Jayden Danns gets bleak injury update in worrying admission over Liverpool starlet

Yahoo27-03-2025

Liverpool striker Jayden Danns continues to endure a frustrating second half of the season. The latest injury update is not a positive one.
You'd be forgiven for not realizing, but Danns actually completed a loan switch to Sunderland in the winter transfer window. Letting him leave looked like a relatively risky move by Arne Slot at the time, given the continuing woes of Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, although the opportunity for him to gain experience at the business end of the Championship looked like a good one.
But the way things have turned out, Danns has not been able to make an impact anywhere. After the clubs detected an injury during the transfer process, it was decided that the youngster would complete his recuperation at Liverpool — and with only a handful of games left in the Championship season, he's still not even training with Sunderland.

It's a mark of how highly Sunderland rates Danns that it went ahead with the deal despite the uncertain injury prognosis. But presumably it was expected, or at least hoped, that the Anfield talent would have been fit to play a role by now.
However, manager Regis Le Bris has warned that time is running out for Danns to play any kind of role. While he denied that Sunderland is at a point where it needs to "admit defeat," he conceded that the Liverpool man is in a race against time to make any kind of impact.
"We are not at this point right now but the season is running so it will be difficult," Le Bris said, via the Northern Echo. "We don't know exactly."
The injury in question is a persistent back issue, which also disrupted Danns in pre-season. Still only 19, he will be hopeful of shaking it off completely in the long run, but it has colored his entire campaign after such an exciting breakthough under Jurgen Klopp.
There is still theoretically time for Danns to recover and make a dramatic impact for Sunderland. There are eight games left of the regular Championship season, but the playoffs look like a near-certainty for the Black Cats.
Danns' loan side is 11 points adrift of the automatic promotion places, but 12 points above seventh. The playoff final will take place on May 24, still almost two months away.
But even assuming Danns can get fit by then, it would be a very brave call to throw in a striker who has hardly even trained with the Sunderland team. Wilson Isidor has been reasonably potent at the tip of the attack this season, netting 12 times in 35 appearances, and the north-east outfit has actually scored more goals than Sheffield United and Burnley (currently second and third).
While the Liverpool striker can just about still dream of a fairytale ending to the season, it looks more likely that he will be forced to write the campaign off as something of a nightmare. At the very least, here's hoping he can get fit in time for pre-season, where he will try to convince Slot not to send him anywhere.

Heritage's turnaround ends with a Virginia Class 4 baseball championship

Heritage baseball coach Nolan Potts will admit it: in early May, his team just wasn't very good. Its record was 6-11, a far cry from the lofty expectations set at the season's outset. Time was running out. So the Pride gathered for a meeting, where a parent offered the players a motto. He told them to 'burn the ships' — meaning they should leave their prior struggles in the past. They knew they had the talent to turn things around. They just needed to prove it. 'We just found the positives throughout the negativity and focused on that to build for future games,' junior Mark Van Tuyle said. Suddenly, a switch flipped. The wins started coming and the Pride kept knocking down hurdles. They won the program's first region championship and eventually earned a shot at the ultimate prize. On Saturday in Charlottesville, Heritage found its final form in a 12-2 victory over Woodgrove – a 12th straight win that earned it the Virginia Class 4 championship. When the game ended in the fifth inning by way of mercy rule, it secured the first state title for a Heritage boys' program in any sport. 'A lot of people, based on our overall record, didn't think we could do this,' Potts said. 'But these guys believed the entire time that if we hit a hot streak and got healthy, this wasn't out of the question. Just to cap it off the way we did yesterday, it was a perfect. Storybook ending to the season.' Recovering from early-season injuries helped the Pride (18-11) power back into contention. Brothers Aaron and Mark Van Tuyle missed the start of the season, but when they returned, Heritage had a dynamic one-two punch on the mound. Once the offense picked up, everything was in place. 'It all just clicked. Everyone started thinking that we could make a run, and the coaches never gave up on us,' said Cooper Miskelly, a junior who hit .647 in the final 12 games of the season. The Pride treated Saturday's contest like any other game, coming up against a Woodgrove (22-5) team it had split two prior games with this season. They played loose, presenting solid defense behind a one-hit pitching performance from Mark Van Tuyle one day removed from his brother's complete-game shutout in the semifinals. A three-run first inning set the tone before a six-run second put Heritage in complete control. 'We knew we had to be aggressive and treat every play as if it were a 0-0 game,' said Aaron Van Tuyle, a Richmond signee who played left field. 'So every inning we continued to tack on runs, and it worked out for us.' Even as the result creeped toward definite, Potts remained nervous. But this evolved version of his team looked unbothered by the stage, even with it being the program's first time even qualifying for the state tournament. The past wasn't a concern. The players kept their focus forward and finished the job.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025: How to Livestream the Soccer Tournament for Free from Anywhere

The FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in its new, expanded format this weekend, featuring 32 of the world's top clubs competing over four weeks and 63 matches across 11 host cities in the US. Below, we'll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch every match of the tournament as it happens, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if the match isn't available where you are, along with a full fixture list. Advertisement Modeled after the international FIFA World Cup, this newly restructured tournament is set to be held every four years, marking a major shift in the global club football calendar. Teams taking part are mainly the champions of their respective continental tournaments over the past four years — such as the UEFA Champions League and Copa Libertadores — with additional slots allocated to clubs from stronger confederations like Europe's UEFA and South America's CONMEBOL. European heavyweights in the lineup include pretournament favorites Real Madrid, holders Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and this year's UCL winners Paris Saint-Germain. South America will be represented by the likes of Palmeiras, Flamengo, River Plate and Boca Juniors. From the CONCACAF region, Monterrey, Seattle Sounders and Pachuca will lead the charge, while the tournament is also set to feature the likes of Al-Ahly from Egypt, Auckland City from New Zealand and Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan. The buildup to the Club World Cup hasn't been without controversy. Several high-profile clubs, including Premier League champions Liverpool, are notably absent. The qualification process has also drawn criticism, particularly the selection of Lionel Messi's Inter Miami to represent Major League Soccer instead of reigning MLS Cup champions LAFC, though the latter did eventually qualify through a play-in game. Advertisement In addition, concerns about player burnout have intensified, with coaches and players raising the alarm over the increasingly congested football calendar. Ticket sales across several venues have reportedly been sluggish, suggesting that enthusiasm for the new format may take time to build. Armchair fans will nevertheless lap up a new summer showcase of elite club soccer, with big-name stars like Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Jude Bellingham all set to feature. Thirty-two teams from around the world are set to take part in the four-week tournament, with the final set to be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security. Advertisement However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN use to access region-specific content. If you're considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform's terms of service to ensure compliance. If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider's installation instructions, ensuring you're connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements.
