‘It's emotional and mental abuse' – Malusi Gigaba on ex-wife's allegations against him
In an interview, Mngoma detailed Gigaba's alleged infidelity during their marriage, porn addiction and misuse of public funds. Malusi Gigaba, the former finance and home affairs minister, has refused to respond to his ex-wife's allegations about him and their marriage, saying he wants to protect his family's dignity. 'For the well-being and dignity of my children, that I live with, whom I raise, I would rather not respond,' Gigaba said, speaking to Gagasi FM's Alex Mthiyane. In July, Gigaba's ex-wife, Norma Mngoma, was a guest on an episode of Untied, a talk show series that unpacks the complex world of divorce through the stories of famous women who have lived it. In the episode, Mngoma detailed Gigaba's alleged infidelity during their marriage, porn addiction and misuse of public funds. A month before Mngoma's episode aired, Gigaba attempted to block its broadcast by taking the matter to the Johannesburg High Court. The court dismissed the matter, giving Showmax the green light to broadcast the episode. Gigaba has now described Mngoma's assertions as emotional abuse. 'It's emotional abuse, it's mental abuse… but you've got to be mature enough as an adult, as a father, parent and a responsible member of society. It's quite unfortunate when such types of allegations are made, but once you start responding to any of them, then you have to respond to all of them.' ALSO READ: Gigaba set for PhD after airing of ex-wife's explosive tell-all episode on 'Untied' Gigaba wants to protect his family's dignity Gigaba said responding to Mngoma's tell-all interview would dent his family's dignity. 'My family would expect a certain level of responsibility and behaviour on my part, [rather] than to drag myself through the mud. Thirdly, the fact that somebody has made allegations does not make those allegations true,' said Gigaba. In the interview, Mngoma said her ex-husband had mistresses who would reach out to her about Gigaba's alleged infidelity. According to Mngoma, it reached the point where some of the women were allegedly blackmailing Gigaba. 'They wanted him to cancel the wedding. 'Then I'm gonna tell your wife this and that.' It was just a lot. He made me believe that these things were not true and did not exist.' Mngoma alleged that during this time, Gigaba was more focused on keeping a 'clean' public image of the couple. 'In the beginning, he never paid so much attention to fixing things in the house. He was more of how the public sees him… and then he's posting me,' she said. Mngoma alleged that Gigaba would make up excuses not to attend therapy sessions he initiated. She recalled that at one point, Gigaba accused a therapist, who is white, of being racist. 'Or sometimes he will say 'no, the therapist is DA'. He used to have a reason why he's not continuing, and I will find another one,' Mngoma said. ALSO READ: Malusi Gigaba's attempt to halt broadcast of ex-wife's explosive episode on 'Untied' fails Gigaba responds with denial 'The fact that somebody has made allegations about you, to which you have not responded or you are not responding, does not either make those allegations true or mean that you are running away from responding to those things,' said Gigaba in response to Mngoma's statements. 'It just means that you have thought carefully about your responsibility, particularly to your children and you want to protect them by not getting into that street fight that will live on.' The politician said that members of the public may be interested in the 'fist fight' between him and Mngoma. 'Gossip and hearsay is lovely, but the dignity of your children has to matter most and to me, it matters most, and that's why I'm not responding to this.' The ANC member said he might, at the right time and on the right platform, respond to Mngoma's allegations against him. Una Rams celebrates love and culture with debut album 'Meet me at the Altar'
Una Rams is preparing to release his debut album 'Meet Me at the Altar' on Heritage Day Image: Supplied Grammy award-winning musician, songwriter and producer Una Rams is gearing up for the release of his debut album 'Meet me at the altar'. Set to drop on September 24, Heritage Day, a day that has become synonymous with weddings in South Africa. The musician tells IOL that the messaging behind the songs and the album's theme, as well as the tracklist, are sort of a guide or a playlist to an actual wedding. 'You know, you have different moments in there that you can feel that, this song is for the bus or, this song is for the bride to walk down the aisle to.' 'Meet me at the altar' was initially meant to have dropped last year, but 'everything in God's time,' and here he is now with arguably one of the best release dates for a project like this. Real name, Unarine Rambani, this year got married to actress and personality Ntando Duma, now Rambani and they have welcomed their first child. Image: Supplied Real name, Unarine Rambani, this year got married to actress and personality Ntando Duma, now Rambani and they have welcomed their first child. The couple's love story has had their fans captivated and believing that good old romance still exists. 'Meet me at the altar' is a sonic love letter to his wife and heritage. The overarching theme for the album revolves around the concepts of love, unity, and celebration. In August, Una Rams released the second single, 'Priceless Possession,' from the album. Originally written over seven years ago, 'priceless possession' has been carefully reimagined for this new chapter. The song was initially meant to be part of an EP called 'Crush'. Una Rams admits that he experienced mixed feelings when it came to revisiting his old music. 'There's one element of surprise, how could a version of me that was so young know what to speak on and what to do with the reaction of speaking about marriage and love?' While he may be surprised, Una Rams reveals that he has always been a lover boy and always wanted to have a family of his own. Una Rams looks at this moment as a reflection on the power of manifestation. 'I had plans for that song in particular many years ago, but you know how they say, we plan and God laughs. For it to finally materialise and be something I'm able to share now while everything is happening has been a real blessing.' Una Rams didn't get into the studio, thinking he would be making an album, but rather worked on working off of serendipity. He credits his brother, manager and creative partner, Matt, for pushing him when needed. The musician recalls how Matt pushed him to put the song 'Say the Word' on the album but it was very challenging for him to write because it just felt like he didn't have the words. 'But after some time and after the wedding, he had a bit more perspective and was able to then put the words that needed to say what he needed to say on that song. 'It's made it onto the album and it's one of my favourites now. It shows that, sometimes, in that friction is where you find beauty.' Una Rams describes the album as a 'sonic museum', his creative way to help preserve and touch on culture and tradition. Having noticed how with the times, there seems to be a fade in culture and tradition, but also it's cool to reap where you're from. 'What I found is that these songs were able to capture beautiful elements of language and the poetry in there that not only allow us to wave the flag higher for where we're from, but also become touch points to teach people. 'Through my music, I'm then able to become a cultural teacher in a sense.'
