Harvey Weinstein to face third trial on sexual assault charges
Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein will face a third trial in New York in connection to the sexual assault case of actor Jessica Mann.
New York Judge Curtis Farber said Wednesday that the trial will take place before the end of 2025.
A jury was unable in June to come to a verdict on a rape charge that alleged Weinstein sexually assaulted Mann but did find him guilty of sexually assaulting former "Project Runway" production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006, and not guilty of assaulting former runway model Kaja Sokola that same year.
The judge announced he would not sentence Weinstein on the conviction involving Haley until Weinstein is retried for the charge related to Mann, who has alleged Weinstein raped her in 2013.
Weinstein was slated to be sentenced on Sept. 30 for the guilty verdict in Haley's case, which means unless he pleads guilty to the charge that involves Mann, or either he is tried before September or prosecutors drop that charge, he's likely to have that sentencing date postponed.
Weinstein, the co-founder of film studios Miramax and The Weinstein Company, was originally convicted of rape and criminal sexual act in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison for the crimes.
However, New York's state Court of Appeals overturned his conviction after finding the jury in the 2020 trial was prejudiced by the judge of that trial who allowed women with unrelated allegations to testify.
Weinstein was also found guilty by a Los Angeles jury of sexual assault and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
He is currently appealing against that conviction and has denied all of the charges lodged against him. Weinstein has been held in custody in New York's Rikers Island jail.

"From the Start" appears on Laufey's second studio album, titled Bewitched. Laufey also performed "Lover Girl," a track from her upcoming third studio album, titled A Matter of Time. Laufey is set to release A Matter of Time on August 22. The album will also include the singles "Snow White," "Silver Lining" and "Tough Luck." Laufey will be promoting the album with a new tour that begins Sept. 15 in Orlando and wraps up Oct. 27 in Boston.

Police: Suspected suicide attempt was just trucker trying to cool off
Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Police, firefighters and paramedics responded in force to the Moerdijk Bridge in the Netherlands, where they discovered a reported suicide attempt was actually just a trucker trying to cool off. Dordrecht Police wrote on social media that helicopter units responded alongside firefighters, EMS personnel and the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution after a man was reported to have parked his truck on the shoulder of the A16 highway and jumped from the bridge into the Hollands Diep river. The responders arrived to find the man had made his way to a ladder, where he hailed a passing boat and got a lift back to shore. The jump was initially reported to be a suicide attempt, but the man gave police a different story. "The Hungarian truck driver thought it was a beautiful, warm, summer evening just like we did," police wrote. "When he arrived at the Moerdijk Bridge, he thought it was time to cool off." The driver parked his truck on the highway shoulder and jumped off the bridge for a quick swim, only to quickly realize the water was more dangerous than he had thought. "The truck driver has learned another life lesson and received a ticket for parking on the shoulder and jumping off a bridge," the post said.

The new music follows the K-pop group's debut mixtape, Hop, which dropped in December. A music video teaser released Friday for the song "Ceremony" indicates the members of Stray Kids will compete in various sports, as they seen entering an arena. In a trailer for the album, an apparent newscaster says, "The global sporting event that returns every year -- The 2081 Karma Sports Event... is known to have eight players participating. Will they be able to break the past records?" He appears to be referring to the band members -- Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N. The album arrives Aug. 22 and will contain the songs "Bleep," "Ceremony," "Creed," "Mess," "In My Head," "Half Time," "Phoenix," "Ghost," "0801" and a festival version of "Ceremony." The music video for "Ceremony" will also drop that day.
