Insider claims Lakers are talking to Heat about Andrew Wiggins
There has been lots of talk about the Los Angeles Lakers' dire need for one or two serviceable centers and the centers they could or should go after. But they also have a need for an impactful two-way wing who can effectively guard perimeter players.
With Jimmy Butler long gone from the Miami Heat, they could at least be open to trading Andrew Wiggins, the main piece they got back from the Golden State Warriors in the trade that sent Butler to Golden State. Wiggins has been a borderline star wing for several years, and he was an All-Star starter three years ago who played a key role in Golden State's most recent NBA championship.
Lakers reporter Anthony Irwin said on Tuesday that the team "checked in on" Wiggins. On Wednesday, he wrote in an article for ClutchPoints that discussions between the two teams regarding the 30-year-old have progressed.
"The Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat have maintained further negotiations on a trade involving Andrew Wiggins, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity," Irwin wrote.
According to Irwin, forward Rui Hachimura could be the player the Lakers are trying to center a package around.
"The Heat would be looking to land Rui Hachimura and his expiring contract, plus further expiring money to match salaries."
But Irwin noted that there is still work to do if this trade is to actually take place.
"After reporting the Lakers checked in with the Heat about Wiggins' price, sources tell ClutchPoints that trade talks have advanced to the next step, though nothing is considered imminent as of right now."
Wiggins averaged 18.0 points and 5.8 3-point attempts a game while hitting 37.4% of those 3-point attempts this season. He can guard multiple positions, and he possesses ample athleticism.
He was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James was about to return to the team, but he was subsequently sent away in a three-team trade that brought Cleveland Kevin Love.

What to know ahead of the first round of the NASCAR in-season tournament at Atlanta
NASCAR's first in-season tournament begins Saturday night at Atlanta. The Quaker State 400 is the first race of the five that will make up the head-to-head contest. Dubbed the 'In-Season Challenge' the winner of the tournament will receive $1 million — the same amount given to the winner of the All-Star Race — and was implemented after the idea was floated by Denny Hamlin on his podcast a year ago. Advertisement Coincidentally, Hamlin is the No. 1 seed for the tournament. He's got Ty Dillon in the first round. The tournament field includes 32 drivers who are paired against each other via their seeds for Saturday night's race. The highest-finishing driver in each matchup moves on. If Hamlin finishes fifth and Dillon is 25th, Hamlin is on to the next round. With 36 full-time drivers in the Cup Series, the field for the tournament was determined via the top 32 drivers in the points standings after the Nashville race. Over the last three races, the seeds were determined via average finish. Hamlin got the top seed for the tournament because he had the best average finish at Michigan, Mexico City and Pocono. However, Hamlin did expose a possible flaw in NASCAR's seeding process. He missed the Mexico City race for the birth of his son and only competed in two of the three races. Missing the race didn't cost Hamlin at all in the seeding process. While other drivers' seeds were determined via an average of three races, Hamlin's seed was only from his win at Michigan and his second-place finish at Pocono. Advertisement After Atlanta, the second round will happen during the street race in Chicago on July 6 and the quarterfinals will occur at Sonoma. The final two races of the in-season tournament will be held at Dover and Indianapolis, and the champion will be crowned at the Brickyard. All five races of the in-season tournament will be broadcast on TNT. The network returns to NASCAR television coverage this season for the five races before NBC takes over for the rest of the season. Here's a look at the seeds and the 16 first-round matchups taking place at Atlanta. NASCAR In-Season Challenge first-round matchups

Yankees' Aaron Boone Makes Uninspiring Devin Williams Playing Decision
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees traded Nestor Cortes and Claeb Durbin for All-Star closer Devin Williams in the offseason. Williams struggled early in his Yankees tenure, but has settled back into the closer role. Williams had an 11.25 ERA through his first 10 games as a Yankee. He was stripped of closer duties in favor of Luke Weaver. Williams started playing better and was thrust back into the closer role when Weaver went to the injured list. Since then, he has a 1.17 ERA and five saves in eight games. However, Aaron Boone still does not seemingly trust him to give the Yankees more than one inning. On Tuesday, Williams threw just nine pitches in the ninth inning. However, Boone did not send him out for the 10th inning, and he revealed that Williams will not be used like that in the future either. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 03: Devin Williams #38 of the New York Yankees throws a pitch during the ninth inning of the game against the Cleveland Guardians at Yankee Stadium on June 03,... NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JUNE 03: Devin Williams #38 of the New York Yankees throws a pitch during the ninth inning of the game against the Cleveland Guardians at Yankee Stadium on June 03, 2025 in New York City. More"Look, he's here as kind of a one-inning guy and that's what he's done the last couple years," Boone said, per the New York Post's Greg Joyce. "I think there's going to be a time when there's a four-out scenario, but I'm not prepared right now to send him out there for a two-inning outing." Unlike Williams, Boone has used Weaver for two-inning outings multiple times this year. Williams is a two-time All-Star and two-time Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year. Most of his success has come as a one-inning pitcher, either setting up Josh Hader on the Milwaukee Brewers or as their closer. "I feel like the bullpen works better when guys are going one inning," Williams said, per the New York Post. Regardless of how the Yankees use Williams, it is good for the team that he is pitching well again. He is one of the best relievers in baseball when he's at his best, and borderline unhittable. The five-star shined in the 1-on-1 portion of Tuesday's camp, then took it to a different level as the most productive pass-catcher out of the backfield in 7-on-7 play. Miami is working toward inking the No. 1 class in the country and intends to keep Cooper in South Florida. Georgia and Ohio State are working feverishly to buck the Canes' momentum on the recruiting trail. Osborne will be playing a lot of football inside the state of Indiana over the next few years. The Texas-based blue-chipper pledged to Notre Dame last month and showcased his three-down skill-set this week at the Rivals Five-Star. Osborne was fantastic as a pass-catcher, an area of his game less utilized on Friday nights. The Irish verbal is a three-down back that can bash between the tackles and be a workhorse on early downs and also contribute in the passing game. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NOTRE DAME FANS AT Cowley stood out as one of the backs with the best top-end speed in Indianapolis. The 2027 four-star out of Alabama was smooth in and out of breaks, had soft hands and fantastic wiggle and acceleration with the ball in his hands between various positional drills, 1-on-1 competition and in the 7-on-7 setting. Auburn is trending up with the in-state blue-chipper, who returned to The Plains earlier this month. Hugh Freeze has been superb keeping top-end talent such as Cowley in-state since arriving at Auburn and has a strong chance to repeat in this one, too. Robinson is another blue-chip running back in the 2027 class. The bruiser from Mississippi is a force in the running game – able to eat up chunk yardage and run downhill at a high clip. During the week in Indy, Robinson also showcased another aspect of his game – his pass-catching skills and ability to separate in coverage. We love the three-down skill-set for Robinson and so does Tennessee. The Vols are setting the pace in the 2027 four-star back's recruitment ahead of Oklahoma State and Mississippi State.
