Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressed a large crowd at a rally, praising the Prime Minister for giving a green light for a caste census in the poll-bound state. The applause from attendees soon turned into peels of laughter owing to a slip-up by the Janata Dal (United) chief - "Whatever Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee...sorry, he had served earlier...for whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing for you, let's give him a standing ovation".
At a rally in Rohtas district on Friday, Mr Kumar called the caste-based census a "historic step" and a long-standing demand he had championed. He thanked PM Modi for his "unwavering" support in Bihar's development journey and urged the gathered crowd to stand up and raise their hands in collective gratitude to PM Modi.
The Chief Minister also used the occasion to highlight the transformation of Bihar since 2005, citing improvements in infrastructure, health, education, and governance. "Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, the pace of development in Bihar has accelerated," he added, positioning the state as a model of growth under NDA governance.
The event, part of PM Modi's two-day visit to Bihar, witnessed the launch and inauguration of development projects worth over Rs 48,500 crore. During the rally, PM Modi announced the inauguration and foundation laying of key development projects spanning sectors like infrastructure, transport, agriculture, aviation, and food processing.

11 dead in stampede at RCB's IPL victory celebrations in Bengaluru
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team's IPL victory celebrations event in Bengaluru on Wednesday turned into a major tragedy with at least 11 persons confirmed dead and about 47 persons injured in a stampede outside of Chinnaswamy Stadium near Vidhana Soudha. As Chief Minister Siddaramaiah led the first round of felicitation of the RCB stars on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, trouble was brewing close by which the administration failed to anticipate. Crowds had swelled outside of the stadium with little or no control on the movement of people. It looked like a sea of humanity with hundreds of thousands of people over a kilometre or two. The joy and loud cheers of ecstatic cricket fans that began Tuesday night after the team lifted the cup continued well into Wednesday and reached its peak soon after the RCB players landed in Bengaluru. With an overworked policemen split between Vidhana Soudha and the stadium, they could barely control the alarming surge in numbers leading to stampedes at many places. 'Several fans were already being crushed under the feet of other people around the same time the official felicitation was going on,' one person said. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery.' Probe ordered, Rs 10 lakh for families of deceased The Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 people who lost their lives and free medical treatment for the injured. 'a moment of joy has been eclipsed by sorrow,' he said while condoling the death of people. Most of the deceased are youth, he said at a media conference, while adding that around 2-3 lakh people had gathered at the stadium and another one lakh at Vidhana Souhda. The CM also ordered a magisterial probe the report of which would be available in two weeks, he said. 'Precautionary measures were taken by not allowing a victory parade, but the crowd surge near the stadium led to this tragedy,' he said. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said they wrapped up the official reception event at Vidhana Soudha in 10 minutes to help crowds disperse faster and to prevent congestion. The fact that the IPL victory came after 18 long years of wait added to the excitement of boisterous cricket fans who choked out the roads leading to the stadium gates to have a glimpse of their favourite stars at public events. People could barely move around though the police made repeated announcements to leave for safety. As people jostled and elbowed out against each other, many just got squeezed and gave up. There were scenes of people trying to revive those struggling to breathe, and several shifted to nearby hospitals. Citizens attacked the government for a lack of planning and for permitting the mega event so close to the day of victory as fans had gone crazy. Some felt the stadium event could have taken place after a day or two after a sense of calm settled.

PM to launch mega ‘Aravalli Green Wall project' on June 5
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) India will kick start its ambitious Aravalli Green Wall Project on World Environment Day on June 5 in a bid to give a new lease of life to one of the oldest mountains of the world ie Aravalli range which is facing rapid degradation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the project by planting a Banyan sapling under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in the national capital, a step to prevent desertification and land degradation caused by global warming. On the occasion, the Prime Minister will also flag off 200 electric buses under Delhi Government's sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolizing the nation's collective responsibility towards ecological balance, said a statement here. Aiming to create a 400 km long and 5 km wide green corridor covering states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi, India had introduced the Aravalli Green Wall project at the 16th Conference of Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh in 2019. The Union Environment Ministry had released the project's action plan in March. The project envisages boostING biodiversity of the Aravalli Hill Region and is a major initiative to spread green cover in the 5 km buffer area around the Range in 29 districts of the four states, according to the statement. Besides, reforestation and afforestation and rejuvenation of water bodies, the project aims to improve the soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience of the region. The project will also benefit the local communities by providing them with employment and income generation opportunities. In the initial phase, 75 water bodies will be rejuvenated, starting with five waterbodies each in every district of Aravalli landscape, said an official from the Ministry. The plan is inspired by Africa's 'Great Green Wall' project, running from Senegal (West) to Djibouti (East), which came into effect in 2007. 11 Dead, 20 Injured in Bengaluru Stadium Stampede During RCB Victory Celebrations
Bengaluru: A tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed the lives of at least 11 people and left over 20 injured on Wednesday as thousands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans gathered to celebrate the team's maiden IPL title. According to initial reports, chaos erupted when the stadium crew kept the outer gates shut despite mounting crowds outside. The gates were reportedly opened at the last moment, triggering a surge as over 600 fans rushed into the outer precincts. The resulting panic led to a stampede in which six men and four women lost their lives. The crowd had begun assembling since early morning, hoping to catch a glimpse of the winning team arriving with the IPL trophy. Roads around the stadium and key areas in the Central Business District were blocked as fans converged from across the city, many arriving by metro and on foot. The RCB team was earlier felicitated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar at Vidhana Soudha. The team was scheduled to make an appearance at the stadium later in the day. According to state BJP president B Y Vijayendra, this was a failure of the government, 'we had told the government not to hold such a large event without proper planning. But the government was adamant on holding it on Wednesday just a day after the RCB team won the championship." According to a report, there were only 100 policemen in an area where over 50,000 people had gathered, and police force was outnumbered drastically. The road from Raj Bhavan, Ambedkar Veedhi, Queens Road, MG Road, GPO, Cubbon Park KR circle, The approach to Anil Kumble circle from Kasturba road, Kamraj road, St Marks road, cubbon road were completely blocked with RCB fans. According to an estimation, over 2 lakh- 3 lakh people had tried to reach the Chinnaswamy injured in the stampede were rushed to Bowring Hospital, including several minors and elderly fans. Authorities are probing the incident, and questions are being raised about crowd management and security preparedness. Addressing a press conference Chief minister S Siddramiah has announced a compensation of Rs. 10 each to all the persons who have died and free treatment to people who have injured at Bowring hospital as well as the private faciliteis. He said thankfully nobody among the injured are critical. 'We are shocked that this incident has happened at a time when the city must be celebrating, but the crowd participation was too much in number while the Chinnaswamy stadium had space limited to 35,000 people. I have also ordered an inquiry headed by a magistrate level official into the incident. We will bring those people responsible for this tragedy to the book. The CM explaining the conditions that prevailed at the Chinnaswamy stadium said 'The gates were smaller and old and the facility could not handle 2-3 lakh people surging at it was totally unexpected. I have ordered the Bengaluru Urban Deputy commissioner to give a report to him followed by the magisterial enquiry in next fifteen days' The CM squarely blamed the Karnataka State Cricket Association for wrongly assessing the gravity of the situation. 'The KSCA functionaries had requested to hold the event today (Wednesday) for their own reasons, even KSCA might not have foreseen such a crowd surge' The CM said. 'This was not a government event but we obliged the KSCA's request. We had acted only as a facilitator with security and other law support' he added.
