First batch of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2025 flagged off in Delhi
New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, presided over an event to flag off the first batch of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, 2025 on June 13, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi, said a release.
The Minister felicitated the Yatris on their selection and wished them a safe and fulfilling Yatra.
According to the release, in his remarks, the Minister recognised the role of various Government of India Ministries and Departments, such as the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the state governments of Delhi, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, and the National Informatics Centre. He appreciated the Chinese side for its cooperation for the resumption of the Yatra.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong in New Delhi on June 12, during the latter's two-day visit to India from June 12-13, 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
According to the MEA, the two sides reviewed developments in India-China bilateral relations since their last meeting in Beijing on January 27, 2025, and agreed to continue efforts to stabilise and rebuild ties with a focus on people-centric engagements.
Foreign Secretary Misri appreciated the Chinese side's cooperation in facilitating the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra this year. He also referred to the discussions during the April 2025 meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism on transboundary rivers and expressed hope for progress on the resumption of hydrological data sharing and other areas of cooperation.
The two sides agreed to expedite the steps involved in resuming direct air services between the two countries. The Foreign Secretary also hoped for the early conclusion of an updated Air Services Agreement. The MEA further noted that both sides agreed to take practical steps for visa facilitation and promote exchanges between media and think tanks.
They also positively assessed the activities planned to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China and agreed to facilitate the same, the MEA said.
In this context of strengthening bilateral ties, India said on Thursday that it is in touch with the Chinese side, seeking predictability in the supply of rare earth metals, which had been put under the export controls regime by the Xi administration.
'We are in touch with the Chinese side, both here in Delhi as well as in Beijing, to bring predictability in the supply chain for trade, consistent with international practices,' Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters in the weekly briefing. (ANI)

After the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule on Friday raised serious concerns over India's transport safety, calling civil aviation a big alarm and a "red flag for a long time." She also warmly remembered BJP leader and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, saying, "Vijay Rupaniji had been a most wonderful colleague to all of us." On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said.

'He video-called me, I couldn't call back': Daughter of man who died in Ahmedabad plane crash
The family of British national Ramesh Patel, who died in the Air India-171 plane crash, reached Ahmedabad. The family members remembered him and expressed fear about boarding an Air India flight in future. Speaking to ANI, Ramesh Patel's daughter Priti Pandya said, "He (her father) came here for nine days. He just came here to eat did not come back home. This was the first trip I spoke to him 3-4 times a week, but when he video-called on Tuesday, I was working, and I thought I would call him back, and I never was able to. My sister-in-law spoke to him when he boarded the plane." "He comes every year to India. He loves India. He has got a house in Gujarat... He loves this country, and he died was meant to be," she added. Daughter-in-law Kajal Patel told ANI, "Thursday morning, he rang me and said 'Everything is okay, the weight is okay' and I said, 'That's fine, Dad, don't worry'. He said that he won't ring me again, but then he rang me again and said 'I am in the plane safely and it's on time' and I said 'Okay, see you in the evening'...I asked him not to go as it's too hot in India, but he kept saying he wants to go." The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future," an order issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry read. The committee will have access to all records, including, among others, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, aircraft maintenance records, ATC Log and witness testimonies and will publish its report within three months. The committee is headed by the Home Secretary and includes representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force, and aviation experts. The committee will assess the emergency response of the various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination among them. It will also suggest policy changes, operational improvements and training enhancements required to prevent such occurrences and handle post-crash incident situations.
