Why the New Harry Potter Trio will have it Worse Than the Original

They're finally here.
After months of anticipation, WB has officially revealed that the new trio of the Potter reboot which includes Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Alastair Stout (Ron), and Arabella Stanton (Hermione).
The main trio has been cast for the 'HARRY POTTER' TV series:

Though a lot of people are excited that the series is going to start moving forward, there are some on the internet who are familiar with online fandom spaces and have nothing but worry for these three new faces—especially Arabella Stanton who is clearly not caucasian.
Already reactions have started to get toxic, and some fans are already bracing themselves for the kind of vitriol that these children are going to be up against online.
i'm not interested in this reboot, but i pray for the safety and protection of these kids. their lives are about to become very messy very fast, and i wish them the best of luck in the face of discrimination, adversity, and parasocial fanaticism from harry potter adults https://t.co/paFMW7tgTg

Even with the original trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, the actors have been open about how hard it was to become celebrities at such young ages, and at one point Watson even wanted to quit around the time of the third movie.
With McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton, they now have the internet to worry about, plus the toxic fans that seem to make meals out of hating every single change that comes with new adaptations. I mean, the movies were already being harshly compared to the books, but now the series has a bigger audience to satisfy thanks to the films.
With studios recently making moves to protect some of their actors online, I hope that WB already has systems in place to protect the new trio from any online vitriol. That being said, there are still ways for toxic fandoms to get to actors. The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey had to quit social media after relentless bullying from everyone who didn't think that she looked like Ellie from the game, and TLOU threads are just littered with very horrible edits of her.
There are some that suggest that the series follow The Crown 's format and just recast the main trio every few years, but as it stands, WB is making a huge gamble with this reboot, and these kids are going to have some huge shoes to fill.
In the meantime, Harry Potter is aiming to release sometime in 2027, and with the main trio cast, production can be underway very soon. Watch out for the Potter reboot on HBO Max.

Sophie Turner is Ripped for Her Tomb Raider Prep

Sophie Turner may be best known for the role of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones , and after her run as Jean Grey for X-Men , it looks like she's ready to jump into another franchise with Tomb Raider . Though we don't have an official look at the show yet, Turner has revealed just how jacked she's getting in her preparation for the role of Lara Croft. Check her out: Sophie Turner has been training for her upcoming role as Lara Croft in Amazon's #TombRaider show 💪 — Culture Crave 🍿 (@CultureCrave) May 20, 2025 There have admittedly been rumors that the Tomb Raider series had been cancelled ever since it was announced back in November, but things look to be moving forward as Amazon had just renewed their deal with the producers over at Story Kitchen. It's also worth noting that the series is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is best known for her work in Fleabag . Admittedly, the Tomb Raider franchise has been having a hard time trying to stay relevant in live-action. The Angelina Jolie films just fizzled out, and nothing came out of the Alicia Vikander reboot. There was an animated series that came out on Netflix last year, but it didn't manage to get the hype it was hoping for. With successful adaptations like Fallout and The Last of Us , maybe Tomb Raider has a better chance at being a series. Though I wouldn't expect as much spectacle with a TV-format, I do think that Waller-Bridge is a great writer, and we can have an interesting characterization of Lara Croft besides the action hero we've all come to know. No release date has been set for the Tomb Raider series on Amazon.

How Trump's Hollywood Tarrifs could Mess Up Upcoming Marvel Movies

The Tariff Wars continue, and besides incoming products from outside the US, President Trump is now looking to put a 100% tariff on movies that weren't made in the United States, including films from Marvel. According to Variety, Trump's announcement planning to put tariffs on movies was met with chaos by non-US producers—specifically from the UK. One producer said, 'If this goes the distance, it will decimate the industry. But you can't just stop production,' and another also shared, 'Even unemployed Americans are saying this is nuts — these are people who have genuinely had their careers shattered because of production moving to Europe.' Though this is expected to be a huge blow to the industry as a whole, some think that this would also particularly hit hard for Marvel Studios, who had recently moved their home base from Atlanta to London—and one of their most anticipated movies— Avengers: Doomsday —is filming in London right now. Admittedly, some people are just waiting to see if this is some kind of short rant that Trump has; and they are waiting to see something on paper before they start reacting to it. With so much of the industry being about moving productions to other places around the world, a tariff on projects not shot in the US does seem like a major shake-up to the status quo. With America's economy already getting tanked, some are hopeful that more action is going to be taken with these tariffs; but for now, all we can really do is just wait and see what happens. As for Marvel, their latest movie, Thunderbolts* (which wasn't exclusively shot in the US) is now out in theaters.
