How to play PowerBall?
To play Powerball, a player chooses five numbers between 1 and 50 followed by a PowerBall number between 1 and 20.
The system also provides a quick pick selection method where it randomly chooses all the numbers on your behalf.
PowerBall tickets are available on selected banking apps; terms and conditions apply.
Tickets are available for purchase until 8:30pm on draw days (Tuesday and Friday). Tickets can also be bought on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 11.30pm.
The national lottery also gives you a chance to win money every day from the Daily Lotto. The draw takes place every evening just after 9.30pm. Tickets for the Daily Lotto can be bought every day until 8.30pm.
How to play Daily Lotto in SA? If you are buying a ticket in-store:
Pick up a bet slip in any lottery store.
Choose five numbers between 1 and 36 or ask for a Quick Pick.
Entries cost R3 each. You can play a max of R150, but you are allowed to play multiple boards.
Select how many consecutive draws you wish to enter, up to a maximum of 10. Leave blank for a single draw.
Take your bet slip to the teller to pay for your ticket.
Write your details on the back of your ticket in case you need to claim a prize. If you do not sign your ticket, and you lose it, anyone can use it to claim the prize.

What happens after winning?
Winners receive an SMS from their respective banks with a reference number and further instructions on the documents they should bring when visiting Ithuba.

For the winners who win more than R250 000, they get referred to the lottery operator, Ithuba, for a payout.
Free financial and trauma counselling is given to all winners who win above R50 000, tax-free.

While most weekly tickets have stayed under R250, most monthly fares have hit the R1 000 mark. 'In recent years, we have made a concerted effort to delay annual fare increases beyond the customary December period. For example, instead of implementing a fare increase in December 2023, we absorbed the rising costs until April 2024, and we again deferred the December 2024 increase.' Dyke-Beyer added that the interim contract the bus service had with the Western Cape Government provides for fare adjustments to rising operational costs. Dyke-Beyer explained: 'However, due to continued and widespread increases in operating costs across the supply chain, we are no longer able to delay further. As a result, fares will increase by an average of 4 percent, effective August 11, 2025. She said this increase is essential to maintain Golden Arrow's sustainability and continuity of its services. Passengers have been urged to make use of the Gold Card, which enables them to access discounted fare options. Women in South Africa are not only asserting their financial independence but are also increasingly becoming prominent figures in the realms of home and vehicle ownership. This shift underscores a newfound dominance in property investments that, until recently, were predominantly male domains, according to Lightstone Property's Hayley Ivins-Downes. 'We're seeing a clear and steady shift in ownership patterns as more South African women take on property purchases, reflecting both growing financial independence and confidence in property as a long-term investment. It's an encouraging sign of transformation in the real estate sector.' The proportion of homes owned by women as sole buyers has risen sharply from 30% in 2014 to an impressive 39% by 2025. In contrast, the share of mixed couple ownership has declined from 39% to 30%. Notably, 'single female buyers' are defined as women who are the sole registered owners of the property irrespective of their marital or relationship status. This burgeoning ownership trend has far-reaching implications; properties owned exclusively by women or jointly with men now account for a staggering 69% of all ownership, while men's ownership remains fixed at 31%. Lightstone's analysis reveals that out of approximately 200,000 residential property transactions conducted by natural persons in the last year, a remarkable 140,000 involved sole buyers, with 75,000 of those transactions attributed to sole women buyers. Additionally, around 60,000 transactions were joint purchases where women partnered with male buyers. This shift is further illustrated in the affordable property price ranges, where sole women buyers significantly outnumber their male counterparts, especially in the categories below R250,000, R250,000–R500,000, R500,000–R750,000, and R750,000–R1 million. Government-assisted housing programs also feature prominently in this trend, with 26% of transfers to women as exclusive owners being subsidised, compared to 21% for sole men buyers and 17% for joint male/female buyers. When these subsidised properties are set aside, it becomes evident that women buyers show a marked preference for secure living environments: 12% favoured Estate Freehold, 4% opted for Estate Sectional Schemes, and a substantial 37% chose Sectional Scheme properties.
