The Congress on Saturday demanded answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on why he chose "trade" over the nation, after a top US administration official told a US Court that a trade deal was offered to broker the India-Pakistan ceasefire.In a post on X, Randeep Surjewala said that while Trump has claimed 11 times that he "brokered the ceasefire" between India and Pakistan, Modi negated it not even once.Now, documentary evidence in the form of an affidavit is also available, he said.The evidence was an affidavit US Secretary of Commerce Howard W Lutnick filed in the US Court of International Trade."...This ceasefire was only achieved after President Trump interceded and offered both nations trading access with the United States to avert a full-scale war."An adverse ruling that constrains presidential power in this case could lead India and Pakistan to question the validity of President Trump's offer, threatening the security of an entire region and the lives of millions," a part of the affidavit read, Surjewala claimed.He termed the excerpt an "official proof" of Trump's claims, and asked a series of questions to the prime minister."Modi ji and BJP-NDA government must answer the following questions. Why did we permit U.S to broker a 'ceasefire Agreement', when our Armed Forces had a clear upper hand and Pakistan was cracking up? What is the 'trade deal' that U.S President offered and Modi Ji accepted?"Is 'trade' more important than Nation? What are the terms of ceasefire? Where are the terrorists who killed 26 innocent people in Pahalgam? Will Pakistan hand them over to us so that we can hang them? Was it part of the ceasefire agreement?" the Congress leader asked."Will Pakistan hand over Pahalgam terror attack 'mastermind' and Laskar-e-Taiba Commander and terrorist, Saifullah Kasuri, who attended an anti-India Rally in Lahore on 29th May, 2025," he said.Surjewala also asked whether, as part of the ceasefire, Pakistan has agreed to proscribe or ban all anti-India terrorist groups.And he named several outfits: Jaish-e- Muhammad (JeM), Jamaat-ul-Dawa (JuD), Tehreek-e-Azadi Jammu & Kashmir (TAJK), Hizb-ul-Muzahideen (HM), Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuA, presently known as HuM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jammu & Kashmir National Liberation Army, Kashmir Jehad Force, Al Jehad Force, Jammu & Kashmir Students Liberation Front, and Tehrik-e-Hurriat-e-Kashmir.The Congress leader also asked, now that there is supposedly a truce, whether Pakistan would shut down terror camps, hand over Masood Azhar, Hafiz Saeed, and Dawood Ibrahim to India."All patriots, all true nationalists, and the entire nation demand these answers," he said.According to para 18 of Lutnick's affidavit, Trump brokered peace between India and Pakistan to avoid a full-scale war between the two nuclear nations."For example, India and Pakistan - two nuclear powers engaged in combat operations just 13 days ago - reached a tenuous ceasefire on May 10, 2025. This ceasefire was only achieved after President Trump interceded and offered both nations trading access with the United States to avert a full-scale war. An adverse ruling that constrains presidential power in this case could lead India and Pakistan to question the validity of President Trump's offer, threatening the security of an entire region and the lives of millions," it read.

Deendayal's ‘integral humanism' behind Modi govt's welfare measures: Nadda
The Narendra Modi government has empowered women, farmers and marginalised sections of society by taking various measures for them, while others only talked about doing so, BJP president and Union Minister J P Nadda said on Sunday. From putting the country on the path of economic progress to lifting 25 crore people above the poverty line, the government under PM Narendra Modi's leadership has launched varioius welfare schemes for all sections, drawing inspiration from Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya's idea of 'integral humanism', Nadda said. The BJP chief was addressing the valedictory session of a two-day conclave to commemorate 60 years of Upadhyaya's lectures on integral humanism. 'Our traditions were not created in two days; they are a result of experiences of thousands of years,' he said, stressing the need to expound Indian economic thought. Nadda said that India as a country of 140 crore people cannot be centralised. 'We have to be a decentralised system,' he said. 'World standards cannot be the standards we have to adhere to; we have to have our Indian standards,' he said. He said this might not have seemed possible in Upadhyaya's time, but under PM Modi's leadership every parameter was being prepared around Indian standards. He said Upadhyaya at that time advocated 'swadeshi' and India could say today that self-reliance is the order of the times. 'We were even purchasing idols of Ganesh ji from China. Today, we are third in the toy industry,' Nadda said. 'We are also third in the automobile market.' He said that India had made strides in defence production too. 'We witnessed the success of Operation Sindoor and that of the BrahMos (missiles) as well. Our defence production has reached `1.3 crore,' he said. Under PM Modi, India had established an economic model aligning 'integral humanism; with 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', he said. Recalling Upadhyaya's message that the economy was not assessed from the person on the top of the ladder but the one at its bottom, Nadda said, 'We have taken inspiration from his Antyodaya concept (uplifting the poorest).' Nadda underlined that Upadhyaya was the inspiration for the free gas cylinder scheme — PM Ujjwala Yojana — for women. He said Swachh Bharat Mission and welfare schemes for farmers launched by the PM were also inspired by Upadhyaya. He said the government has provided cooking gas connections to more than 10 crore households, constructed 12 crore toilets and built four crore pukka houses. There is a need to understand how the government under Modi's leadership has empowered women, farmers and the marginalised sections of society, and brought them into the mainstream, he said. "Enthusiasm in Europe to enter into Free Trade Agreement with India": Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal
