New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh announced that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has significantly shortened timelines for key processes in the military equipment procurement cycle as part of sweeping reforms aimed at boosting efficiency and advancing India's goal of ' Aatmanirbharta ' in the defence sector, as per an official release.Speaking at a defence conclave in the national capital on Friday, Singh stated that the decision will save an overall 69 weeks, noting that the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 is being revisited to reflect current realities, shifting from the traditional nomination-based cost-plus procurement to a competitive pricing model where both public and private sectors can vie for orders.This approach is already being implemented for shipbuilding and recently for the AMCA project, he added.Singh's remark followed serious concerns raised by the Chief of Air Staff and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh during his address at the CII Annual Business Summit 2025 on Thursday over persistent delays in defence projects, the systemic issue of unrealistic timelines, and their impact on operational readiness.Air Chief Marshal pointed at the recurring pattern of delays in project execution and criticised the practice of committing to unachievable deadlines in the context of the reported ongoing challenges with projects like the delivery of the aircraft.Singh emphasised the critical role of self-reliance in preserving India's strategic autonomy and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat while urging private industries to invest heavily in research and development (R&D) and capital equipment to strengthen the domestic defence ecosystem.Deliberating upon India's Defence Vision, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said that it centres around Aatmanirbharta for preserving the strategic autonomy of the country. It is also critical in achieving the broader goal of Viksit Bharat, such as expanding our GDP from the current 4 Trillion Dollars to 32 Trillion Dollars by 2047, growing our manufacturing sector, enhancing India's start-up culture and widening our industrial base, generating employment and also its spin-off benefits that come from the dual use of technology.He underscored the impact of indigenisation over the past decade, stating that India has transitioned from being the top importer in 2015 to becoming one of the top 25 exporters today. Over 100 Indian companies are now exporting to 100-plus countries. The list of products includes missiles such as Brahmos, rocket launchers like Pinaka, simulators, armoured vehicles, the Dornier aircraft, different types of ships, offshore patrol vessels, etc. The upsurge in exports can be gauged from the fact that our exports have grown 30 times in the last ten years to Rs 23,622 crores in the last financial year. Our defence industry today includes 16 Defence PSUs, 430 licensed companies and approximately 16000 MSMEs. Domestic defence sales also increased from Rs 43746 crores in 2014 to Rs 127000 crores in 2023-24.Singh also highlighted record achievements in the financial year 2024-25, noting that the MoD has completely utilised the defence modernisation budget for the first time in the past five years and signed contracts worth a record Rs 2 lakh crores during the last financial year, which is the highest ever achieved and double that of the figures for 2023-24.This would ensure that the armed forces' modernisation process keeps pace. It would also help the Ministry demand a higher share in the union budget, leading to a minimum defence to GDP ratio of 2.5 per cent in five years as a first step and thereafter to 3 per cent in the medium term.

However, over time, the market was dominated by Dussehri, Chausa, and Safeda," he said."Now, with a renewed interest in diverse mango flavors, producers are returning to traditional varieties."Ali added that growers are particularly focusing on red-fleshed varieties such as Surkha Matiyara, Amrapali, Malka, Tommy Atkins, Husnara, Totapari, Ratol, and Tuqmi."These varieties offer unique flavors and aromas, and fetch higher market prices -- typically between Rs 80-120 per kg, compared to Rs 40-60 for Dussehri, Chausa, or Safeda," he it is still too early to estimate the total production of these revived varieties, the trend is Khan, a prominent mango grower from Lucknow, confirmed the shifting trend."About 50 years ago, we had to cut down trees of other varieties due to lack of demand. But now, connoisseurs are showing keen interest in those flavors again," he who cultivates around 25 bighas of orchard land, grows nearly 22 different mango varieties including Surkha Matiyara, Gilas, Johri Safeda, Khaas-ul-Khaas, Pakeeza, Haathi Jhool, Hamil Tahseel, Banarasi Langda, Chausa, Amin Abdul Ahad, Husnara, and Lucknowa particular, the Ratol variety -- native to Ratol village in Baghpat district -- has been making a strong comeback. Known for its sweet taste and intense aroma, the small-sized Ratol mango was once popularized internationally by