Philippines to host FIBA Women's Asia Cup in 2027
FIBA made the announcement on Thursday.
'We are excited to return to the Philippines for a FIBA Asia event,' FIBA Executive Director-Asia Hagop Khajirian said in a statement.
'We believe hosting the FIBA Women's Asia Cup event in the Philippines, where basketball has a passionate following, will help FIBA's efforts to promote women's basketball in Asia. The event will also serve as a boost to the SBP's efforts to promote women's basketball in the Philippines."
The hosting will come four years after the Philippines hosted the FIBA World Cup in 2023.
For the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the hosting is a sign of prioritizing the growth of women's basketball.
'The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is proud to be the host for the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2027. The federation has always been an ardent partner of FIBA in prioritizing the growth of women's basketball, and it's about time for the Philippines to do even more,' SBP president Al Panlilio said.
'The timing is perfect for the Philippines to host this competition as women's basketball in the country currently has great momentum behind it with the foundation of a women's professional league and some of our national team players getting opportunities to play abroad."
China is hosting the 2025 edition of the women's continental tourney this month.

Gilas Pilipinas Women rise to no. 39 in FIBA world rankings
Gilas Pilipinas Women made a notable leap in the global ladder after the national women's basketball team climbed five spots in the latest FIBA world rankings. The Filipinas soared from no. 44 to no. 39 just a month after their gallant campaign at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in China. Gilas is also now the seventh best team in Asia and the highest-ranked Southeast Asian team. In the recent Asia Cup, the Patrick Aquino-helmed squad finished sixth overall behind a young crew that featured rising stars Naomi Panganiban, Sumayah Sugapong, Vanessa De Jesus, Kacey Dela Rosa, and Kent Pastrana with veteran center Jack Animam leading the way. Quentin Millora-Brown recognized as a local by FIBA, SBP confirms
It's official: Quentin Millora-Brown is classified as a local by FIBA. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) confirmed the development on Friday. "We're pleased with the update from FIBA because a player of his size and skill can make a positive impact for Gilas Pilipinas Men," SBP president Al Panlilio said in a statement. With this development, Millora-Brown can now be included in the lineup of locals for the Philippine national team. Earlier, national team head coach Tim Cone said Millora-Brown's addition would be exciting if his status were confirmed. Millora-Brown's name had been floated as a possible addition to the national team even before the Philippines' stint in the FIBA Asia Cup. He also played for the Macau Black Bears in a tune-up game against Gilas Pilipinas ahead of the tournament. Born in the United States, the 6-foot-10 Millora-Brown is the grandson of a Filipino doctor.
