Notorious serial killers - and their star signs

While astrology and criminal psychology are separate fields, it's interesting to note any obvious patterns. Image: Wikimedia Commons
While astrology and criminal psychology are separate fields, it's interesting to see patterns – though there's no scientific correlation between star signs and violent behaviour.
Here's a list of some of the world's best-known serial killers along with their star signs. Donald 'Pee Wee' Gaskins – March 13, 1933
– March 13, 1933 John Reginald Christie – April 8, 1899 Martha Beck – May 6, 1920 (part of the 'Lonely Hearts Killers')
– May 6, 1920 H.H. Holmes – May 16, 1861 Jeffrey Dahmer – May 21, 1960
– May 21, 1960 David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) – June 1, 1953 Robert Maudsley – June 26, 1953
– June 26, 1953 Carl Panzram – June 28, 1891 Myra Hindley – July 23, 1942
– July 23, 1942 John George Haigh (Acid Bath Murderer) – July 24, 1909 Ed Gein – August 27, 1906
– August 27, 1906 Richard Angelo – August 29, 1962
– August 29, 1962 Albert DeSalvo (Boston Strangler) – September 3, 1931 Beverley Allitt – October 4, 1968
– October 4, 1968 Angelo Buono (Hillside Strangler) – October 5, 1934
– October 5, 1934 Pedro Lopez – October 8, 1948 Nannie Doss – November 4, 1905
– November 4, 1905 Joseph James DeAngelo (Golden State Killer) – November 8, 1945
– November 8, 1945 Belle Gunness – November 11, 1859
– November 11, 1859 Charles Manson – November 12, 1934 (Cult leader, not a direct serial killer but associated with murders) Ted Bundy – November 24, 1946
– November 24, 1946 Edmund Kemper – December 18, 1948 Harold Shipman – January 14, 1946 Luis Garavito – January 25, 1957
– January 25, 1957 Gary Ridgway (Green River Killer) – February 18, 1949 Aileen Wuornos – February 29, 1956
– February 29, 1956 Richard Ramirez – February 29, 1960
– February 29, 1960 Dennis Rader (BTK Killer) – March 9, 1945
– March 9, 1945 John Wayne Gacy – March 17, 1942
Scorpio, Pisces, Libra, Gemini and Virgo appear frequently, but this may be coincidental.
Traits associated with these signs (e.g. duality in Gemini, emotion in Pisces, obsession in Virgo) are sometimes retroactively linked to criminal patterns – but again, there is no scientific basis.

Police kill four suspects in Gauteng armed robbery ambush

Gauteng police shot and killed four suspected robbers in Randfontein on Tuesday after a gunfight with officers from the Tactical Response Team. The police intercepted the suspects after the Eastern Cape police's Crime Intelligence Unit shared information that the group was planning to rob a businessman in Randfontein. The businessman was reportedly en route to deposit a large sum of money at the bank. Officers from the Tactical Response Team spotted the suspects' vehicle travelling on Ventersdorp Road. Gauteng police deputy commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana said officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which carried four suspects. 'The suspects opened fire on our members, and the team returned fire. All four suspects were fatally wounded,' said Kekana. Police seized rifles and pistols at the scene. They also found traditional muti inside the suspects' car, including on the seats. Police noted that the vehicle had false number plates. A sticker on the petrol cap read: 'Prayer is the key.' Commenting on the failed robbery, Kekana said, 'Neither worked for them, not their muti nor the prayers. They were doing something they shouldn't have, and even the prayers ended up helping the police.' Limpopo pig farmer's trial postponed as accused turns witness

The High Court in Polokwane postponed the trial of three men to Thursday. The state accuses them of murdering two women and dumping their bodies in a pigsty on a Limpopo farm. Limpopo pig farmer Zachariah Olivier, farm supervisor Rudolph de Wet, and Zimbabwean national William Musora face charges of murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, illegal possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. Musora faces an additional charge under the Immigration Act. The state alleges the men shot and killed Maria Makgato and Lucia Ndlovu in August last year at Onverwacht farm, outside Polokwane. A third woman reportedly escaped. The victims had allegedly gone to the farm to collect expired food for the pigs. According to the prosecution, the accused dumped the women's bodies in a pigsty, where the pigs consumed them. During brief court proceedings on Monday, 20-year-old De Wet, a supervisor on the farm, turned state witness under Section 204. His lawyer, Muhammed Farouk Valjee, told the court that De Wet will testify that Olivier fatally shot the women and forced him, under duress, to dispose of their bodies. The state is expected to withdraw charges against De Wet once he gives his testimony. Olivier and Musora, aged 60 and 50 respectively, remain in custody and have yet to enter their pleas. 'Public nudity, animal sacrifices' - Joburg suburb petitions riverside rituals

Ceremonial rituals including animal sacrifices are becoming commplace along the Braamfontein and Sandspruit riverbanks. This is according to concerned Paulshof residents, who are demanding urgent intervention from Johannesburg city and provincial authorities. Residents say the weekend ceremonies begin in the early hours with loud drumming and chanting, and are accompanied by activities they consider disturbing and unsafe. This includes public nudity, animal sacrifices, large open fires, and the dumping of waste into the rivers, writes the Fourways Review . 'We are witnessing shocking scenes, people walking around nude in broad daylight, the slaughtering of animals near homes, and fires burning for hours,' said resident Albert Gumbi, who is also the former chairperson of the Paulshof Residents and Ratepayers Association 'This is no longer about cultural freedom; it's about basic public health, safety, and decency.' Complaints from concerned Paulshof residents have been lodged with the JMPD, as well as the Environmental Health Directorate. An online petition meanwhile has been circulating among locals, claiming that the riverbanks have become unregulated areas where by-laws are ignored. The Paulshof community are also worried about the potential for disease outbreaks, and the emotional impact the animal sacrifices may have on children and elderly people living nearby. 'We find [animal] remains scattered near the river after the weekend,' Gumbi added. 'It's unhygienic and traumatic.' In response, Gauteng MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Vuyiswa Ramokopa, recently visited the community to hear to residents' concerns firsthand. 'This is not just about environmental damage, it's a matter of public dignity and human rights,' said Ramokopa. 'Every person deserves to live in an area that is safe, clean, and respectful. I fully support this petition and will engage relevant departments to ensure this is addressed properly and lawfully.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
