AirPods Pro 3 could be Apple's next big health, fitness bet: What to expect

Recent research suggests, Apple could rely on acoustic-based sensors to offer heart rate monitoring feature on AirPods Pro 3

Apple has published a new research paper in collaboration with the University of North Carolina, detailing how it is using an in-house artificial intelligence model—CLAP (Contrastive Language-Audio Pretraining)—to estimate heart rate using acoustic data, such as stethoscope recordings. Originally developed for automatic speech recognition, CLAP was retrained by Apple using publicly available phonocardiogram (PCG) datasets to classify heart-related sounds and output beats-per-minute (BPM) estimates.
While Apple has not confirmed any commercial implementation, the technology could be applied to future wearable products, such as AirPods. Apple's earbuds already use in-ear microphones for features like Active Noise Cancellation, and these same mics could theoretically be leveraged to capture acoustic data for heart rate analysis.
If brought to market, this would not be Apple's first foray into earbuds with health tracking features. Earlier this year, Apple-owned Beats launched the Powerbeats Pro 2, which includes heart-rate monitoring via optical sensors, similar to those found in smartwatches. However, if Apple integrates heart-rate tracking into its AirPods line-up, it could potentially rely on acoustic-based sensing instead of optical components.
Apple's AirPods Pro are due for an upgrade, and heart-rate sensing may be just one of several new features. A Bloomberg report previously revealed that Apple is also working on integrating cameras into a future AirPods Pro model. These cameras could enable Apple's AI-driven Visual Intelligence system, designed to provide real-time assistance based on physical surroundings. Such technology could also offer accessibility benefits for visually impaired users—providing real-time navigation, object recognition, or contextual guidance.
The current AirPods Pro 2 already offers several hearing health features. These include a software-based Hearing Aid function that supports users with mild to moderate hearing loss. This feature begins with a pure-tone audiometry-based Hearing Test to assess the user's hearing profile. It then adjusts audio playback in real time, enhancing voices, music, and calls based on the user's needs.

Apple chief Tim Cook snubs Donald Trump, gives another gift to India as tech giant to open...

(File) Amid Donald Trump's recent threat to impose 25% import tariffs on Apple if the tech giant increases its iPhone production in India, the company has announced to open its third retail store in the country. The new Apple Store will be opened in the Phoenix Mall of Asia in Bengaluru, according to a Business Standard report. New Apple Store to open in Bengaluru As per the report, Apple's new retail store, its third in India, is spread across over 8,000 square fee, almost equal to its counterpart in Delhi, but smaller than the company's flagship store in Mumbai, which is spread across a whopping 20,800 square feet. The upcoming Apple Store in Bengaluru will feature all the distinctive and recognizable features associated with the company's retail outlets, including a minimalist design, professional staff dressed in Apple uniforms, and an abundance of glass. Apple has leased the space for 10 years, and will pay 2 percent of its total earnings as rent for the first three, which will increase to 2.5 percent for the remaining lease period, according to the report. The lease period began from November 8, 2024, and rent will start August 8, 2025, which means the store will likely open in next few months, presumably in late July or early August. Apple's India plan Experts believe that the new Apple Store is more than just another retail store, but a part of company's larger plan to strengthen its roots in India as it plans to stay in the country for a long period, despite Donald Trump's tariff threats. Apart from being a giant market for Apple products, India is also emerging as a manufacturing hub for the company, which is evident from its recent assertion that the majority of iPhones that will be sold in the US from June 2025, will carry a 'Made in India' tag, while iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches and AirPods will be shipped from Vietnam. However, things are expected to become difficult for Apple if it chooses to increase iPhone manufacturing in India, defying Donald Trump's diktat, who has threatened to impose 25% import tariffs on iPhones manufactured outside the United States.

Attention Android, iPhone users! WhatsApp will not work on these phones from tomorrow due to...; check complete list

(File) WhatsApp requirements: In a vital update for users still clinging on to their older iPhones or Android-based smartphones, WhatsApp, Meta's popular messaging app, will stop working in devices running iOS 15 or earlier, or Android 5.0 or earlier, from tomorrow (June 1, 2025). According to Meta, the company is raising the minimum requirements for using WhatsApp because older iOS and Android-based smartphones no longer receive critical security updates from Apple and Google, respectively, which opens up users to a whole range of security threats. Starting June 1, Android devices running on Android 5.0 or earlier, and iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads, running iOS 15 or earlier, will end support for WhatsApp. Check out the complete list of Android and iPhones that won't support WhatsApp from tomorrow: iPhone models that will no longer support WhatsApp iPhone 5s iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus iPhone SE (1st gen) WhatsApp won't work on these Android phones from June 1 Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sony Zperia Z1 LG G2 Huawei Ascend P6 Moto G (1st Gen) Motorola Razr HD Moto E 2014 Do you need to change your phone to use WhatsApp? Not necessarily, while all the above mentioned phones are essentially ancient relics in 2025, its important to note that some might still be upgradable to iOS 15.1 or Android 5.1 which would enable WhatsApp to continue to run on these devices, at least until Meta raises the requirements again. However, if your phone is stuck on iOS 15 or Android 5.0, meaning you need to change your device, do not worry about losing your WhatsApp chats and media, and follow these easy steps to backup these to your Google account, which you can later use to restore on your new device. How to create WhatsApp backup? Open WhatsApp and enter settings by clicking the dotted bar on the upper right hand corner. Click 'Chats' Choose 'Backup' Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the backup to your Google account Why Meta withdrew WhatsApp support for older devices? According to Meta, the primary reason behind the the decision is to protect the privacy and security of WhatsApp users. The company noted that Apple and Google have ended support for these older iOS and Android versions, and no longer provides them with security updates, which exposes these older devices to a host of security risks.

Urgent alert for Americans as 184 million passwords leak in major data breach - what you must do now

A cybersecurity expert named Jeremiah Fowler found a huge online database that was not protected. This database had over 184 million records, including emails, passwords, and login links, all in plain text. The leaked info is linked to big companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and even banks and government services, according to the report by Wired. Fowler said this leak is more dangerous than usual because it gives direct access to people's accounts. He called it a "cybercriminal's dream working list". This leak can cause identity theft, fraud, and hacking if people don't act, according to 2023, data breaches increased by 72%, even though about 353 million were affected. But in 2024, even though the number of breaches stayed high, the number of people affected jumped by 312%. This was because of mega-breaches like this one. Many companies are now using cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure to save money, but this also increases the risk of hacking. An IBM report said 82% of breaches last year involved cloud-stored data, as per Wall Street Journal report. Overseas support agents at the crypto exchange app Coinbase were allegedly bribed by hackers on May 11 for getting access to the app's customer database. Coinbase didn't pay ransom, but the damage could still cost them up to $400 million. Change your passwords immediately. Each account should have a unique password and should consist of as many keypad characters as possible to maintain its strength. Don't reuse the same or similar passwords on multiple websites. Use multi-factor authentication wherever possible. This adds an extra safety layer. Freeze your credit with the 3 major credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. It won't hurt your score but stops new accounts being opened in your name, as per the report by Moneywise. Try tools like Google's Password Checkup to see if your login info has already been leaked. If it has, change those passwords now. Set up transaction alerts on your credit cards to catch any weird activity early. Make sure your email and phone number linked to your bank and shopping accounts are up to date, so you get alerts quickly. Teresa Murray summed it up best, 'This is a wake-up call for people who haven't been careful online', as per reports. Q1. What was leaked in the password breach? Emails, passwords, and login links from many big platforms were leaked. Q2. What should a person do if their data gets leaked? Change your passwords, turn on two-factor login, and freeze your credit if needed.
