Man dead, 2 people hospitalized after shooting involving deputies in Cooper City, authorities say
Just after 12 p.m., the Broward Sheriff's Office was called out to the 10200 block of Griffin Road in Cooper City regarding a man who had allegedly shot himself, prompting deputies and Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue to respond and find the injured man.
According to the preliminary investigation, a responding deputy approached the man to try to help him; however, the injured man allegedly attacked the deputy, forcing him to shoot his weapon, BSO said.
BSFR personnel began lifesaving measures, but the man died at the scene, BSO said.
BSFR and Davie Fire Rescue took the man's mother and another deputy to the hospital with unknown injuries, but BSO said neither of them was injured by gunfire.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently on the scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Two women arrested for Culver City shooting, stealing e-bike
Two women were arrested for allegedly shooting another woman then stealing her electrical bike in Culver City on Friday. Police said that the incident happened on Aug. 1 at around 1 a.m., somewhere in the 4000 block of Sepulveda Boulevard near Washington Place, said a news release from the Culver City Police Department. Upon arrival, officers began to investigate the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left a woman with a gunshot wound to the left forearm. "Officers immediately rendered aid, applying a tourniquet to control heavy bleeding until Culver City Fire Department personnel arrived," said CCPD's news release. "The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries." Police say that the woman was shot after she resisted a group of suspect who attempted to take her e-bike. By the time police arrived, the suspects had all fled. "Culver City Police Department investigators immediately launched an investigation and, with the assistance of the department's automated license plate reader system, quickly identified the suspect vehicle and its driver," said the CCPD release. They identified the driver as 21-year-old Navya Joy Mackey. She was arrested when officers pulled her over on Aug. 6. While still investigating the incident, detectives identified the shooter as 25-year-old Los Angeles woman Nya Cimone White. "After narrowing White's location on Aug. 14, 2025, emergency response team personnel, a crisis negotiation team and special enforcement team officers served a search warrant and arrest warrant," CCPD's release said. She was taken into custody without incident and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, police said. She remains behind bars in lieu of $2 million bail. While searching White's apartment, police said they found two assault rifles with high-capacity magazines, .40-caliber and 9mm ammunition, high-capacity pistol magazines and approximately one kilogram of a substance they believed to be cocaine. Execution date set for Florida man who killed estranged wife's sister and parents, set fire to house
A Florida man who fatally stabbed his estranged wife's sister and parents and then set fire to their house is scheduled for execution in Florida under a death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. David Pittman, 63, is set to die Sept. 17 in the record-extending 12th execution scheduled for this year. DeSantis signed the warrant Friday, as two other men, Kayle Bates and Curtis Windom, await execution later this month. The highest previous annual total of recent Florida executions is eight in 2014, since the death penalty was restored in 1976 by the US Supreme Court. Florida has already executed nine people this year, more than any other state, while Texas and South Carolina are tied for second place with four each. Pittman was convicted and sentenced to death in 1991 on three counts of first-degree murder, according to court records. Jurors also found him guilty of arson and grand theft. Pittman and his wife, Marie, were going through a divorce in May 1990, when Pittman went to the Polk County home of her parents, Clarence and Barbara Knowles, officials said. Pittman fatally stabbed the couple, as well as their younger daughter, Bonnie. He then set fire to the house and stole Bonnie Knowles' car, which he also set on fire, investigators said. A witnessed identified Pittman as the person running away from the burning car. A jailhouse informant also testified that Pittman had admitted to the killings. The Florida Supreme Court is already scheduled to hear an appeal. An appeal will also likely be filed with the US Supreme Court.
