Park rangers and emergency crews began a search early on Sunday morning, July 14. At around 3 p.m. that afternoon, friends and family found Hall's body below Sawtooth Peak. The cause of death has not been shared by officials.
'This has been a challenging year for our search and rescue teams,' said Chief Ranger David Fox. 'Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the hiker.' He also urged all visitors to stay alert while hiking in remote areas of national parks.
According to the National Park Service release, this is the fifth fatality in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in 2025. Rangers have responded to 60 search and rescue calls so far this year. Five of those took place over the weekend of July 13 and 14.
The area where Hall was found is known to be dangerous. A report from the law firm Panish Shea and Ravipudi last year said Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks had 30 deaths for every 10 million visitors between 2007 and 2024. The parks were ranked the 13th most dangerous in the United States.

Shaolin Temple head faces probe for 'embezzling funds'
BEIJING: China's famous Shaolin Temple announced Sunday that its abbot is under investigation on suspicion of misappropriation and embezzlement of project funds and temple assets. Shi Yongxin was also alleged to have committed criminal offences and seriously violated the Buddhist precepts by maintaining relationships with multiple women over a long period and fathering at least one child, according to a notice from the temple's authority on its WeChat account. The notice said multiple departments were conducting a joint investigation against him, and relevant findings would be announced to the public in due course. The fame of Henan-based Shaolin Temple has gone beyond a religious institution. It is also famous for its martial arts culture, or kung fu, which has been referenced in many movies and TV dramas, including the 1982 film "The Shaolin Temple." The news about Shi Yongxin ranked top on search engine Baidu and social media platform Weibo Sunday night. Local media reported the abbot had been hit by scandalous accusations in the past, including claims that he fathered several children and embezzled money. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Chernihiv: Unsold Sofas May Be at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo According to a news outlet, investigation reports exonerated him of all charges in 2016. Great Capital Divide: Where Delhi's Roads Save Lives — And Take Them
New Delhi: Delhi's road safety map resembles a patchwork — stretches of visible progress stitched alongside pockets of persisting peril. The first half of 2025 brings both relief and unease as the city's safety gains remain uneven as some districts have remained unchanged. Between Jan and June this year, the capital recorded 677 fatal road accidents, a dip from 764 in the same period in 2024. Road deaths also dropped by nearly 10%, from 778 to 700. At first glance, these figures suggest the city is moving in the right direction. Yet, the gains are not spread evenly across its districts. You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi In central Delhi, the change is tangible. A typical evening near Red Fort or ISBT Kashmiri Gate still buzzes with office-goers, tourists and roadside vendors. However, fatal crashes in the district dropped from 38 to 17, and deaths more than halved, from 39 to 17. Officials credit stricter enforcement and physical road changes, like grill installations. "In areas near Chandni Chowk, which once saw fatal accidents between pedestrians and vehicles, the installation of grills and U-turn barriers has worked wonders. Fatalities near one hotspot dropped from 11 to 3," said a senior traffic officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Interestingly, central Delhi overtook the New Delhi district as the least fatal zone in 2025. New Delhi district, surrounded by VIP areas like Kartavya Path and Chanakyapuri, remains among the safer zones. Fatal accidents and fatalities have dropped from 20 to 19. It is second only to central Delhi. While the core of Delhi has become safer, its edges are fraught with danger, as earlier. Outer North, stretching across Narela, Bawana and Alipur continues to be Delhi's deadliest zone. Fatal accidents here rose from 93 to 97, and deaths from 95 to 103, when the total number of crashes dropped from 313 to 263. Like 2024, it tops the charts this time too. Sources said it is a place that sees a lot of high-speed trucks. A single misstep can be catastrophic. The data bears this out. Around 36% of total crashes in the district are fatal. "It is also because people do not follow road ethics in most of these places," sources said, adding, "North district, too, struggles with similar challenges. It has seen 61 fatal