Browns reporter shares his side of viral Shedeur Sanders confrontation
Gossi was confronted by the Browns' rookie quarterback after the latter impressed during his debut with Cleveland.
'Tony, I be hoping you have something positive to say about me,' Sanders told Grossi in a video posted to Deion Sanders Jr.'s YouTube account. 'You only say negative stuff about me. And I'm like, 'I ain't do nothing to you.''

'I ain't hear nothing positive you've ever said,' Sanders said with a smile.
'What I do to you, Tony?' Sanders said with a laugh as he walked away.
On Monday, the reporter addressed the situation on his self-titled 'The Daily Grossi' show on ESPN Cleveland, saying that he was surprised by Sanders' comments, although the conversation was 'good-natured.'
'One thing to note was that I initiated the conversation,' Grossi said, via Awful Announcing. 'He left the podium to walk to the locker room and I called his name to ask him another question. And that's when he discussed what was on his mind. I was a little surprised he went into that because as I said, it was inaudible but I said, 'Hey, this is your night man. This is a big night for you, have fun.' But I appreciated the fact that he did not say what was on his mind from the podium, which other quarterbacks have done with me, which is very uncomfortable.'

The YouTube video of the back-and-forth being posted by Sanders' half-brother also took Rossi by surprise.
'I didn't appreciate the fact that this interaction was filmed without my knowledge,' Grossi said. 'It turns out, it was his brother, who is documenting everything from his rookie season. That's fine, just now that I'm aware of it, I'll be a little more careful and everything. But everybody that saw the video, it was good-natured. I don't know what caused us to laugh, I really can't recall that conversation precisely. But we went on good terms.
'We had a couple [of] other words in the locker room, too. But I was a little surprised that, on his big night, and it was a big night for him with all of the circumstances, that he would raise this. That's why I thought he was joking. It shouldn't have been that big of a deal on his mind after his big night. Anyways, all is good. We saw each other today at practice, and we move on.'

The exchange came just minutes after Sanders' press conference following a 138 passing yard, two-touchdown performance in a 30-10 win over the Panthers.
After the game, Grossi offered the first-year signal-caller the praise he asked for.
'I thought Shedeur was outstanding,' he said during an appearance on ESPN Cleveland afterwards.
He later wrote: 'My bottom line on Shedeur Sanders' impressive debut: He put the pressure on QB2 Kenny Pickett and QB3 Dillon Gabriel to get healthy and perform next week.'

Why is Rashee Rice's case being delayed?
On July 17, Vikings receiver Jordan Addison resolved a DUI citation by pleading guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge, with no jail time. He'll miss the first three games of the regular season. On July 17, Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice pleaded guilty to a pair of felonies arising from a street racing crash that was caught on video, and that caused multiple injuries. He'll serve 30 days and spend five years on probation. And he'll be on the field for at least the first four games of the season, because his disciplinary hearing won't happen until September 30. It makes no sense. And it's making some wonder whether someone wants Rice to be available for a quartet of high-profile Kansas City games to start the season. From Week 1 against the Chargers in Brazil on YouTube to Week 2 against the Eagles at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox to Week 3 against the Giants on NBC's Sunday Night Football to Week 4 against the Ravens at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS, Rice is now good to go. Given that his hearing will happen on Tuesday, September 30, he'll most likely be available for Week 5, a Monday night visit to Jacksonville on ESPN and ABC. As one league source observed, it usually doesn't work this way. With the player pleading guilty in the offseason, there's usually an urgency to finalize his discipline and have it begin before Week 1. 'Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist,' the source said, 'but this is odd.' Added the source, 'You hardly ever see players get suspended in season unless they did something in season like a drug test or something.' Here, there's no dispute. Rice pleaded guilty. The question is only the extent of the punishment. Why didn't the league expedite the case? If all else fails, put him on paid leave until the case is resolved, and give him credit for the games he misses after the final punishment is issued. At a time when many think the league favors the Chiefs, situations like this will not become evidence to the contrary. If anything, it looks like the dominos have fallen in a way to ensure that Rice will be available for four, and likely five, high-profile games to be played on YouTube, CBS, NBC, Fox, and ESPN/ABC.

Why John Mateer could win the Heisman Trophy
Josh Pate explains why he believes the Oklahoma quarterback will step into the national spotlight this season and take home college football's top individual honor. Subscribe to 'Josh Pate's College Football Show' on YouTube. View more Video Transcript I have an announcement, breaking news about John Mattier, Oklahoma quarterback, and sports betting. And the breaking news about John Mattier Oklahoma quarterback and sports betting has nothing to do with Venmo. It actually has nothing to do with him placing any bet. It has to do with the fact that I. Joshua D. Pate have bet John fill in the blank, don't know his middle name Mattier to win the Heisman Trophy this year, and I have placed a substantial amount of money on this and I did not do it via Venmo. I did it the old fashioned way, fan due, uh, which I recommend a lot of people ought to look into that. A lot of people ought to look into that. There are doubters obviously about John Mattier. Some people doubt his level of competition before he got here with good reason, played glorified Mountain West teams last year. Uh, some of them question his mechanics. OK. I am telling you that. I don't doubt him at all. I think he could be a game wrecker in the SEC, so I've got many reasons why I believe in him, but did you know? Did you know that Cam Ward and then after him John Mattier last year looked very, very similar statistically? In fact Mattier led the country in total touchdowns last year. He's a great runner that you don't see a lot in the highlight film, great runner, but anyway, here's why I'm high on him. I think that they, Oklahoma, uh, I think they have a couple of early opportunities. Uh, Michigan comes in town week two. Auburn comes in town a couple of weeks later. They got great opportunities at home for him to shine. They got an opportunity to be 5-0 when they go play Texas. I think they will be 5-0 when they go play Texas, at which point the talk is no longer Brent. Venables' hot seat or will this Washington State transfer pan out? Who is Ben Arbuckle? You'll know that quarterback's a stud that offensive coordinator is a stud. Brent Venables is holding it down on defense, and that leads us to the Red River shootout, a game known by no name other than that on this show. Where you've got John Mattier against the Heisman Trophy favorite, and at that point our balls are in his court. At that point, it's up to him to show out that day. Now, it may be that they beat Texas and, at that point, it's a runaway train. It may be that they lose to Texas and get blown out, and my ticket's dead in the water. There could be like a 38-35 game where no one's Heisman Trophy hopes are dead, and instead the talk is, oh, these teams could face off again. I think he's gonna show out in the first half of the season that will make him part of a huge turnaround. People will be talking about, uh, coach of the year type stuff. They'll be talking about Broyles Award contention for Ben Arbuckle. They'll be talking about Heisman contention and all the quarterback awards for John Matteer. I think he's got the intangibles, the stuff that they say you can't coach, the stuff that you just gotta be born with: the competitiveness, the fire, the juice, the ability to make a program in a room full of guys rally around you, he's got it. I'm telling you he's got it. I'm telling you he's got the ability to not so much struggle adjusting to the league, but he's got that kind of ability that makes the league adjust to him. I believe in him. I'm betting him to win the Heisman Trophy, and so that is my big sports betting-related news around John Matteer. Close
