Braves legends Chipper Jones and Marquis Grissom to manage in All-Star Futures Game
Braves Hall of Famer Chipper Jones and Marquis Grissom will be the managers for the All-Star Futures Game on July 12 at Truist Park in Atlanta.
Jones will head the NL team and Grissom the AL team, Major League Baseball said Monday. Players for the game are drawn from affiliates of the 30 MLB clubs.

Jones was an eight-time All-Star third baseman who spent his entire career with Atlanta, hitting .303 with 468 homers and 1,623 RBIs from 1993-2012. He won a World Series title in 1995 and earned election to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot appearance in 2018.
Grissom spent the 1995 and 1996 seasons with the Braves, also earning a World Series ring. He was a two-time All-Star outfielder, hitting .272 with 227 homers and 967 RBIs for Montreal (1989-94), Atlanta (1995-96), Cleveland (1997), Milwaukee (1998-2000), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001-02) and San Francisco (2003-05).
Jones' coaches include Mark DeRosa (bench), Andruw Jones (hitting), Tim Hudson (pitching), Tyler Flowers (first base), Kanekoa Texeira (third base), Mick Markakis (general coach) and Peter Moylan (bullpen).

Grissom's coaches include Jerry Manuel (bench), Fred McGriff (hitting), Marvin Freeman (pitching), Dale Murphy (first base), Brian Hunter (third base), Ryan Klesko (general) and Johnny Estrada (bullpen).

However, this series highlighted his defensive deficiencies and some have questioned whether he and Jalen Brunson he is the co-star to work alongside Jalen Brunson. Former MLB player Jason Conti, who played for Arizona Diamondbacks, dies at 50
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced the death of former outfielder Jason Conti on social media Monday. He was 50 years old. "We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of former outfielder Jason Conti," the team posted on X. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason's family and friends at this time." Conti was drafted by the Diamondbacks in their first MLB draft class out of Pittsburgh in 1996. He played for the Diamondbacks in 52 games in 2000 and 2001, hitting .232 with one home run and 15 RBIs before being traded with Nick Bierbrodt to the Tampa Bay Rays for Mike DiFelice and Albie Lopez. Advertisement He later became a chef and in recent years had worked as chef for Craftsman Cocktails and Kitchen in Tempe. Conti also played for the Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers, seeing action in 182 games over his five-year career, with six home runs, 47 RBIs and a .238 batting average. Kevin Kramer, Conti's teammate at Pittsburgh, shared last month on Instagram that Conti was on life support after suffering a severe brain injury, but details of his injury were not released. "Today I share the worst news imaginable - my friend, my Pitt teammate and @mlb @dbacks World Series champion Jason Conti suffered a severe brain injury and is on life support," Kramer posted. Major trade idea gives the Lakers a defensive monster at center To make a baseball analogy, some people want the Los Angeles Lakers to swing for the fences and look to hit a home run rather than simply get a base hit single when it comes to pursuing a legitimate starting center this offseason. Names such as Nic Claxton, Daniel Gafford and even Jarrett Allen, who was named to the NBA All-Star Game three years ago, have been tossed around as possible targets. But one writer for ClutchPoints proposed a trade idea that would land the Lakers someone who has not only been an All-Star three times and the Defensive Player of the year four times, but also recently torched them in the playoffs. That's right — this trade idea would give the Purple and Gold none other than the French Rejection — otherwise known as Rudy Gobert. In this mock trade, they would give up guards Austin Reaves and Gabe Vincent and big man Maxi Kleber to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they would also receive Josh Minott, a little-used 22-year-old small forward. Via ClutchPoints: "Doing business with the team that just bested them in the playoffs wouldn't be easy for the Lakers, but there might not be a better center option available, and LA needs to maximize LeBron James' time in the league alongside Doncic before he retires," wrote Bailey Bassett. "Gobert has notably declined, evidenced by a 1.4 block per game average this past season. That mark was tied for Gobert's worst since his rookie year. He is also incredibly limited on offense when it comes to his post-up game, ball-handling skills, and jump shot. "Even so, Gobert is still an elite defensive player. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year is still one of the best rim protectors in the NBA. Ultimately, the Lakers just need a big body who can take up space down low and collect rebounds." This would be a high-risk, high-reward trade for the Lakers — not too much unlike the 2022 trade that brought Minnesota Gobert for four serviceable role players and four future first-round draft picks. In addition to his vast offensive limitations, Gobert seems to have some difficulties playing effective defense on the perimeter, as Luka Doncic proved in this year's playoffs, as well as last year's Western Conference finals. But his career average of 11.7 rebounds a game would greatly help a Lakers team that lacks power on the boards. He would also be an excellent target for lob passes from Doncic. Ultimately, this may be a trade idea the Lakers would want to turn down, depending on the other options they may or may not have elsewhere. Reaves shouldn't be untouchable, but he shouldn't be traded for someone such as Gobert who has serious limitations in his game on both ends of the court.