crashes this year." The rest of Delhi sits between these extremes. South West district, covering Vasant Vihar, IGI Airport and Kapashera, is second on the list with 73 fatalities, down from 80 last year. West Delhi, with busy corridors like Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh, saw a dip from 69 deaths last year to 64 now, but still ranks high on the chart. Traffic officials blame a mix of signal-jumping, illegal turns and poor lane discipline for the persistently high numbers. Some districts, however, show promising trends. Dwarka cut fatal crashes from 50 to 39 and deaths from 51 to 41, aided by its CCTV network and wide, well-monitored roads. North West district, covering parts of Rohini and Pitampura, saw fatalities drop from 63 to 45. East Delhi — from Mayur Vihar to Akshardham crossings — recorded a decline in deaths from 43 to 33. Even Rohini, with its high commuter density, managed to reduce fatalities from 40 to 32. Yet, trouble lingers on the city's borders. The outer districts, covering Nangloi and Tikri, saw fatal crashes and deaths climb from 45 to 51, despite fewer total crashes (from 180 to 164). The South district, home to the winding Mehrauli-Badarpur stretch and areas like Saket and Sangam Vihar, saw fatalities inch up from 33 to 35. Adding complexity to the count is the rise in injuries. Even as fatal accidents and deaths dropped, injuries went up from 2,566 last year to 2,617 this year. Experts point to the growing number of vulnerable road users — delivery riders, two-wheelers, pedestrians — who survive crashes but with severe injuries. The numbers tell a story of cautious progress. Central Delhi's turnaround proves that redesigned central verges or other road engineering methods can save lives. However, the deadlier stretches of Outer North, South West, and Outer districts — where heavy trucks rule and infrastructure lags — remain glaring weak spots.

BJD corporator held for raping minor in '23; suspended from party
Bhubaneswar: BJD corporator Amaresh Jena (49), who was evading arrest after a girl recently lodged a case against him for alleged rape in 2023, when she was a minor, was arrested on Sunday. An embarrassed BJD, which had been criticising the BJP govt over an alleged rise in crimes against women, suspended the Bhubaneswar corporator from the party. "We traced Jena to one of his acquaintance's residence in Nilagiri area of Balasore district. The acquaintance's suspected role of providing him shelter is being examined. On Saturday, we had arrested five associates of Jena for aiding his escape," assistant commissioner of police (zone-4) Abhimanyu Nayak said. Jena's arrest comes days after the city police arrested Udit Pradhan, state president of Congress's student wing, in a rape case . Jena's arrest followed a complaint lodged by the survivor on July 23. The complainant, currently aged 19, claimed Jena had sexually abused her in 2023, when she was underage. According to her FIR, their initial meeting took place in June 2023 during Raja festivities, which subsequently led to friendship. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Flights, Rentals & Accommodations Hotel Deals | Search Ads Browse Now Undo She alleged that she was two months pregnant following the sexual assault and had to go for an abortion in Feb last year, following Jena's assurance that he would marry her after divorcing his wife. But since April this year, Jena has been avoiding her, she claimed, and also issued death threats, asking her to leave the city. In her police complaint, she threatened self-immolation if the issue went unaddressed. Refusing to respond on the delayed reporting of the incident, ACP Nayak said, "Based on the girl's statement, we found prima facie evidence against the accused and arrested him." Jena was booked under BNS Sections 64(2) (m) (repeated rape), 89 (causing miscarriage without the woman's consent), 296 (obscene acts in public), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) and under Section 6 of the Pocso Act (aggravated sexual assault of minor). While being taken to court, Jena pointed fingers at a woman who was arrested in Bhubaneswar in 2022 for allegedly operating a high-profile sextortion network. "I am sure she framed me," said Jena, who had filed a defamation complaint with the police against the woman on July 22. Jena's family members and relatives, protesting near the police station, also claimed he was framed. "On July 22, Jena had lodged a complaint against a woman for defaming and attempting to extort money from him. The very next day, an unknown girl lodged a rape case against him," a family member alleged. The woman, however, dismissed the allegations. "I am in no way linked with the case. I do not know the rape case's complainant. Jena is unnecessarily dragging me into the controversy," she said.
