The original soundtrack Golden of Netflix's global animated hit KPop Demon Hunters soared to the top of the UK Official Singles Chart, marking the first K-pop song to reach No. 1 in over a decade. Released as part of the animated film, Golden achieved the No. 1 position in its sixth week on the chart, rising three spots from the previous week. The track, performed by the fictional girl group Huntr/x, is a part of the movie's soundtrack, which features a K-pop girl group battling evil spirits to protect the human world. The UK Official Charts Company highlighted that this is the first K-pop No. 1 on the British chart since Psy's record-breaking Gangnam Style in 2012. In a statement published on the company's website, Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Charts, called the achievement 'another landmark moment for the globally dominating South Korean genre'. Golden has resonated with listeners for its catchy melody and impressive vocal performances. The track has garnered attention for its blend of K-pop and English lyrics, with some lines including Korean phrases like 'forever unbreakable'. It has been described as a summer hit, gaining traction alongside the success of the animated film. The song, composed by Ejae, a former SM Entertainment trainee, and performed by Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, also includes production from renowned K-pop producers Teddy and 24 of The Black Label. The film's success has helped propel Golden to new heights, moving up steadily from No. 93 to No. 4 before claiming the top spot. In addition to its success in the UK, Golden has reached No. 1 on South Korea's Melon Top 100 chart and No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Over 1,200 fans attended Changi Airport's SG60 Homecoming Concert which had Stefanie Sun, Kit Chan and more

Music fans in Singapore turned up to Jewel Changi Airport in droves on Friday (Aug 1) for the SG60 Homecoming Concert organised by Changi Airport. The free event was headlined by Singapore music icons Stefanie Sun and Kit Chan and saw performances from Regina Song, Sezairi Sezali and more. Fans were treated to nostalgic tunes from Singaporean songbirds, covers of global hits and even projections. Members of MADDspace Performing Arts Studio kicked off the festivities with performances of Stefanie Sun's Green Light, JJ Lin's Whenever and their own original National Day piece titled From Spark To Flame – Our Home, Our Singapore. Attendees then rocked out to energetic covers of Bon Jovi's It's My Life, The Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling and ABBA's Dancing Queen – courtesy of pop-rock band SuperSonic. The group concluded its set with a cover of the 2015 National Day theme song, Tomorrow's Here Today. TikTok sensation Regina Song proved why she's the next big star to look out for, with performances of her hit track The Cutest Pair as well as her song High School Boy and a cover of Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me. Singapore Idol winner Sezairi Sezali got fans swaying with a ballad rendition of his 2021 National Day song, The Road Ahead. He then sang his singles Kata and It's You, drawing applause. Mandopop folk-duo The Freshman kept the energy high with their song I'm Coming Home and Call Me (Not Maybe), before closing off with their rendition of Kelvin Tan's The Voices Of Ordinary People. Finally, it was time for the women of the hour. First up was Kit Chan, who opened with her set with her 1996 track Liking You. She then brought the house down as fans joined her in singing the iconic National Day hit, Home, which garnered thunderous applause. Stefanie Sun made her grand return to Singapore's stage with her songs Against The Light and Encounter. Cheers from the crowd peaked as she performed her 2002 National Day hit We Will Get There, closing the concert on a high. Following the concert, fans were in for another treat as Jewel's Rain Vortex began its National Day show, which saw projections of Singaporean symbols in hand-drawn watercolour illustrations.

Teenager suffers severe burns when foot sinks near geyser in US' Yellowstone park

Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox WASHINGTON - A teenager who was visiting Yellowstone National Park was severely burned this week when his foot sank through the thin crust of ground in a popular geyser area, the US National Park Service said. The teenager, a 17-year-old boy, was hiking on July 28 in the thermal area near the Lone Star Geyser, which is in the same geyser basin as Old Faithful, when his foot broke through the crust, causing 'significant thermal burns to his foot and ankle area,' the park service said in a statement. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, the service said. Park officials, who did not release his name, said that the episode was under investigation. Geysers are a type of hot spring that erupts with both water and steam. Contact with the scalding water in a geyser can cause severe or even fatal burns, so boardwalks and trails have been constructed in the area to protect visitors as well as the thermal formations. Officials did not say whether the teenager was in areas deemed appropriate for tourists when he was hurt or had ventured past the boundaries, either intentionally or by accident. It was the first known thermal injury this year in connection with Yellowstone's famous hot springs, which have been popular but risky tourist attractions for years. They can reach temperatures hotter than 85 deg C, according to US Geological Survey. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Eruptions from the Lone Star Geyser shoot up about every three hours, sometimes rising as high as 13m. An asphalt trail leads to the geyser, but the last few hundred feet are unpaved. The Parks Service routinely advises visitors to remain on boardwalks and trails and avoid touching thermal features or runoff. Entering the waters is prohibited. Visitors are also warned that they should leave geyser basins if they feel ill from toxic gases. NYTIMES
