Bandits brace for big home matchup against rival Omaha Beef on Saturday

Yahoo09-05-2025

OMAHA, Neb. (KCAU) – The regular season is winding down for the Sioux City Bandits, who have just three regular season games remaining with the team's final three games of the season holding plenty of weight for Sioux City, including Saturday's battle against the Omaha Beef.
The Bandits come into the matchup following a season-high 78 points in the team's 78-42 victory at Idaho, snapping its two-game losing skid. Sioux City's losses to division foes Omaha and Beaumont dropped the Bandits to third in the NAL National Division standings.
But after some reflection following the up-and-down sequence, the Bandits enter the home stretch determined to make some noise.
'We feel like we're our own worst enemy right now when it comes to those games. We had a lot to look at, a lot to adjust from, but nobody's hitting the panic button by any means,' Bandits running back Drew Prohaska said. 'They hurt a little bit more, but there's a lot to learn from losses like that. And it felt like it translated into this last game and it helped us kind of execute at a really high level this last Saturday.'
'They do feel good. Actually, we do. We were supposed to do and I thought I would continue to do that. Everything is about loyalty and hard work and I feel like as long as we continue to do that and we're confident,' Bandits defensive back Juan Moore mentioned.
Sioux City certainly has some ground to make up in the National Division standings as they are two games back of Omaha for first place, but can close the gap with a win against the Beef. The Bandits still have yet to host second-place Colorado, that game will be the team's season finale.
Kickoff between the Bandits and the Beef is slated for Saturday at 7:10 p.m.

Razorbacks' College World Series run is a grand slam for Arkansas businesses

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorbacks are Omaha-bound for the College World Series, and while fans are thrilled about the team's first postseason appearance since 2022, it's not just the players who are racking up wins — local businesses are, too. As excitement for a potential national title builds, that energy is translating directly into sales at stores across the state. 'I get a text, usually from my friends, saying they need a new Razorback shirt,' longtime fan Toni Goble said. WATCH: Dave Van Horn and players talk going to Omaha, beating Tennessee 11-4 At Rock City Outfitters in Conway, online orders are spiking. Owner Ryan Ritchie said demand surges every time the Razorbacks have a successful run. 'Anytime they do well, you see that excitement build up. A lot more website visits, a lot more purchases, and everybody's in a good mood, so they tend to buy more,' Ritchie said. He added that many fans feel personally connected to the gear they buy. 'It's fun, especially to look up in the stands at some of these games and see people wearing our shirts,' he said. 'Usually when they see it, they have a story behind it, or it reminds them of a time as a child going to a sporting event.' That same postseason energy is being felt at Rally House Arkansas in Little Rock, where assistant store manager Carter Martin said foot traffic has increased significantly. 'Those are all gone — and we've been selling a lot of T-shirts,' Martin said. As fans scramble for the latest gear, businesses are embracing the momentum and hoping the team's run continues. 'It's about building that connection with other Arkansans,' Ritchie said. 'And being able to create a product they can relate to and be proud to wear.' Hogs sweep Vols to win Super Regional, Omaha next With more College World Series games ahead, business owners say the economic ripple effect of the Razorbacks' run could last as long as their postseason streak. Royals place Michael Massey on injured list, recall Tyler Tolbert before series-opener vs Yankees

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals placed second baseman Michael Massey on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left ankle and recalled utility man Tyler Tolbert from Triple-A Omaha before starting a three-game series against the Yankees on Tuesday night. Massey had served as the designated hitter on Saturday against the White Sox but did not finish the game, and he was out of the lineup for the series finale. He is hitting just .202 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 56 games this season. 'The same ankle injury that he's been dealing with since the last homestand. It's just not getting any better, or it's not improving enough to go out there and play at a high level,' Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. 'He got an MRI to show that things weren't healing as well as we would like. So, we needed to make a move to get him some rest.' ___
