Olympic Tennis Champ Zheng Says Elbow Surgery 'Successful'
'Over the past months I've been dealing with persistent pain in my right elbow during training and matches. Despite trying various treatments to manage it, the discomfort never fully went away,' the right-handed player said in an Instagram post. 'After consulting with elbow specialists and discussing thoroughly with my team, we decided that arthroscopic surgery was the best option to fully resolve the issue. Yesterday I underwent the procedure successfully, and I'm grateful to have it behind me.'
Zheng wrote she'll be recovering over the next few weeks and months.

Caitlin Clark not expected to play when Indiana Fever resume season Tuesday at New York
Caitlin Clark is not expected to be available on Tuesday night when Indiana resumes its season at the defending champion New York Liberty, Fever coach Stephanie White said. Clark missed Indiana's final game before the All-Star break with an injured right groin and pulled out of Friday night's 3-point contest as well as Saturday's All-Star Game. Clark told reporters on Saturday night that she had been getting treatment during the festivities, which also took place in Indianapolis. She was injured in the final minute of Tuesday's victory at Connecticut. While she is improving, White said the Fever intend to be cautious with Clark, who missed 10 games during the first half of the season with three different muscle injuries. She's going to see some doctors and get more tests early in the week, White said. I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to take it one day at a time and let her get evaluations early this week, and then once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear vision of what it looks like. Clark never missed a game because of injury during her college career at Iowa or last season when she was selected the WNBA's Rookie of the Year. The two-time All-Star is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season for a team that was expected to contend for a league championship. But Clark's injuries and other obstacles have kept the Fever hovering near the middle of the standings with a 12-11 mark. These soft tissue injuries sometimes nag until you can actually have time to really allow to heal in the offseason, White said.

Dodgers' Freddie Freeman day to day after being hit on the wrist by a pitch
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman left Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers after being hit by a pitch on his left wrist in the sixth inning. Manager Dave Roberts said Freeman is day to day with a left wrist contusion. 'I held my breath,' Roberts said. 'I think we all did because you know when you're scuffling and to potentially lose a guy for four to six weeks is obviously very scary. But you know, exhale, sigh of relief after hearing that it (the X-ray) was negative.' Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana threw an 88 mph sinker that ran inside and hit Freeman in the wrist as he attempted to hold up a partial swing. Freeman immediately walked toward the dugout, stopped briefly to speak with Roberts and a team trainer, and proceeded down the dugout steps and into the tunnel. Freeman broke his left wrist in 2017 after being hit by a pitch with the Atlanta Braves. 'He just doesn't come out of games,' Roberts said. 'And so I didn't know why he was walking toward me. Then hearing him saying that it was his wrist and can't continue, yeah (I was) really worried.' Roberts said the team will follow up with Freeman on Monday before determining when he will play again. Hyeseong Kim replaced Freeman as a pinch-runner, and Miguel Rojas took over at first base the following inning.

Alonso (Hand) sits for Mets, putting team-record consecutive games streak in jeopardy
Pete Alonso didn't start Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds because of a right hand contusion, putting in jeopardy the New York Mets All-Star first baseman's team record for consecutive games played. Manager Carlos Mendoza said Alonso – whose 353 consecutive games played are the second-most in the majors behind Atlanta first baseman Matt Olson (717 games) – told him he felt the discomfort in his hand following his second at-bat Saturday when Alonso flew out in the third inning of New York's 5-2 loss. 'He got jammed a couple times and it just got worse,' Mendoza said Sunday. X-rays on the hand were negative, and Alonso had treatment before the series finale. Mendoza said he hoped Alonso, whose streak of 205 consecutive starts dating back to May 31, 2024, ended, would be available off the bench. 'When you're dealing with a hand injury, we thought it was best to get ahead of ourselves here because it can linger,' Mendoza said. 'Hopefully he's a player for us.' Alonso hasn't missed a game since June 17, 2023, the final day of a 10-day stint on the injured list because of a left wrist bone bruise and sprain suffered when he was plunked by the Atlanta Braves' Charlie Morton. Mark Vientos started at first base, his first appearance at the position since July 14, 2024. Alonso, who remained on the free agent market last winter until signing a two-year deal worth 54 million with an opt-out following this season on Feb. 12, is hitting .276 with 21 homers and a team-high 77 RBIs. But he is batting just .223 with four homers and 14 RBIs in his last 30 games, during which the Mets have gone 10-20 to fall out of first place in the NL East. Alonso has 247 regular-season homers, five shy of Darryl Strawberry's team record.
