India Today2 days ago
The privileges committee of the Maharashtra legislature will issue a show-cause notice to stand-up comic Kunal Kamra within the next two days for his remarks against Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, MLC Prasad Lad said on Monday.Besides Kamra, the notice will also be sent to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare. The decision to issue the show-cause notices was finalised during a meeting of the panel held last week.advertisement
BJP MLC Lad, who heads the committee, told PTI that the notice will be issued in two days."The draft (of the notice) has been sent to the law and judiciary department for legal opinion. Once finalised, it will be dispatched to both Kamra and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare through the police commissioner," he said.BJP MLC Pravin Darekar had moved a breach of privilege notice against Kamra and Andhare during the state legislature's Budget session. The notice stated that Kamra's parody song had insulting references aimed at Shinde.Andhare had supported Kamra and used objectionable language which was contempt of the legislature, it said.Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde had forwarded the breach of privilege notice to the committee in June.During his performance at the Habitat Comedy Club at the Unicontinental hotel in Khar area of Mumbai, Kamra had referred to Shinde as a "traitor" for splitting the Shiv Sena headed by Uddhav Thackeray in 2022.The parody was a modified version of a Hindi song from the movie 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' to describe his 2022 rebellion against Uddhav.Stung by the satire, Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Kanal and 11 others ransacked the venue at a Mumbai hotel where Kamra had performed in March this year.Unfazed by the violence, Kamra refused to apologise and criticised the vandalism of the venue where the comedy show was recorded. He was booked by the Khar police on a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the deputy chief minister.Kamra had submitted in the Madras High Court that he moved to Tamil Nadu from Mumbai in 2021 and has been "ordinarily a resident of this State since then" and that he feared arrest by Mumbai Police. The Madras High Court had extended the interim anticipatory bail granted to Kamra till April 17.He never appeared before the Mumbai Police which had summoned him two times.- EndsMust Watch

When Karan Johar recalled first meeting with Shah Rukh Khan: "People said he was arrogant"

Bollywood's king Shah Rukh Khan and the talented director Karan Johar share a special kind of bond with each other. However, their first meeting was rather tense. In a throwback interview, KJo, shared that when he first accompanied his father to a film set where Shah Rukh was present, he carried with him the gossip-fuelled belief that the rising actor was 'arrogant. ' But what unfolded was quite the opposite. "Everyone used to say Shah Rukh Khan was arrogant,' Karan remembered. 'But he came up to me, spoke with such warmth and humility, and completely changed the narrative I had in my head.' That day, he said, was the beginning of a bond that would go on to define Hindi cinema in many ways. The First Real Meeting That Almost Didn't Happen Interestingly, Karan recalled a time much before their first meet, long before they became collaborators or friends. At the age of 15, Karan revealed that he had once waited in filmmaker Aanand Mahendroo's office for hours, seated right across from Shah Rukh, but neither spoke a word. "I had no idea it was him," Karan admitted. It was only after SRK left that someone pointed out who he'd been sitting next to. That almost-meeting took on a new significance years later, as Karan and Shah Rukh would go on to collaborate on landmark films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name is Khan, with their off-screen bond becoming as cherished as their on-screen work. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Madras High Court summons Chennai corporation commissioner

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has summoned Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation on Thursday in connection with a contempt of court petition filed for action against him for disobeying the previous orders on taking action against building plan violations and deviations in Zone V and other zones. The first bench of Chief Justice K R Shriram and Justice Sunder Mohan issued the orders summoning the commissioner when Additional Advocate General J Ravindran mentioned about the previous day's order imposing Rs 1 lakh costs on the commissioner and requested to keep the order in abeyance. The bench questioned why the commissioner did not appear when the contempt case came up for hearing on Tuesday and asked whether the officer thinks he is above the court only because he is an IAS officer. The contempt petition was filed by N Rukmangathan, a former councillor, seeking action against the commissioner for wilful disobedience of an order passed in 2022.

Mumbai MLA hostel caterer's licence suspended after 'stale' food claim by legislator

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of a caterer that operates the canteen at the MLA hostel in Mumbai, where a staffer was assaulted by a Shiv Sena legislator for allegedly serving stale food. The FDA, in its suspension order on Wednesday evening, stated the contractor (Ajanta Caterers) had violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. The violations were found during an inspection conducted at the Akashwani MLA hostel earlier on Wednesday, said the regulator. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologist Reveals: The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! The action comes after ruling Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad slapped and punched an employee at the MLAs' hostel canteen for serving "stale food". Live Events The MLA from Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led party said he had repeatedly raised concerns about the quality of food served in the canteen but no corrective action was taken. "I had complained several times about the food served in the canteen but the situation remained unchanged," Gaikwad claimed. Viral video footage showing the Buldhana MLA slapping and punching an employee at the MLAs' hostel canteen for serving "stale food" has drawn widespread condemnation from government and opposition, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denouncing the act. The CM said such behaviour sends a "wrong message" about legislators misusing their power. The widely circulated video shows Gaikwad, wearing a vest and a towel, confronting the canteen contractor and forcing him to smell a packet of dal before slapping and punching him. Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Eknath Shinde said if something wrong is happening, there could be legal action, but beating up people is inappropriate.