former state cabinet minister Merajuddin Ahmed, who showcased it across countries such as the US, China, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and son, Faiz Mahmood, told PTI, "The Ratol mango is so fragrant that one can smell it from a distance when it ripens on the tree. My father organized several grand exhibitions of Ratol, attracting mango lovers from around the world. Now I am continuing this tradition to bring its royal taste to a global audience."However, the mango revival comes with challenges. Unfavorable weather conditions and rising production costs have impacted profitability this year, even as output Ali said that Uttar Pradesh is expected to produce around 3 million metric tonnes of mangoes this year -- a figure higher than last year's 2 million tonnes, but still below the anticipated output based on early input costs are also eroding profits, he said."Due to counterfeit pesticides in the market, farmers have to spray larger quantities to combat pests. Earlier, a one-bigha orchard required Rs 10,000 worth of genuine pesticides; now the cost has risen to Rs 18,000-20,000. With average earnings of Rs 40,000 per bigha, profits have dropped from Rs 30,000 to around Rs 20,000-Rs 22,000," Ali urged the government to establish a dedicated lab in the state for pesticide verification and disease diagnosis in mango trees."We've submitted complaints about fake pesticides several times, but no action has been taken. A proper testing facility is urgently needed," he added.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta meets Swami Chidanand Saraswati in Rishikesh, says aim to conduct Aarti on both sides of Yamuna
Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) [India], June 1 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Swami Chidanand Saraswati Maharaj of Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh and offered prayers. Following the completion of 100 days of the Delhi government, she said that the aim was to perform Aarti on both sides of the river. CM Rekha Gupta said, 'Delhi has so many problems due to which Yamuna always faced issues in getting cleaned. The earlier governments had neither policy nor intention; today, it is a matter of relief that in the current government, our policies are clear, and our intention is also clear. There is a desire to work under the leadership of PM Modi. Work is going on continuously at many different levels to improve the Yamuna have arranged to run a small ferry on the Yamuna River. When there is odourless water in Yamuna, greenery all around, then Yamuna ji will be able to take its shape, its form.' She further said, 'Nearly 150 to 200 drains from where dirty water with the sludge enters the river Yamuna have to be cleaned. We have started Aarti at one ghat in river Yamuna. Our aim is to conduct Aarti on both sides of the river,' she added. CM Rekha Gupta took a holy dip in the River Ganga in Haridwar on Sunday and vowed to clean Yamuna so that people can take a holy dip in the river. She met Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj at Harihar Ashram in Haridwar on Sunday. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said, 'It is a feeling of immense joy. Yesterday, the government completed 100 days of rule in Delhi. Yesterday we did Aarti in Yamuna river and today, after taking a dip in the Ganga, I really feel that the pace of development in Delhi will now pick up more speed. Today, after taking the blessings of Gurujan, I am feeling more powerful within myself. I have a sense of responsibility. Delhi, which has been suffering for many years, now the government, which has come, it is our responsibility to ensure Delhi progresses. I ask for the strength that whatever the aspirations of the people are, I am able to fulfil them.' She further said, 'I prayed to God that the way lakhs of devotees come to Haridwar to worship River Ganga, in the same way, River Yamuna can be cleaned so that people can take a holy dip there.' CM Rekha Gupta, accompanied by her family, visited the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar and took a holy dip in the Ganga river on Sunday. (ANI)

Madrid [Spain] June 1 (ANI): All party delegation-led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Madrid. The deleegatio is on the final leg of its multi-nation visit as part of Modi government's big diplomatic outreach following operation Sindoor. The delegation also met with the Indian community and engaged with them. Kaushal, a member of Indian diaspora highlighted the India's unity, and affirmed, 'Irrespective of their party politics, the awareness they (the delegations) bring here will portray our picture with regards to our achievement in Operation Sindoor... Seven all-party delegations are taking part in various outreach programmes in their countries they are assigned to. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The seven group of delegations were visiting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone, the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Russia, Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
