving a will.
Under intestacy rules, her entire estate of £43,000, reduced to a net figure of £35,000 after deduction of liabilities, will be inherited by her only son Nicholas Dunbar.
Faithfull died after years of suffering multiple health problems, including bulimia, breast cancer and emphysema caused by decades of smoking.
She was hospitalised for 22 days when she contracted Covid-19 in 2020 and was not expected to survive, but she pulled through, releasing her 21st album, She Walks in Beauty, a year later.
Faithfull's grant of probate revealed she was living at the time of her death in the Denville Hall care home for members of the theatrical profession in Northwood, north west London. She reportedly moved into care in 2022.
The singer was born in Hampstead, north London, on December 29, 1946, little more than a year after the Second World War.
Her mother Eva was a Hungarian, half-Jewish baroness and former ballet dancer who had fled the Nazis, while her father Major Robert Glynn Faithfull was a colourful character who had been a MI6 agent before becoming a professor of Italian literature.
It was often suggested that Faithfull's free spirit came from her childhood at a country house called Braziers Park, in Oxfordshire, which her father turned into a commune where promiscuity reigned.
Her mother later moved with her to a terraced house in Reading and sent her to a Roman Catholic boarding school.
It was during this time that she started pursuing a singing career, performing in coffee bars in Reading.
Her big break came in 1964 when she was just 17 and attended a Rolling Stones party where she was spotted by the band's producer Andrew Loog Oldham who helped her to release her haunting debut single As Tears Go By in the same year.
The wistful ballad had been written by Jagger and his songwriting partner Keith Richards, but Oldham gave it to her because he did not think it was suitable for the Stones.
Faithfull went on to release a string of captivating singles including Come Stay With Me, This Little Bird, Summer Nights and a cover of The Beatles' Yesterday.
Despite having turned down Bob Dylan when he came to London in 1965, she began a high-profile four-year relationship with Jagger in 1966.
One of the Rolling Stones' most famous songs, Sympathy For The Devil, was inspired by a Russian novel called The Master And Margarita, introduced to Jagger by Faithfull.
As a couple, they epitomised the Swinging Sixties and attracted huge interest in the media, including lurid headlines.
Faithfull was aged just 20 when police found her wearing nothing but a fur rug during a drugs bust at Richards' luxury Sussex home Redlands in 1967.
The raid prompted a less than salubrious rumour that Jagger had been performing a sex act on Faithfull at the time, involving a Mars bar.
Faithfull always insisted that the story had been made up, describing it in her autobiography as 'a dirty old man's fantasy'.
Her popularity was enhanced by acting roles which starring in the Chekov play Three Sisters alongside Glenda Jackson at London's Royal Court in 1967
Faithfull was credited with being the first person to say 'f***' in a mainstream film, when she appeared in the 1967 film I'll Never Forget What's'isname.
Her most famous screen role was in the lead tole of the 1968 film The Girl On A Motorcycle in 1968, which was noted for being America's first X-rated film.
But drugs took a toll on her and her relationship with Jagger disintegrated as her pop career hit the buffers.
Her decline was documented in the Stones' song Sister Morphine which she co-wrote with Jagger and Richards for the band's 1971 album Sticky Fingers.
Faithfull lost custody of her son and went into a coma after a suicide attempt as she remained in the grip of heroin addiction which led to her being effectively homeless and living for two years in a squat in Soho.
But her fighting spirit helped her make a musical comeback in 1979 with her album Broken English, and its signature song The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan.
Her years of hard living, as well as severe laryngitis and drug abuse had left her voice sounding raspy, cracked and lower in pitch.
Critics described her tone as 'whisky soaked', and helping to capture the raw emotions expressed in her music, drawing on jazz and blues in particular.
Her other albums included Dangerous Acquaintances in 1981, which ended with the searing song Truth, Bitter Truth.

She also played God in two episodes of the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, and the devil in William Burroughs' and Tom Waits' musical, The Black Rider.
