ANOTHER beloved kids' TV show slapped with trigger warning from ITV for 'language of the period' in streaming crackdown
Another beloved kids' TV show has been slapped with a trigger warning from ITV for 'language of the period'.
Worzel Gummidge, created by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, first hit our screens on the channel in 1979 and wrapped up in 1981.
The show is based on Barbara Euphan Todd's books of the same name.
Worzel Gummidge has had 31 episodes across four series and follows the life a scarecrow who comes to life called Worzel Gummidge (Jon Pertwee).
The programme is available to watch on ITVX, but according to The Sun, a warning has been added to those who want to give it a go.
The warning says: 'Contains language of the period that may offend.'
Viewers are also suggested to turn on parental controls.
Some moments from the programme see Worzel and Sally calling each other names.
He tells her that he'll 'knock your silly wooden head off', and later calls her a 'worm-riddled old skittle'.
She later manages to hit him over the head with a shovel.
Jon is joined by Una Stubbs, Geoffrey Bayldon, Barbara Windsor, Bill Maynard and Lorraine Chase.
Another adaptation was released on BBC One in 2019.
The series boasted six episodes across two series and Mackenzie Crook took on the role of Worzel.
Meanwhile, another iconic BBC show has been slapped with 'discriminatory' trigger warnings, just one month after a 'lost' episode was re-released.
Doctor Who spin-off The Savages first aired back in 1966 and starred the first ever Time Lord William Hartnell, but has since been declared as 'missing from the archives' by the broadcaster.
However, an animated remake has recently been released on DVD, albeit with a string of warnings.
The British Board of Film Classification reportedly warned the show contained 'verbal references to discrimination and the discriminatory social structure of an alien society'.
It is listed as PG-rated and episodes carry references to 'mild threats,' 'scary scenes,' discrimination references,' and 'mild violence'.
Last year, Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor in the series, shared his dislike for trigger warnings on movies.
The actor said he used to walk into local video shops as a teenager and rent erotic thrillers, like Basic Instinct, to enjoy the scare-factor of the film - but now worries movies and programmes are being dialled down.
Matt claims the point of a 'thriller' or an 'uncomfortable' watch has been taken away through trigger warnings.
He told The Times: 'I worry everything's being dialled and dumbed down. We're telling audiences they're going to be scared before they've watched something.'
The House Of Dragons star added: 'Ah, trigger warnings — the tedious modern idea that adults cannot cope with being upset by art. Isn't being shocked, surprised, stirred the point?
'Too much policing of stories and being afraid to bring them out because a climate is a certain way is a shame. I'm not sure I'm on board with trigger warnings.'
He explained how after starring in family favourite Doctor Who he has actively pursued roles focusing on 'messed-up people' adding that 'that's the f***ing point. We should be telling morally difficult stories, nowadays in particular.'
Elsewhere BBC show Only Fools And Horses was slapped with a trigger warning some fans deemed 'excessively woke ' earlier this year.
The BBC show is known for being feel-good TV, but has become the latest sitcom to be issued with disclaimers around offensive or outdated language, according to The Sun.
All seven series of the 80s hit starring David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst and the late Lennard Pearce are on streaming platform ITVX.
However, many of the episodes have been hit with trigger warnings for racial and 'outdated attitudes'.
'The Russians are Coming' from series one was a fan favourite, but now features a disclaimer that reads: 'Contains some offensive racial language of the time.'
'The Yellow Peril' from the second series and 'Who's A Pretty Boy' from the third also feature a number of warnings now.

Two episodes in the fourth installment also have a warning, while 'The Miracle of Peckham' from series five warns of language that 'may offend'.
The only two series which did not receive a disclaimer of some kind are the sixth and seventh.
Even the 1985 Christmas special includes a message that says: 'Contains dated attitudes and behaviours and racist language some viewers may find offensive.'

