PMA sanctions cadets accused of maltreatment
'The involved cadets were given appropriate punishment depending on the degree of their participation. PMA has strict zero tolerance on maltreatment and hazing — no place in the institution,' said PMA spokesperson, Lt. Jesse Saludo.
The complainant has sought the help of police and said he was beaten multiple times in 2024, allegedly inside the barracks in most instances.
The last incident, which allegedly occurred on September 29, 2024 left him hospitalized at the V. Luna Medical Center for several days.
'Binubugbog daw siya especially kapag nasa loob ng barracks. Nung September 29, hindi na niya nakayanan kaya siya nag-report. Na-ospital siya, na-transfer siya sa V. Luna, where he was confined there for several days,' PMAJ. Marcy Marron, spokesperson for the Baguio City Police, said.
On June 30, 2025, the victim was discharged officially from the PMA due to medical reasons.
NOT HAZING?
The PMA conducted its own investigation and confirmed that the four cadets, indeed, hurt the complainant. However, the academy clarified that what happened could not be considered hazing under Republic Act 8049 or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.
'Injuries were caused by the classmates venting their frustration on their squadmate because they believed the performance of their squadmate is affecting their squad. The incident does not fall under the legal definition of hazing,' Lt. Jesse Saludo, PMA spokesperson, said.
"It falls on 'conduct unbecoming' because they are inflicting physical farm to a fellow soldier," Saludo told Marisol Abdurahman on a 24 Oras report on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The PMA said it respects the family's decision to pursue legal charges and recognizes the victim's right to take the case to civilian court.
'The victim still retains his right to file a case in civilian court should he choose to do so,' Saludo said.
The complaint is now with the Baguio Prosecutor's Office, where authorities are reviewing whether the case merits the issuance of arrest warrants.

Marcos had disclosed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget of flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors. The total number of the flood control projects was 9,855. Marcos earlier said a total of 6,021 projects were worth more than P350 billion, adding that they do not specify the exact type of flood control structures built, repaired, or rehabilitated. The President's list of 15 contractors does not include SYMS Construction Trading. NPA war materiel recovered in Camarines Norte —2ID
Authorities recovered war materiel of the New People's Army (NPA) during security operations in Barangay Malaya, Labo, Camarines Norte on Monday, the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) said. 'Recovered from the site were six M16A1 rifles, one AK47 rifle, a claymore-type Anti-Personnel Mine, and 195 rounds of live ammunition,' the 2ID said. 'The discovery of the arms cache prevented the possibility of these firearms being used in hostile actions against government forces and civilians in the area,' the military added. Citing information from the 201st Infantry Brigade, the 2ID said a concerned citizen gave the state forces information regarding the location of the supposed NPA arms cache in their community. This information led to the security operations of the 16th Infantry Battalion, 85th Infantry Battalion, and the Philippine National Police in the area. Chinese woman among 14 suspects nabbed in Paranaque scam hub raid
A Chinese woman were among the 14 suspects who were arrested during a raid of an alleged scam hub in Paranaque City, police said Sunday. In a press release, a team composed of operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group's Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU) and the Department of Justice–Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (DOJ-IACAT) served a search warrant at the Bayport West Garden Residences, located in NAIA Road, Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City on early Thursday morning. The operation targeted what was reported as an online task job hub and resulted in the arrest of 14 persons, including a Chinese woman and the rescue of a 17-year old female teenager. The suspects were allegedly engaged in scamming activities when they were caught. Authorities confiscated assorted information communication technology (ICT) devices, including 70 desktop computers, mobile phones, computer peripherals, a metal vault, dormitory pass IDs, and passports; and discovered cryptocurrency account numbers. The suspects are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9208 (Anti -Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by Republic Act 10364 (Expanded Human Trafficking Act of 2012) in relation to Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012); and Republic Act 12010 (Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA). The rescued minor was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for appropriate intervention and disposition. Online Task Job Scam Police said the scheme typically operates through the online messaging application 'Telegram' where the scammers send links to their intended victims. Each suspect is assigned to 600 Telegram accounts to contact potential victims. Once the link is accessed, the victims are directed to a so-called 'task job,' which assigns simple online tasks such as liking the pages of hotel packages. After the tasks are completed, the victims are instructed to open a Binance account - cryptocurrency account. Upon successfully creating the account, the scammers then require the victims to deposit funds into it. The victims are subsequently directed to transfer the deposited funds into a Binance account allegedly managed by the arrested Chinese manager. The scammers will lure victims that the transferred money will generate profit or collect interest, promising continuous growth of the investment. Once the victims are convinced to give a certain amount the suspects steal the money. "I commend the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU) and DOJ-IACAT for their swift and responsive action that resulted in the arrests of the suspects, and the rescue of the minor victim. This underscores our unyielding fight against trafficking in persons, child abuse, and cybercrimes. With this, we significantly prevented future 'online task job scam' from happening.