Faithfull's final album She Walks In Beauty in 2021 featured her reciting the works of British romantic poets to music arranged by Warren Ellis, Brian Eno, Nick Cave and Vincent Segal.
She received the World Lifetime Achievement Award at the Women's World Awards in 2009, and was also made a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the government of France.
Faithfull was first married briefly to artist John Dunbar in 1965, then Ben Brierly of punk band the Vibrators from 1979 to 1986, and actor Giorgio Della Terza from 1988 to 1991
Jagger paid tribute to her after her death, describing her as 'a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress', and saying he was 'so saddened' by her loss.
Richards also posted that he was 'so sad' following her death while Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood posted pictures on Instagram of himself with her, along with captions saying: 'Farewell dear Marianne', and 'Marianne will be dearly missed. Bless her xx'.
Faithfull's long-time friend, the BBC Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris, called her an 'encapsulation of the sixties'.
He said that 'people began to see her as an artist, as a creator', although she was initially known as Jagger's girlfriend.

James Haskell makes rare red carpet appearance with daughter Bodhi
James Haskell was snapped spending quality time with his three-year-old daughter Bodie just weeks after confessing what he thinks ended his marriage to her mum Chloe Madeley James Haskell has made a rare red carpet appearance with his daughter Bodhi when they attended the Grand Prix Of Europe UK Gala screening. The former rugby union star stepped out with the three-year-old, whohe shares with ex Chloe Madeley - to the event at the Ham Yard Hotel in London. James, 40, looked happy as he beamed in the images alongside Bodhi while carrying her in his arms. James and Chloe, 38, separated in 2023 after five years of marriage. Bodhi - the grandchild of Chloe's famous parents Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan - was just one-year-old when the pair went their separate ways. READ MORE: James Haskell says he'd still be married to Chloe Madeley if he'd stopped doing one thing James' stepping out with Bodhi comes after he confessed that his drinking habits contributed to the end of their marriage. Speaking at the Pub in the Park festival in West London he said, "If I put more time into my marriage than I did Guinness, then I wouldn't be divorced now." He continued to the Daily Mail,"It's one of those things in life where some things don't work out, but I have so much love for my daughter and Chloe. It's team work. What we all forget is when you have children and a marriage finishes, it's all about the kids. Chloe and I are amazing co-parents. Our priority is always Bodhi." James also confirmed that he is now single again after briefly dating advertising executive Helen Barclay at the start of the year. He said, "I don't really date. My priority is not that at the moment. I don't need anyone. I'm very happy and comfortable. My focus is, obviously, saying goodbye to my dad, work, and being the best dad in the best order." James now works as a DJ playing global venues and has previously opened up about how he achieved his visibly slimmed down figure following his change of career. During his stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! he discussed how his new regime was having an impact on his appearance. He was thought to have lost around 10kg appearing on the show due to the gruelling challenges and restricted eating that contestants have to deal with. He shared pictures of his chiseled abs and biceps to Instagram to show off the difference. James also attributed a 9kg drop in his weight to lifestyle changes during one of the final Covid-19 lockdowns in the UK. Taking to Instagram to share a comparison pictures of his changing body he wrote, "I got bored in lockdown 2 and saw how big I could get. 130kgs. Lockdown 3 I have gone the other way. I'm 8 weeks in and have gone from 122kgs to 113kgs. I've been training remotely with @altius_pt. Which has been mega, well thought out and programmed exactly. The idea is to get leaner now and then build back up slowly over the coming week. "It's been really fun to have a goal and stick to it. It gives you purpose, routine and discipline. All things we strive on as humans."