Love Island Shake Up: New Rules As Execs Admit Show Has Got 'Boring'
Love Island is finally back on our screens for the summer, and if that's not exciting enough, the hit reality show celebrates its 10th birthday this year. Yep, it really has been ten years of watching glamorous singles live it up in the sun while trying to find love, and the Love Island season 12 cast certainly looks set to bring all the drama. Any show turning ten means it must have a pretty tried and tested formula. The downside of this is that it can end up becoming a bit repetitive, especially if, like us, you've avidly followed the show since it first aired. But fear not, because this year the rulebook is set to be shaken up with producers teasing a whole host of new twist and turns to keep us entertained. Speaking ahead of show's launch, Creative Director of the show Mike Spencer-Hayler, told the Mail they've had to 'tear up the rule book' this year, after viewing figures have dwindled after years of tame series of the reality show hit. 'We've seen the same things time and time again now and it's boring. We've got to move on. It felt static, and the show needs to feel fresh. People that come in, all do the same thing. Because they've all watched it time and time again. It became too formatted.' So what's in store for season 12? One of the key changes for season 12 is to do with the infamous hideaway. Mike told The Mail that ITV will broadcast intimate moments if and when they happen. This takes the show back to the early days when steamy scenes were common. This all changed in 2020 Ian Stirling confirmed that bosses had decided to censor sex scenes. 'The hideaway is open for business for 24 hours all the time, as long as they don't come with their partner,' Mike told the outlet. He also told The Mail that the villa is equipped with a new trampoline bed that 'would be good for throuples.' He continued: 'It can take the weight of four, we've checked. It's all about keeping the show fresh and exciting. And that's what we've got.' In last year's attempt to shake things up, former TOWIE star Joey Essex entered the villa. This year, Mike said we can't expect the same twist, but he teased there will be a different surprise. 'No former love islanders are coming in this year,' he said. Something big is coming in week one though. Not another reality star like Joey Essex. We've got a big week one planned. It's not a celebrity, but totally new.' Talking to The Sun, Mike seemed to hint that the Islanders could be faced with their exes: 'Do you know what I always say, the cast get released and then the ex's come forward. And that's how you get the bombshells.' There's even been some renovations to the villa itself in order to amp up the drama. Mike told The Mail the producers have shortened the walls of the terrace, which as any viewer will know, is a hotspot for spying on crushes and bombshells looking to couple up. 'The terrace walls are shorter and more see through now too. So you can see more up there. We just felt like it was too covered up. Extra gossip,' he said. It's no secret that the contestants are cooped up in the villa pretty much 24/7, meaning they do absolutely everything there. This is why one of the questions that's been asked many times is - why don't we ever see people eat proper meals? In previous seasons, we've only really seen the islanders snack or prepare their breakfasts in the outdoor kitchen. The contestants have their meals cooked for them by private chefs. ITV has confirmed they don't show contents eating because it's their downtime from having the cameras on them 24/7. They also said meals aren't filmed for technical reasons, like the sounds of eating with microphones. However, for season 12 the contestants will be shown eating meals for the first time ever. 'In this day and age, we need to be showing it,' said Mike. 'Viewers always ask us where and when the islanders eat lunch and dinner. Well this year you'll see it on camera now.' This could lead to even more good TV, as Mike admitted that sometimes juicy conversations come up between the islanders at mealtimes. 'There are chats that do happen whilst they eat,' he said. 'It might feature, it might not when it comes to the final edit, but there is a lot of whispering and there always has been. Sometimes it will affect how they might know information, because the viewer hasn't seen it. Now they will see it.'

Love Island casting comes under fire AGAIN after it's revealed star had TikTok account where he ‘secretly films women'
AXED Love Island hunk Kyle Ashman took part in 'misogynistic' videos with a pal where they secretly filmed women. The lad was struck from the dating show line-up earlier this week after it was revealed that he had been held and questioned by police over a machete attack at a wake. Now it has been revealed that he had a joint TikTok and YouTube page with a friend called Fin Musker. Whilst the joint pages have been wiped of content, a source has told The Sun that the videos involved them 'picking up girls and filming them without knowledge'. The source added that the videos 'displayed misogynistic behaviour towards women'. Some content still online shows Fin and Kyle out on the town, kissing women and speaking to them in bars. When approached about the videos, Kyle did not wish to comment. It raises further question marks about ITV's vetting process for its reality shows. Earlier this week Kyle was sent packing from Majorca after The Sun alerted show bosses that he had been arrested on suspicion of a machete attack and was only cleared by police last month - meaning he would've been in discussion with authorities whilst auditioning for Love Island. ITV chiefs sent him home from Majorca, plunging the show into chaos ahead of Monday's launch. A source said: 'All of the online content had been cleared so may not have come up on surface level checks, but for this kind of show far deeper trawls should be in place. 'ITV has steered clear of OnlyFans stars in the past and Kyle's link to one - particularly taking part in joint content of a misogynistic nature - is surely not in keeping with Love Island being a family show.' Love Island's Kyle Ashman reveals he wants show return as Casa Amor hunk after being axed over machete attack on dad ITV declined to comment. Ashman, 23, was one of two quizzed over a brutal machete attack at a wake in Stafford in February but was released with no further action. Sources said the channel was unaware of the incident and he was not flagged as part of contestant checks. The victim, 38, nearly lost his arm. He was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and kept in for around two weeks. Another mourner was glassed, one struck with a metal pole, and two people run over by a car during the 15 minutes of terror at a social club. Ashman, who lives in the town, was one of two men to be nicked on suspicion of affray then bailed. Police confirmed that after the matter had been investigated the pair were released with no further action only last month. Speaking after he was axed from the show, he said: "I'm not a bad guy, honestly. I'm a normal guy from a normal place. An opportunity arose to find love and I grabbed it with both hands, and it's been taken away from me. "I've seen the support pages and, who knows, maybe I'll get the chance to go on Casa Amor or as a bombshell, go back in and show you who I really am. Show you I'm not a bad guy. In the same year Women's Aid complained of contestant Joe Garratt's 'abusive' behaviour towards on-screen partner Lucie Donlan. She broke down in tears after he told her to stay away from the other lads. Ollie Williams left after three days in 2020 when he realised he still had feelings for his ex. But his exit came amid mounting pressure on bosses to remove him after pictures of him allegedly trophy hunting came to light. Salesman Haris Namani was dumped in 2023 after The Sun revealed footage of him in a street brawl. The show has also been accused of failing to look after islanders' mental health when filming stops. Sophie Gradon took her own life, aged 32, two years after she appeared on Love Island 2016. And Mike Thalassitis's suicide in 2019, at 26, prompted calls for better after-care by reality shows. In 2022, watchdog Ofcom received 3,600 complaints in a week over alleged misogynistic behaviour by some of the male contestants.
