Jaguars hire Vikings assistant Grant Udinski, 29, as offensive coordinator
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars are assembling one of the NFL's youngest coaching staffs.
Head coach Liam Coen, 39, hired Minnesota assistant Grant Udinski as his offensive coordinator late Wednesday, although Coen plans to call plays during his Jaguars tenure.
The 29-year-old Udinski comes to Jacksonville after spending three years working under Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell and getting two promotions. He started as assistant to the head coach/special projects before becoming assistant quarterbacks coach in 2023 and then assistant offensive coordinator last year.
'Grant will bring a wealth of knowledge, energy and a winning mindset to help lead our offense here in Jacksonville,' Coen said in a statement. 'He is a rising star in this league that has been a pillar of success for the Vikings organization, and we can't wait to have him.'
Coen previously hired Green Bay Packers run-game coordinator and linebackers coach Anthony Campanile as Jacksonville's defensive coordinator. The 42-year-old Campanile is entering his sixth NFL season and first as a defensive coordinator.
Together, they give the Jaguars a first-time head coach, a first-time OC and a first-time DC. They also have a first-time executive vice president after hiring Hall of Fame left tackle Tony Boselli. And they could end up with a first-time general manager, a position they expect to fill after the Super Bowl.
Udinski surely will have the least NFL experience of the bunch.
A college tight end at Davidson and then Towson, Udinski landed a graduate assistant job at Baylor under Matt Rhule in 2019. Udinski lived in his car in a Walmart parking lot before moving in with Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Phil Snow.
Udinski followed Rhule to the NFL's Carolina Panthers the following year. O'Connell lured him to Minnesota in 2022.
Coen and O'Connell both come from Sean McVay's coaching tree, having spent time working under McVay with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Jaguars also interviewed Washington quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard and Rams offensive assistant and passing game specialist Nathan Scheelhaase for the OC job.

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — Brooks Koepka admitted he's owed his share of apologies over the past couple months. Missing the cut at majors doesn't sit well with him. 'I would say from the first weekend in April until about last week, you didn't want to be around me,' he said Thursday after the first round of the U.S. Open. 'It drove me nuts. It ate at me. I haven't been happy. It's been very irritating.' Koepka's mood should be better if he can produce three more rounds like this. He shot a 2-under 68 at Oakmont, which left him in a tie for third, two strokes behind leader J.J. Spaun. Koepka made a 42-foot putt for eagle on the par-5 fourth, and after falling back to even par, he finished with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18. 'I thought I played pretty consistent, drove it really well. Iron play was pretty good. When I did miss it, I felt like I missed it in the correct spots. A couple of good bunker shots,' Koepka said. 'I'm really happy with the way I finished, and hopefully it leads into tomorrow.' Koepka missed the cut at both the Masters and PGA Championship this year. He owns five major titles, but he hasn't finished in the top 10 in one since winning the PGA Championship in 2023 at Oak Hill. His last LIV Golf victory was August of last year. So he's had plenty of reasons to be frustrated. And his coach, Pete Cowan, has had reasons to be exasperated with him. Koepka said Cowan gave him a good scolding in a bunker Monday. '(Justin Thomas) thought he had to come check on me in the bunker. We were in there for about 45 minutes, and he was on the other side of the green,' Koepka said. 'I wasn't happy with it, but it was something I think you need to hear or I needed to hear at the right time. It's not the first time he's done it.' That honesty is important to Koepka. 'I don't like having 'yes' people around me. I just want somebody to tell me the truth, tell me what's going on, what they see,' he said. 'If I start swaying from being Brooks Koepka, then I want someone to call me out on it.' On a day when only 10 players shot under par — and only two finished ahead of Koepka — there was plenty to be pleased with. 'I feel good. It's nice to put a good round together. Massive crowds have arrived in Oakmont for the U.S. Open and they are only expected to grow as play continues. While all eyes are on the U.S. Open Championship, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is getting a test run for a huge year coming up. Advertisement Pennsylvania will be at the center of the sports world in 2026. The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off in Pittsburgh in April. The PGA Championship will be held just outside of Philadelphia. Some World Cup Games will also be held in Philadelphia, along with the MLB All-Star Game. Hosting just one of these events would be huge for the Commonwealth but all of them combined are expected to have a huge impact. 'It's projected that all of these sports events and tourism in general are going to generate 90 billion dollars in economic impact across the state, which is just massive,' said Deputy Secretary for Tourism for PA, Anne Ryan. 'When you can host an event like the NFL draft or FIFA World Cup, the site selectors who are responsible for identifying the next host cities say 'they have the infrastructure, the operations, the people - the fans.'
