Manitoba weather: A chance of severe thunderstorms

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for August 18, 2025. After a soaking on Sunday across southern Manitoba, the week is off to a cloudy start. The sun will gradually come out Monday afternoon from west to east, with daytime highs reaching the mid-20s. There is the risk of potentially severe thunderstorms later in the afternoon in the southwest. Expand Autoplay 1 of 30 Falcon Lake Black Lab brothers that love the lake and live to swim. The northeast will remain cloudy, with showers possible around Island Lake and Gillam. Forecast highs across the north Monday are in the upper teens to low 20s. An upper ridge of high pressure over the prairies will continue to bring some clearing overnight across Manitoba. That, coupled with light winds and surface moisture after recent rains, should produce fog overnight. Visibility could be reduced into the Tuesday morning commute. The ridge will also usher in another blast of heat across the province on Tuesday, with highs in the upper 20s in the south and low to mid-20s in the north. Many areas will also be sunny or see a mix of sun and cloud.

Possible funnel cloud spotted near Manitoba community Thursday

A funnel cloud is seen in Traverse Bay on August 14, 2025. (Seth Anderson) A funnel cloud was spotted in Traverse Bay, Man., on Thursday evening. An image from the area, near Victoria Beach, shows a funnel cloud forming in the sky around 7 p.m. The picture was taken after Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued severe thunderstorm watches on Thursday for parts of southeast Manitoba, with the weather agency saying a surface low entering the province was expected to bring storms. As of 7 a.m. on Friday, ECCC had not received any funnel cloud reports. However, the weather agency did receive word of ping pong to tennis ball-sized hail in Powerview-Pine Falls. • With files from CTV's Colleen Bready.

Colleen Bready's Forecast: The calm after the storms

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for August 15, 2025. The impact of one low pressure system on both halves of Manitoba on Thursday is remarkable. The low helped to usher in a hot and humid air mass over the south—and a cold front that produced tornado-warned severe thunderstorms east of Lake Winnipeg Thursday evening. As the severe storms moved east, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued tornado warnings for communities including Almdals Cove and Powerview-Pine Falls. Winnipeg was under a severe thunderstorm watch for several hours, but no storms developed over the city. Meanwhile, the same system dumped a staggering amount of much-needed rain over the north, including a number of wildfire-affected communities. Here are rainfall totals reported by ECCC so far: Lynn Lake 84.7 mm Pukatawagan 58.8 mm Leaf Rapids 42.7 mm Sherridon 34.8 mm Notigi 31.0 mm Tadoule Lake 27.1 mm Thompson 23.9 mm Churchill 18.6 mm The Pas 18.4 mm Flin Flon 18.2 mm Friday brings the calm after the storms, while the northeast will see more showers as the low pressure system slowly moves east. The low will bring one last blast to Churchill on its way out over Hudson Bay with 5-10 mm of rain, strong and gusting northeast winds, and a cool high of just 8 C this afternoon. In the south, an approaching ridge of high pressure will bring stable, sunny conditions, with slightly below normal temperatures in the low 20s on Friday and Saturday, before warming up to the mid-20s on Sunday.
