Deepshikha Nagpal Says B-Grade Films Hurt Her Bollywood Image: 'I Made Wrong Choices'
Last Updated:
Deepshikha Nagpal, known for films like Koyla and Baadshah, moved to TV after poor film choices hurt her career.
Deepshikha Nagpal, who has starred in popular Bollywood movies like Koyla, Baadshah, Dillagi and Partner, recently talked about her move from films to TV. In a new interview, she said that some wrong choices in films made people in the industry judge her and put her in a certain category. This made her decide to try her luck on television instead.
Deepshikha also shared that she loves all the roles she has played and is very passionate about acting. She said acting wasn't her first plan, but once she started, she worked hard. Looking back, she admitted she made some mistakes in choosing films but never disliked any of her roles.
The actress told Instant Bollywood, 'During that time, it used to be like if it's a new production, then it's a B-grade film, like Yash Raj and Subhash Ghai films were like A-list films. So it was difficult to understand how to choose. There was no godfather, and now I feel a godfather is very important to guide you. I made a lot of wrong film choices at that time. My grandfather used to say that no work is small or big, work is work. I think I took that too seriously, and I kept doing whatever work came my way. I did a lot of stupid films which never released."
Talking about her transition to television, she said, 'Some of the releases had a very bad impact on my career. I had signed a lot of big films, but after my poster in the Trade Guide, people used to judge that it's a B-grade movie she is doing, and they didn't cast me. Then I got to know that the damage is done. I said, 'Can we just forget about it?' They said, 'No, it will impact our film. ' Then I started doing television shows. I was doing wrong films, people were not trusting me and categorising me that I cannot be an A-lister. So then I got frustrated. It was new then—Doordarshan, Zee TV—and roles were coming to me easily. Even after doing films, I was one of the few who took TV, and it helped me establish myself again."
Deepshikha became well-known on TV for playing negative roles in shows like Son Pari, Ramayan, Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny, Baalveer, Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Santoshi Maa, and more. She also joined reality shows like Bigg Boss 8 and Nach Baliye.

Jamie Lever Recalls Being Called ‘Chudail', Trolled For Skin Tone: ‘Asked To Use Ubtan'
Last Updated: Jamie Lever opens up about being trolled for her skin tone, called 'chudail,' and advised to 'become fair.' She also shares how she embraced her curves. In a deeply personal and powerful revelation, actress and comedian Jamie Lever has opened up about the years of online and offline abuse she has endured for her appearance — especially for her skin tone and body type. In a candid conversation with Hauterrfly, Jamie, the daughter of legendary comic actor Johnny Lever, shared how she was subjected to relentless trolling and unsolicited advice in her formative years, all for simply looking the way she does. 'I get so many comments — 'Kaali hai, chudail lagti hai, chudail jaise hasti hai, you are ugly, you won't get work in the industry, tu marr kyu nahi jaati…' These are the kinds of messages I've received all my life," Jamie revealed during the podcast. Her words shine a harsh light on the colourism that remains deeply entrenched in Indian society and the entertainment industry. She continued, 'Growing up, I was constantly told to apply ubtans and turmeric to become fair. People genuinely believed that my success depended on my fairness. Colourism is such a huge issue in our country, and it starts young." The trolling wasn't limited to just her skin tone. Jamie also opened up about struggling with body image issues as a child. Being plump and curvy invited a different kind of judgment — often from those closest to her. 'Even my own family asked me to cover my posterior because I have a bigger hip. I have a pear-shaped body — what do I do about it? I would only wear long kurtas and dresses to keep my lower body hidden. It took years before I could truly embrace my body and curves." Despite the negativity, Jamie has carved a strong niche for herself in the world of entertainment. Widely known for her razor-sharp wit and mimicry skills, she is a respected name in stand-up comedy and social media circuits. From viral Instagram sketches to roles in Bollywood films like Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk, Jamie has shown resilience and versatility. By speaking her truth, Jamie Lever is not only reclaiming her narrative but also encouraging many others to embrace their individuality in a world obsessed with appearance.