Paris [France], June 1 (ANI): Highlighting growing global confidence in India's economic prospects, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday said there is strong enthusiasm in Europe to enter into a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India. Speaking to ANI during his ongoing visit to Paris, France, Goyal noted that India's rising reputation has made nations increasingly eager to deepen trade and diplomatic ties. He also noted the positive momentum following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New Delhi earlier this year. 'There is no time limit for these discussions, but the European Union President, Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Modi had a meeting in New Delhi in February. It was decided that we should conclude a good Free Trade Agreement by the end of this year. Considering the relations that I have built with my counterpart, the European Union Trade Commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, I feel that we will progress very fast and take it forward soon. There is enthusiasm in Europe to enter into a Free Trade Agreement with India, and from the feedback we get from the industry in India, it seems India will also benefit from this,' Goyal said, adding that when both will benefit, it is natural that it is our responsibility to do it quickly. Earlier, while speaking to the media in Paris, Goyal also expressed gratitude towards France for its support following the terror attack in Pahalgam. 'India is very grateful to France for the strong support and solidarity expressed when there was a terror strike at Pahalgam. The French people and government also stand for zero tolerance against terrorism, just like India,' he said. He emphasised the strong personal rapport between PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, which he said had given 'fresh momentum' to the robust Indo-French relationship. 'The French Senate delegation that visited India fully supported India's stand and gave us confidence that the world stands with India when we are fighting against terrorism in all forms, whether state-sponsored or non-state actors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Macron share a very deep personal connect and rapport and have had frequent interactions, giving afresh momentum to the strong French-India ties...' he said. The commerce minister commenced his three-day official visit to France on Sunday, part of his ongoing visit to France and Italy from June 1 to 5. As part of his visit, Goyal will hold bilateral meetings with several French leaders, including Minister of Economy Eric Lombard and Trade Minister Laurent Saint-Martin. The discussions will focus on strengthening the Indo-French economic partnership and exploring new avenues for enhancing trade and investment cooperation. As part of the high-level visit to France, a comprehensive agenda of strategic business meetings and engagements has been scheduled. With top leadership of major French companies such as Vicat, Total Energies, L'Oreal, Renault, Valeo, EDF, and ATR, the visit will feature the India-France Business Round Table and the India-France CEO Forum, fostering dialogue between leading industry stakeholders from both countries. During his stay, the Minister will also participate in the informal gathering of WTO Ministers on the margins of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting. At this crucial forum, he will engage with global counterparts on key multilateral trade issues and articulate India's perspectives and priorities. BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy highlights international support against terrorism
Addis Ababa [Ethiopia], June 1 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, a member of the all-party delegation, said on Sunday that Ethiopia and its people stand in solidarity with India against terrorism. Speaking to ANI, he said, 'Across the party lines across all spectrums of the people we met, whether it was intellectuals, policymakers, ministers, government and the media, all are in unison and saying that terror cannot be accepted.' Rudy emphasised that the international community is aware of India's stance on terrorism, particularly after the Pahalgam attack. He added, 'They are absolutely for India when it comes to self-defence. They are aware of what happened in Pahalgam. They say and feel that we should have acted against terror, and they would stand by us as far as terror is concerned.' Highlighting the motive of this diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, he affirmed, 'This campaign and this messaging to the world through the various teams of parliamentarians, senior leaders, and bureaucrats is an exercise that will position Pakistan as a node of terror across the world. Tewari stated, 'Today, we were invited by the Policy Institute of Ethiopia. It is a premier think tank. We had intellectuals and policymakers, other stakeholders from all across Ethiopia who congregated here.' 'There was a vibrant discussion as to how India and Africa can collaborate in creating an upscaling, a global convention, against state sponsored terror so that this menace of export of terror, which is unique to India in the context of South Asia but is also happening in other parts of the world, can be fully and finally proscribed and consigned to the dustbin of history,' he added. The Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SCP) MP Supriya Sule-led delegation is in Ethiopia. In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Seven all-party delegations are taking part in various outreach programmes in the countries they are assigned to. The delegations aim to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its fight against cross-border terrorism. The seven delegations are visiting Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone, the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Russia, Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia, and South Africa. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pak-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