BBC iPlayer now streaming ‘mind-blowing' Christopher Nolan film
The Christopher Nolan film Tenet is streaming now on BBC iPlayer. The 2020 action film aired on BBC One last week, meaning that it is also available on the streaming service for a limited time. Starring John David Washington as a man known only as 'The Protagonist,' the film follows a CIA Agent when he joins a secret organisation – Tenet – who hope to prevent World War III by mastering 'time inversion.' Tenet was released during the Covid-19 pandemic, and achieved fifth highest earning film of the year, in spite of safety limitations at the time. The most cerebral of Interstellar and Oppenheimer director Nolan's films, it has garnered a reputation for its uncompromising storytelling and near impenetrable lore. With the film now available for free on iPlayer, viewers can see for themselves. Tenet currently has a 70% 'fresh' rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers praising its complex narrative and bold ideas. Nola Ojumu described it as a 'mind-bending wonder' and 'fast-paced action thriller,' while praising the performances of Washington and co-stars Robert Pattinson, Sir Kenneth Branagh, and Elizabeth Debicki. Meanwhile, USA Today called it 'utterly dazzling and increasingly bewildering,' as The Independent described it as 'a thrilling place to get lost in.' 'The real joy of the film, nonetheless, is the sheer spectacle,' wrote The Times. Tenet's blend of sci-fi smarts and spy action resonated with viewers too, who have contributed to its 76% Popcornmeter score on the website. 'This movie is a mind bending collision of time inversion and nuclear war, Christopher Nolan completely unravels the fabric of linear storytelling and reweaves it into a well written cinematic masterpiece,' wrote user Landon B. Seth A said: 'Amazing visuals, amazing story. Truly captivating and a movie easily watchable over and over to see more and more revealing clues.' Of its plot, Zach W described it as: 'one of the most ambitious storylines ever attempted in a film,' while Imran Haque called it 'a mind-blowing movie.' However, with its often confusing storytelling and refusal to keep things linear, Tenet is the most divisive of Nolan's films to date. In addition to the confusing story, some detractors have bashed the film for its 'migrane-inducing' sound-mixing, making its dialogue inaudible behind layers of metallic screeching, seat-shaking explosions and relentless gunfire. It's a complaint often levelled at Nolan's films – especially his recent works, such as Dunkirk and Interstellar – and out in full force here. But, to many, the Christopher Nolan of it all is a feature, not a bug. 'It's the most Nolan movie ever and I'm not sure it makes since but I was enthralled nonetheless,' wrote Mad About Movies Podcast. If some viewers struggled to understand what is going on, then worry not – its leading man wasn't entirely sure either. More Trending 'I mean, literally on the first read, I thought I understood it, strangely,' he told GQ Hype. 'In my delirium, I thought I totally had, and I realised as the day went on, 'Ah, I don't have it at all.'' He added: 'But to answer your question directly, I'm still kind of grasping it…' Tenet is streaming now on BBC iPlayer. Got a story? In The Mud – Season 1 Episode 5 Recap & Review
Episode 5 Episode 5 of In The Mud starts with a flashback from five years ago, with Cecilia trying to calm a protest where Maria and Zurda are on the same team. The two women put up a fight against Cecilia, asking her to allow visitors inside the prison despite the COVID pandemic. Cecilia agrees to let some of the inmates have their cell-phones and while Maria asks Zurda to take responsibility for the phones, the protest ends. The episode moves to the present day as the police investigate the new inmate who died in the greenhouse. Cecilia tries to conceal the issue by claiming that the inmate died while trying to escape the prison. Meanwhile, Amparo is furious that Zarda was not able to protect her, upset that she had to protect herself. She threatens Zarda, which makes the latter promise to make the guilty person pay. Zarda tells Victoria that she is sure Maria was after this. At lunch, Marina joins the five, but Gladys leaves the table. Soledad, Yael and Olga wonder what's happened, and Marina explains that Gladys is mad at her. Olga starts to doubt Marina, too, when Maria is asked to meet Cecilia. Maria neither accepts nor denies responsibility for the inmate's death and asks Cecilia about Patricia and her baby to throw her off her back. Meanwhile, Yael tells Gladys that her daughter is being sent out of