Over 70 police stations in Mumbai get new senior inspectors

The Mumbai police saw a major reshuffle on Saturday, with over 70 police stations getting new senior inspectors. The move came after 156 senior inspectors across Maharashtra were promoted to assistant commissioner of police (ACP), including 49 in Mumbai.
As many as 100 inspectors were promoted to senior inspector rank, with most taking charge of police stations in the city. However, 23 senior inspectors—who were heading prominent police stations and had declined ACP promotions to continue as station in-charges—were transferred to side postings in the Local Arms, Traffic, and Protection & Security branches, a police officer said.
The shake-up comes just two weeks before the Ganesh festival. Of Mumbai's 94 police stations, 49 senior inspectors were promoted to ACP, while the 23 who refused promotions were reassigned.

Police gear up for Ganesh and Dasara festivities with foolproof security arrangements in Andhra Pradesh

Police are making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the nine-day Ganesh Utsavams and Dasara Navaratri Utsavams across the State. Review meetings are being held with officers to finalise bandobust plans. 'The Ganesh Utsava Samiti members must obtain prior permission from the police for erecting pandals and take measures to prevent clashes and fire accidents,' a police officer said on Sunday. 'We will also hold meetings with Samiti members, committee organisers, and local leaders to ensure peaceful celebrations.' The Samiti, which met on Sunday, appealed to district, mandal, and village organisers to secure permissions from the Police, Fire, and other relevant departments, and to cooperate with officials for a trouble-free conduct of the festivities. Organisers have been asked to submit immersion (Nimajjanam) dates in advance to ease traffic management and facilitate arrangements at river ghats and other water bodies. Police said details such as the height of the Ganesh idol, name of the pandal organiser, fire-fighting arrangements, date of immersion, and procession routes must be provided for the Ganesh Navaratri Utsavams, which begin on August 27. Dasara arrangements For the Dasara Navaratri Utsavams atop Indrakeeladri and other locations in Vijayawada, more than 5,000 police personnel will be deployed. Measures will be taken to prevent thefts and other crimes during the nine-day celebrations. At a joint meeting on Dasara arrangements, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu, and Sri Durga Malleswaraswamy Devasthanam Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik, among others, reviewed security and other preparations for the Navaratri Utsavams, which commence on September 22.

No Fees For Ganesh Mandals This Year; NMC Opens Online Permission Portal

1 2 3 Nagpur: Public Ganesh mandals will not have to pay any fees to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) this year, as the civic body has continued its exemption on sanitation and estate charges. Alongside this relief, the NMC on Sunday launched an online portal to process permissions for mandals, receiving 12 applications from five zones on the very first day. Applications came from Mangalwari Zone (2), Hanuman Nagar Zone (2), Laxmi Nagar Zone (3), Gandhibagh Zone (2), and Satranjipura Zone (3). These have been forwarded to the respective zones, and permissions will be issued within three days after NOCs are received from the fire department, local police station, and traffic police. To speed up the process, the NMC has asked personnel from all three departments to be present at zone offices to avoid delays. Earlier, the NMC charged a sanitation fee of Rs250 for the solid waste management department and Rs1,000 (per foot of gate size) for the estate department. Both charges were scrapped two years ago, and the exemption continues for 2025. In line with the state govt's August 1 notification and High Court orders, the NMC is requiring mandals to submit an affidavit on Rs100 stamp paper pledging not to install Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. The high court has mandated that all PoP idols be immersed only in artificial tanks, and the NMC will strictly enforce this directive. The new online system incorporates traffic department permissions, making the process more convenient and time-efficient for mandals. All approvals will comply with the HC's guidelines on idol immersion. Police-Mandal Meeting on August 12 City police will hold a meeting with all Ganesh mandals on August 12 at 11am at the Suresh Bhat Hall, Reshimbagh. NMC officials, representatives from other departments, and NGOs have been invited. The meeting will cover measures to prevent PoP idols, promote govt campaigns, ensure safety during installation and immersion processions, introduce new immersion routes, and strengthen crowd management and security protocols. Visakhapatnam police lay down safety, eco-friendly norms for Vinayaka Chaviti pandals

With just two weeks to go for Vinayaka Chaviti, the city police convened a meeting with Ganesh pandal organising committees to outline guidelines for idol installation and safety protocols during the festivities. Commissioner of Police Shankabrata Bagchi urged organisers to prioritise eco-friendly clay idols and instructed police personnel to hold awareness programmes in educational institutions to discourage the use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. He directed that each pandal must have at least three volunteers on duty round the clock, with their contact details shared with the local police station. Organisers were told to ensure proper barricading, lighting, public-address systems, backup generators, orderly queue management, adequate parking facilities, and multiple entry and exit points at procession and immersion sites. No inflammable materials should be stored near pandals, and water and sand must be kept ready at all times as fire safety measures. Mr. Bagchi stressed that pandals should not inconvenience the public and must be set up on only one side of the road to avoid traffic disruptions. DJ systems are strictly banned at pandals and processions. Organisers must install CCTV cameras with 24x7 recording and monitoring. Forced donations, lucky dips, and lotteries remain prohibited. Idol immersions are permitted only at officially designated locations, and firecrackers are banned during immersion processions. Loudspeakers and microphones must adhere to prescribed decibel limits and are prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. As in previous years, the city police will soon launch a dedicated website for pandal organisers to apply for permissions. Meanwhile, idol makers have been working for months to prepare thousands of idols. The district sees an average of 3,000 to 4,000 installations each year, and this time will feature some unique creations — including, for the first time, a Ganesh idol adorned with one lakh sarees at Lanka Grounds in Gajuwaka.
