1 in 7 IIM Trichy graduates fail to get placed
Trichy: For a long time, the conventional belief was that getting into any of the Indian Institutes of Management guaranteed a job with a fancy salary. But to get placed itself may not be a certainty, let alone landing a handsome package.
At IIM-Trichy, roughly one in seven students from the 2023-25 batch have not secured placements, while 27% of the batch secured jobs with packages exceeding ₹20 lakh.
As soon as the official placement report was released this year, TOI had reported that not all got placed. Now, an RTI response sought by an activist, the accuracy of which was confirmed by TOI from officials at the institution, revealed that as many as 59 out of 384 students from the 2023-25 batch did not receive placements.
Officials attribute this 'steep decline' in placements to external factors. "Unlike other programmes, the success here is market-driven, and there seems to be a downturn in the job market this year," a senior IIM-T official said.
While the highest CTC has gradually increased over the years, this is the first time in many years that such a high number of students were not placed. The institution has typically maintained strong placement records, except for the 2020–2022 batch when 34 students were left unplaced.

That figure has now nearly doubled in five years.
A few students among the 59 have found alternate routes by securing jobs on their own, albeit with lower compensation. "I expected to get a placement through the institute that would help me pay off my debt quickly. But with no placement, I had to find a job myself. The package I received is not even 30% of the lowest salary offered through campus placements at IIM. It's going to be much harder to clear my loan," a student who remained unplaced told TOI.
Officials across B-schools said that a saturated job market is contributing to the placement shortfall. "This is a phenomenon across campuses, and opportunities are shrinking. There is ongoing uncertainty in the global market. Recruiters are being conservative in their manpower planning, and the number of recruitments per recruiter has come down," a professor from BIMS told TOI.
At BIMS, out of the 120 students in the 2023–25 batch, 19 have not been placed. "But the window is still open. We will ensure that they get placed within this month," Dr. Asit K. Barma, Director of BIMS, told TOI. He added that the market is evolving, and recruiters are increasingly looking for technology-oriented specializations such as HR analytics, sustainable marketing, robotic process automation, and green finance, rather than simply valuing the tag of a prestigious institution.

Full rapid rail corridor to be ready this month, says NCRTC
Ghaziabad: In just about a month, the commute between Delhi and Meerut could be nearly as quick as a Gurgaon-Connaught Place metro ride. The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is set to achieve a milestone as the 82km rapid rail corridor it is building from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut is on the cusp of full readiness. Officials confirmed that trains could run on the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor either by the end of this month or early July. A 55km of the section — from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South — is already functional while trials on the remaining stretch and Meerut Metro, which is part of this section, will be complete this month. A clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is expected in a couple of weeks. Once that is done, it will pave the way for India's first semi-high speed mass transit corridor to become operational fully. "Technically speaking, rapid rail trains are already running on the entire 82km corridor. While the 55km section from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South is operational, trial runs are progressing on the remaining stretch — 4.5km between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and 23km between Meerut South and Modipuram. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? According to the official, work on the metro corridor on the 27km stretch was almost over as well. "We are planning to present the complete stretch, including the Meerut Metro, for inauguration soon. We're on track to meet the June deadline. The final commissioning date, however, will rest with the ministry and higher authorities," the official said. It has taken six years for the corridor to start commercial operations since Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in March 2019. The project has seen systematic implementation since Oct 2023, when the 17km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai began operations. Subsequently, a 17km stretch from Duhai to Modinagar North was commissioned in March 2023, followed by an 8km section from Modinagar North to Meerut South. Jan 2024 saw the commissioning of the 13km stretch between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, bringing the operational length to 55km. "This expanding operational network has helped rapid rail trains achieve a milestone of over one crore ridership," the official added. Apart from the 55km section, there are three more stations beyond Meerut South — Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