the prison for a short outing with the governor's wife. Gladys wonders why Cecilia is always nice to the pregnant women and wonders what is going on. Amparo gets furious when she learns that Maria has a monopoly on the meat that arrives inside the prison. Coco introduces Lana to Cleo, who promises to help reunite her with her son. Marina also talks to Lana, and during their conversation, she reveals how toxic her relationship with Martin was. She goes on to reveal how Martin was a jealous person but shared everything with his brother Dario, including her. Coco and Lana are shocked to hear this and promise to help Marina. Amparo notices the family unit and sees little children there. Elba tells Amparo how all the kids leave after they turn five years old, while the mothers stay back to complete their respective sentences. Elsewhere, Marina is thriving in prison as an adult content creator. She has all the privileges she needs while working out, taking videos and photos, eating the meals that she wants and consuming the drugs that she likes. All of this is at the behest of Zurda, who profits out of her work. China watches Marina from the side-lines when one day Zurda tells Marina that one of the men wants to have sex with her. Marina refuses, but Zurda puts her in place, declaring that she needs to entertain the client. Gladys shows up at Zurda's unit to collect the money according to her deal with Maria. The two women talk about Amparo, and Zurda threatens Gladys, asking her to keep away from Amparo. Marina is asked to go meet the client, but she asks Alan to come with her. Alan refuses, which upsets her. Gladys gives Maria the payment she had collected from the different units while Rocky gives her a massage. Maria reveals to Gladys how both her minions, Rocky and Cachete, were serving time for killing rapists. She asks Gladys to be prepared for any attack from Zurda and Amparo in the days to come. Maria gives Gladys a weapon from her collection to protect herself. That night, Amparo dreams of Cuervo but ends up suffering from a miscarriage in her sleep. Cecilia meets Amparo in the infirmary and consoles her, but the latter is shattered after losing the love of her life and his child, too. The next day, Andrés' wife shows up to pick Brisa up for a day out. At the same time, Marina's mother, Paula, comes to visit her. She asks Paula about her money. Marina is shocked to learn that Paula had spent all her money on her boyfriend. There is a cancer drive at the prison, and it is discovered that Gladys may have some growth in her breast. Gladys panics upon hearing the news but tries to keep calm. Meanwhile, Dr Soriano tells Vanessa that she is pregnant and asks her to keep the details of her pregnancy a secret. Marina learns that Alan was married and gets upset. She agrees to have sex with the client. Marina is disappointed when she is not able to climax during the intercourse, remembering her time with Alan. Yael, on the other hand, grows restless when Brisa does not come back that evening. She tries to visit Cecilia but is asked to go back. Just then, Eugenia shows up with Brisa. Yael takes her daughter back inside the prison. Meanwhile, the meat is delivered, and Maria goes to collect the best cuts for herself while Cachete and Rocky accompany her. Rocky leaves to collect Maria's medicine, leaving her behind with Cachete, who invites Amparo and the twins inside. The attack Maria while Gladys cries in the shower, worried about her diagnosis. Yael finds out about the diagnosis and tries to console Gladys. The two end up sharing a kiss while the twins kill Maria and hang her up on a meat hook. The Episode Review So, Zurda and Maria were friends before all this? No wonder Cecilia tried to cause differences between them; both of them were too much for her to handle as a team. It seems that Marina had a poor excuse for parents and had to work hard throughout her life. Even from prison, Marina is earning an income by selling her body on the internet, which makes me feel sorry for her. It's hard to see Gladys find out about her possible cancer diagnosis, but I am glad she has Yael in her journey. Given the fact that she has had a hard time coping with the loss of her husband, I hope Gladys continues to keep the bond that she has with the other four inmates. It was sad to see Maria die, but Amparo is a bigger threat to everyone inside now. I really wish she hadn't been caught because things would have been so different inside the prison. Gladys would be the best replacement for Maria now that she is dead but I am not sure how open she would be to stepping into her shoes, given the diagnosis.
