When the trio denied to the accusations, the duo assaulted and abused the former. In the melee, the daughter-in-law bit off Kothari's ear and attacked him twice with a weapon.
The complainant was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital, and he needed five stitches to his ear and two stitches on the stomach. Sub-inspector Pravin Kulkarni said that a first information report (FIR) has been filed, and the accused have been booked under Bharati Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 115 (2),118 (1) and 3(5).

An armed man barged into a ladies Paying Guest accommodation situated at Judicial layout in Yelahanka, and sexually harassed a 30-year-old Assistant Engineer at knife point and escaped after robbing her two phones on Monday (August 11) afternoon. On the day of the incident, the victim returned from work and went up to her room situated on the third floor. She heard a knock on the door around 3 p.m. and opened the door, assuming that it could be the staff. The accused barged in, overpowered her and placed a knife at her neck demanding money and the gold bangles she was wearing. He forcibly tried to remove the bangles and sexually harassed her. The victim told him that the money was in the vanity bag kept on the bed. By the time he went to grab the bag, the victim ran into the washroom and locked it from inside, raising an alarm for help. Sensing trouble, the accused grabbed two mobile phones, worth ₹75,000, lying on the bed and escaped. After waiting for sometime, the victim came out of the room and narrated the incident to her fellow PG mates before alerting the police. The police rushed to the spot and conducted investigations, before registering a case against unknown person under Section 311 (robbery or dacoity when accompanied by an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of BNS for further investigation. The police are verifying the CCTV footage and questioning the PG staff about the security and safety measures they have as per the rules. Safety concerns This incident has raised concerns about the safety of people living in PG accommodations in and around the city. On August 2, the Soladevanahalli police had arrested a PG owner, Ashraf, for allegedly abducting and raping a student on the pretext of taking her out for dinner.

Painter hacked to death in Udupi home, police link to revenge plot; 3 in arrested
UDUPI: A painter was hacked to death inside his Udupi home late on Tuesday, allegedly in a revenge attack carried out by three men armed with sharp weapons. The deceased is Vinay Devadiga, 40. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said Soumya Shri, 31, of Puttur village, Subrahmanya Nagar, stated that Vinay left for Udupi at 10am on Tuesday and returned around 6.30pm. When she came home at 8.30pm, she found his phone ringing continuously, which their daughter had put on silent. Around 9.30pm, when Soumya Shri asked Vinay to have dinner, he said he had some work outside, but she urged him to go the next day. He agreed, and by 10pm, the couple, their daughter, and Vinay's mother had gone to bed in separate rooms. At 11:15 p.m., the complainant heard the sound of the gate opening, followed by loud banging on the door. She woke her mother-in-law, and when they opened the door, three men, including Akshendra, Ajith, and an unidentified person, entered. She claimed that she knew Akshendra and Ajith. The men tied the complainant's hands behind her back and kept asking for Vinay. She told them he was not home, but they ignored her and entered the house. She alleged that Akshendra was armed with a machete, Ajith with a long knife, and the third man with a knife. They searched the house for Vinay. The complainant pleaded with them to leave and speak the next day, but they ignored her. When they opened the door to a room opposite the hall, Vinay, who was inside, woke up. The attackers tried to snatch his phone. Ajith allegedly grabbed Vinay tightly to prevent his escape, while Akshendra hit him on the head with the machete, and the third man attacked him with the knife. She claimed that Vinay suffered deep cuts to his head, both arms, and forearms, leading to severe bleeding. He died on the spot. Their daughter left the room in fear. The attackers then fled the scene on a scooter at around 11:30 p.m. A case was registered at Udupi Town Police Station under Sections 329(4), 103(1) read with 3(5) of the BNS. Three Arrested SP Hariram Shankar said three accused, Akshendra alias Akshay, 34, Ajith, 28, and Pradeep Acharya, 29, from Kokkarne, Brahmavar, surrendered at the police station and were arrested. The third accused, Pradeep Acharya, was earlier an accused in a murder case reported at Bramhavar Police station in 2016. Preliminary investigation reveals that the murder was an act of revenge after Vinay allegedly shared a video in which accused Akshendra was being verbally abused by someone. The deceased Vinay himself was the prime accused in a murder case reported in Malpe police station in 2020 and was currently out on court bail, with the trial ongoing. Kendrapara (Odisha), Aug 13 (PTI) Police on Wednesday arrested four more persons for their alleged involvement in the gangrape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in Odisha's Kendrapara district. The prime accused was identified as Happy Mallick, the class 10 student's paternal aunt. All five have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. While Mallick has already been sent to jail after a local court rejected her bail application, the four others will be produced in court later in the day, police said. Police said the accused also recorded the assault on video. According to the FIR, the survivor alleged that her relative visited their residence on Raksha Bandhan (August 9) and offered to take her to a temple in a nearby village. Instead, she was taken to a deserted spot, where four others were waiting, and was gang-raped. 'It seemed that the crime was pre-planned and the relative of the girl was the main accused,' a police officer said. The accused allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to her family.
