The UK has set up a "reception centre" in a hotel near Ahmedabad airport to provide support and advice for the families and friends of British nationals following the Air India plane crash on June 12, its High Commission here said on Saturday.The London-bound flight AI171, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad and burst into a ball of fire on Thursday moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.Air India has confirmed that 241 people, including 52 British nationals who were on board the flight, were killed in the crash.One person, a British citizen, has survived and is currently undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the accident."The UK has set up a Reception Centre in the Ummed Hotel to provide support and advice for the families and friends of British nationals following the plane crash on 12 June," the British High Commission said in the post on X."The UK Reception Centre, near Ahmedabad airport, will be open from 0900 to 2100 every day, starting today," it said.British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, said that she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on Friday and shared condolences on behalf of her country in the face of the tragic plane crash a day ago.Cameron underlined that the UK and India are "working together" to establish facts linked with the accident.

Kadu Ends Hunger Strike After State Govt Assurance
Nagpur/Amravati: Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) president Bachchu Kadu on Saturday ended his week-long hunger strike at Gurukunj Mozari in Amravati after receiving a written assurance from the Maharashtra govt regarding his key demands. Industries Minister Uday Samant handed Kadu an official letter from revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, confirming the state's commitment to address the issues in a time-bound manner. Kadu, who was on hunger strike since Sunday last, was demanding the implementation of 17 key demands, most prominently a blanket farm loan waiver, issuance of fresh agricultural loans ahead of the kharif season, and an increase in the monthly honorarium to persons with disabilities (divyangs). According to the letter from Bawankule, the govt agreed to constitute a high-powered committee within 15 days to finalise the mechanism for the farm loan waiver. A formal decision on the waiver will follow the committee's report. It also states that the govt will hold a separate meeting to decide on stopping the forcible recovery of pending farm loans and facilitating the disbursal of new crop loans. Regarding the hike in the monthly honorarium for divyangs, the letter notes that a budgetary provision for this will be included in the supplementary demands scheduled for the monsoon session of the legislature beginning June 30. For the remaining demands, the govt assured further meetings with concerned ministers and the chief minister. K adu ended his agitation after recieving the letter, breaking his fast by accepting juice from Samant. Later, both leaders paid tribute to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj at Mozari. MLA Amol Mitkari and senior leader Kamaltai Gawai were also present. Kadu also spoke with CM Devendra Fadnavis on the phone. Samant expressed gratitude to Kadu for responding positively to the state's appeal. "The govt has taken his demands seriously. His health deteriorated over the past few days, and we are relieved that he has ended his fast," he said. Kadu, while thanking supporters, warned that if the promises made are not implemented, he along with supporters will march into Mumbai's Mantralaya on Oct 2. "This is only a pause. If the govt does not act, we will return with stronger resolve," he said. The protest, which drew wide political attention and backing from opposition parties including the Congress, was aimed at pressing for unconditional farm loan waivers and urgent relief measures for affected communities. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar earlier expressed solidarity with Kadu, urging the govt to act instead of issuing fresh assurances. Khattar reviews progress of Hry atomic power project, emphasises clean energy development
1 2 Chandigarh: Manohar Lal Khattar , the Union minister for power and housing and urban affairs, along with chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, visited the Haryana Atomic Power Project located in Gorakhpur, Fatehabad, on Saturday. Khattar said the project would meet the long-term energy needs not only of Haryana but also of north India. During the visit, the two reviewed the progress of ongoing construction works and instructed the officials concerned to complete these as per the set standards at the earliest. Khattar emphasised that nuclear energy was an environmentally favourable means of energy production. NPCIL project director Jivendra Kumar Jain, through a presentation, provided information about the department of atomic energy and the NPCIL's work. He also elaborated on the increase in nuclear energy production, the construction of the Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant, CSR, and awareness programmes. The former CM said the project would not only fulfil the long-term energy needs of Haryana and north India but also strengthen the commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions. During the review meeting, the Union minister obtained detailed information about the ongoing construction works and instructed officials to complete the work on time in accordance with safety standards. He emphasised the importance of raising awareness among the public to eliminate any doubts regarding nuclear safety and suggested informing nearby communities about nuclear safety. Khattar instructed officials to prioritise visionary development works by coordinating with administrative officials and public representatives for better utilisation of the CSR funds. He also said nuclear power plants were cost-effective in the long run compared to others and have minimal pollution issues. He also announced plans to plant over 20,000 trees in the nuclear plant complex during the upcoming monsoon season. All states have been urged to ensure establishing at least one nuclear power plant and expanding existing plants. My School My Responsibility scheme gets good response
Mysuru: The 'My School, My Responsibility' scheme, launched by the department of literacy and school education, received a good response in Mysuru district. The dept collected Rs 2 crore in donations from senior students for the improvement of the schools they studied in after forming the senior students' association. CM Siddaramaiah promoted the scheme in his home district, by contributing Rs 10 lakh from his pocket for the development of the schools where he completed his primary education — Siddaramanahundi and Kuppegala Schools, Mysuru taluk. The scheme emphasises that each student has a role to play in ensuring their schools are positive and productive. The department has already constituted more than 2,000 such alumni associations in about 2,000 lower and primary schools across the district. Some students working abroad or outside the state transferred funds to the dept's bank accounts opened for this purpose after reviewing the status of the schools they studied in. The department received tables, chairs, other furniture, dining tables, computers, and projectors for smart classes. It also received funds for school repairs, construction of compounds, setting up drinking water purifier systems, establishment of libraries, laptops, benches, notebooks, and for painting and modernisation of the schools. The nodal officer, Pushpalatha MB, said that the formation of alumni associations is not only helping govt schools with their upgradation and empowerment of students, but also attracting students to govt schools with improved infrastructure. It also helped the department increase enrolments in school, improve the quality of education, attendance, and comprehensive development of the schools. Speaking to TOI, DDPI Javaregowda said the My School, My Responsibility scheme received an overwhelming response after its launch in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah donated Rs 10 lakh for the school he studied in, under the scheme, encouraging the development of state-run schools. Grants from old students Government higher primary school of Kumbara Koppal received Rs 1.8 lakh in grants from its old students. Govt urdu lower primary school (LPS) of Rajivnagar received Rs 5 lakh, Govt LPS of Periyapatna taluk received Rs 1 lakh and Govt LPS in Lashkar Mohalla recieved Rs 1.4 lakh. Basava Marga foundation donated a school bus for the Govt School in Kukkarahalli. Alumni donated funds ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1 lakh under the scheme so far.
