Head-on crash kills one
Joshua Logan Hoffman, 27, of Fort Worth died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained when his motorcycle collided head-on with a pickup, DPS officials said in a media release that evening.
About 12:55 p.m. Saturday, Hoffman was driving a 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on FM Road 209 about 1.5 miles east of Murray, DPS officials said.
Murray is about 20 miles west of Graham.
The motorcycle driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the bike to go into the southbound lane and strike a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado head-on, officials said. Murray was pronounced dead on the scene, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Two people in the pickup were injured in the collision, DPS officials said. The pickup driver, Alex Dean Cortez, 34, and a passenger, Shalynn Deann Cortez, 31, suffered non-incapacitating injuries and were transported to Graham Regional Medical Center. Both are from Saginaw.
Alex and Shaylnn Cortez were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, officials said. Hoffman was not wearing a helmet.

Gateway Church cutting services amid decreased attendance and challenges with founder Robert Morris
Gateway Church will eliminate Saturday services at most of its campuses as it continues to navigate its future after founder Robert Morris' resignation amid a child sex abuse investigation, according to information and documents obtained by CBS News Texas. On Tuesday, CBS News Texas learned that Gateway had begun telling volunteers it will start eliminating the Saturday services at the end of the month. In an email obtained by CBS News Texas, the Southlake-based megachurch said the change comes in part due to decreased attendance and the desire to consolidate Sunday services. The church is also dealing with a drop in donations after Morris' resignation. CBS News Texas has reached out to the church for a statement but has not yet received one. Gateway Church announces staff layoffs Gateway previously said it would lay off some staff, which could begin later this month. In a letter to the congregation, Gateway elders said tithing "has not mirrored attendance" due to the issues with Morris. The letter assured members that despite the challenges, the church maintains strong financial and accounting records. But after church leadership evaluated the situation, they determined "restructuring of our staff is necessary, requiring the tough but necessary step of staff reduction." Sexual abuse allegations against Morris In March 2025, Oklahoma prosecutors charged Morris with five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child stemming from the allegations made by the victim, Clemishire. Morris has since pleaded not guilty. Clemishire claims Morris abused her from the age of 12 to 17. Morris was a traveling evangelist in his 20s and had become close to Clemishire's family. When the story broke, Gateway church elders said Morris disclosed to them he'd had an extramarital affair, but not that he had allegedly abused a young girl. Morris and the church had also said that Morris underwent "a two-year restoration process" that included him "stepping out of the ministry during that period." On June 12, Clemishire and her father filed a lawsuit against Morris, his wife and several current and former Gateway leaders, alleging that they knew about Morris' deceit. "For almost 40 years, Robert Morris and the leadership at Gateway have tried to blame me and put this in a flippant light of a relationship instead of what it was-a brutal crime against a 12-year-old child," said Clemishire. "My childhood and the woman I would have become died that day in 1982. The person who abused me and the people who blatantly covered it up deserve to be held accountable. My hope is that bringing awareness to my case will help other victims and survivors feel hope, because the person who did this to me-and the people who enabled him and covered it up for decades-are being held accountable." Legal battle between Gateway and Morris Legal documents filed in May revealed that 63-year-old Morris is demanding millions of dollars in payment and retirement benefits from the church following his 2024 resignation. He stepped away after allegations resurfaced that he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl, identified as Cindy Clemishire, in the 1980s. Church lawyers wrote in the court filing that "amid the chaos of his conduct had unleashed upon Gateway and his community, Morris was laser-focused on securing his financial future." In September 2024, Morris' attorney sent a letter to Gateway that included a demand of more than $1 million that had accrued in Morris's retirement account, and claimed that the elders verbally promised him a retirement benefit of $800,000 per year until he turned 70. However, according to a retirement compensation agreement included in the court filing, the church would pay Morris $170,000 per year for 20 years.

