The Citizen03-05-2025

Electricity problems in Empangeni CBD have been nothing short of shocking after an almost week-long problem of outages earlier this month.

No explosion, says Tronox after loud bang prompts evacuation

No explosion, says Tronox after loud bang prompts evacuation A LOUD bang at Tronox KZN Sands caused alarm among Empangeni residents earlier this afternoon (Saturday). The noise reported at around 4pm, followed by the sounding of an emergency siren, sparked social media speculation of an 'explosion' at the company's Central Processing Complex (CPC). ALSO READ: R100k reward to catch fugitive linked to missing Sodwana skipper 'Kindly note the current social media reports circulating about an 'explosion' at CPC and an evacuation. Please note there has been no serious incident,' reassured a company spokesperson. 'A tea cup with excess mould coating likely caused a loud 'pop' sound when slag was tapped into it. While the sound was loud, it's a harmless reaction.' 'Given that there's currently a furnace reline in progress and many contractors on site, the shift supervisor evacuated the plant as a precaution to carry out inspections.' 'There is no cause for concern,' the company confirmed. Don't have the ZO app? Download it to your Android or Apple device here: HAVE YOUR SAY Like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Rescue puppies bring pawsitive energy to yoga event

People gathered at K9 Classroom on Saturday to take part in a Puppy Yoga event that was organised by two animal lovers, Bonine Cronje and Barbara Roux in collaboration with Place a Pup, a non-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes puppies. The event was serene and emotionally uplifting as participants rolled out their yoga mats in preparation. They were given wireless headphones through which they listened to the yoga instructor's directions and calming background music. The puppies ran around in excitement, stealing hearts and getting pats, pets, and hugs from the participants throughout the day. People were left feeling more relaxed, emotionally lighter, and deeply connected – not just to the animals, but to themselves and the community around them. To ensure the puppies' safety, volunteers from both Place a Pup and K9 Classroom monitored the pups throughout the session to ensure they were comfortable and free to explore at their own pace. According to Barbara, the feedback from participants was amazing. Many described the experience as soothing, unique, and joyful. Other guests even expressed interest in adopting a puppy, which is one of the event's most meaningful outcomes. 'Place a Pup was recently given a notice to vacate the premises they rent,' Barbara says. 'Our next goal is to help them raise funds for a permanent home through their BackaBuddy campaign.' NEW: Kaizer Chiefs back targeting star Bafana Bafana winger!

Kaizer Chiefs are determined to boost their attack ahead of next season, and with international quality stars. Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has made it his personal mission to go out and get the top attackers he needs. One of the things Chiefs have failed to get in the past seasons are goals. Nabi had been lamenting the lack of final product in his squad throughout his debut season at the club. It is then no surprise to see him linked with players Fiston Mayele, who finished top scorer in the CAF Champions League. He is also a DRC international and a winner of that competition with FC Pyramids. It has also been said that Nabi went and convinced another long-term target in Feisal Salum to join. The player has a very good record scoring goals and also making assists in Tanzania. The player Nabi coached both players while at Yanga SC, and is hoping to use his positive relationship to lure both. Now that isn't expected to be all for Chiefs. Rumours out of Tunisia claim they've reignited their interest in Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana. Tunisian publication Nessma Sport claim that Chiefs have shown interest in signing Mokwana from Esperance. They say that the club are awaiting a decision from from the club hierarchy before deciding on his future. With the blood and gold set to head off to the FIFA Club World Cup, any decision is expected to be taken after. Playing in the tournament in the USA would've clearly been part if the pull for the winger. It is no secret that Chiefs were interested in signing Mokwana last season, and had a bid turned down. The player recently spoke out about a potential move to Amakhosi in future, leaving the door wide open. Chiefs fans, would signing Mokwana be a huge statement of intent from the club?