Federal investigators eye driver fatigue in deadly 18 wheeler crash on I-20 tied to Florida-based carrier
Federal investigators are examining the role driver fatigue may have played in a deadly I-20 crash near Terrell over the weekend involving a Florida-based truck driver and his employer, Hope Trans LLC. The National Transportation Safety Board, in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety, has opened a safety investigation into the crash that killed five people on Interstate 20 in Terrell, Texas. The driver, identified as Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, 27, is from Florida and works for Hope Trans LLC, a trucking company with a listed address in the Orlando area, according to USDOT records. Records show the company had a previously listed address of Tacoma, Washington. Federal transportation records show Hope Trans LLC has been in operation since 2021. The company currently operates 65 trucks and employs 80 drivers. It is listed as being in compliance with federal safety regulations. In the past 24 months, Hope Trans LLC has been involved in three crashes resulting in injuries, though none were fatal until this weekend's incident. In terms of driver compliance, based on federal inspection in the past 24 months, the company's record is slightly better than the national average. Five percent of Hope Trans LLC drivers were found "out of service" during a federal inspection, compared to the national average of 6.7%. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website shows no "acute/critical" violations for hours-of-service compliance or driver fitness. Federal rules limit commercial truck drivers to a 12-hour driving limit after 8 consecutive hours off-duty, as well as a 70-hour weekly limit over 7 consecutive days. As the NTSB continues its investigation, questions remain about what could have been done to prevent the crash—and whether warning signs were missed.

Girl who fell off Disney cruise ship "was not sitting on the ledge," BSO says
The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 5-year-old girl fell overboard from a Disney Dream cruise ship over the weekend, prompting her father to jump into the ocean after her. BSO told CBS News Miami that the girl "was not sitting on the ledge or being held up over it," and that detectives are continuing to investigate exactly what happened. Passenger saw something "fly by" on the ship Monica Shannon, a passenger on board, said she was on Deck 3 with her family waiting to meet Disney princesses when she saw something unexpected. "I kind of see something really fast flew by, I didn't think anything of it," Shannon said. "I just figured it was maybe a part of the show or just the experience, but about five minutes later we heard that someone flew overboard," she said. She later learned it was a 5-year-old girl who had fallen, followed by her father jumping overboard from Deck 4 of the ship on Sunday, while it was on its way back to Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas. Shannon noted that Deck 4 is less crowded than the other decks and contains the ship's shuffleboard courts. She also described the railing setup, noting it does have a protective barrier. "There are little divots and spaces that make it so that you can climb, but the glass kind of protects that from happening, but she was able to climb up," Shannon said. Crew member reportedly witnessed the fall Shannon said she later spoke to a crew member who told her they saw the entire incident unfold. "The crew member who said that's her station and she was on the fourth floor, she did say that she was climbing up and the parents were playing shuffleboard and the dad jumped in after her," Shannon said. Maritime attorney calls father a hero Nicholas Gerson, an attorney with Gerson & Schwartz who specializes in maritime injuries and cruise ship accidents, said the father's actions likely saved his daughter's life. "Most of these cases that you hear about end in tragedy. In this particular situation, the father's a hero," Gerson said. He noted this incident was unusual because it occurred during the day, with witnesses nearby and an immediate response from the father and the ship's crew. "Most of the man overboard cases, it's too late. There aren't any witnesses; they often happen at nighttime, and because the ships are moving at approximately 20 knots, by the time anyone figures out that someone has gone overboard, it's generally too late," Gerson said. Disney ships equipped with required detection systems Gerson said the ship's response likely benefited from safety systems required under federal law. "It's a kind of infrared technology; it uses heating and sensors to determine when someone goes over. Alerts go off, so it acts as kind of an alarm system," he said. The Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act of 2010 requires cruise lines to have man-overboard detection technology. According to 2019 data from the Cruise Lines International Association, there is an average of 25 overboard incidents worldwide each year. BSO: "This family is so blessed" The Broward Sheriff's Office released the following statement on the incident: "Based on media reports I have read, the Disney crew was well prepared. Clearly, their training and readiness paid off because they executed a successful ocean rescue. While there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious, Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child falling overboard. This family is so blessed. It's great to be able to respond to good news rather than what could have been a tragic outcome. The incident involved a father and his 5-year-old daughter." "We are so thankful she is okay" Shannon said she and other passengers were relieved the story had a positive ending. "We are so thankful that she is okay and that her dad was able to rescue her," she said.
