
Kuwait's Special Olympics team gears up for first MENA equestrian competition
Athletes from ten Arab countries will take part in this significant regional event, representing their respective Special Olympics programs.
Hana Al-Zawawi, President of Special Olympics Kuwait and head of the Kuwaiti delegation, confirmed that three riders will represent Kuwait: Basma Al-Busaili, Maryam Diab, and Abdullah Al-Ali.
Al-Zawawi highlighted Kuwait's progress in building a strong foundation in equestrian sports, noting the international and regional successes of its athletes. Rider Basma Al-Busaili earned three silver medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. In comparison, Abdullah Al-Ali secured two gold medals at the 2023 Special Olympics National Games in Egypt.
She expressed full confidence in the Kuwaiti riders, who are training under the guidance of coaches Sarah Bou Hamdi and Mohammed Al-Kandari, to continue achieving excellence on the regional stage.
Al-Zawawi also extended her heartfelt appreciation to the athletes and their families for their dedication and support, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring Kuwait's success in this important Arab sporting event.

He emphasized that this achievement was the result of the great support provided by the Kuwait Olympic Committee, expressing his gratitude for its sponsorship and continued support for the stars of the national team. Six Arab countries participated in the Arab championship, which kicked off yesterday: Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Libya, Syria, and the host country, Egypt. The competition, which is the first in the history of the Arab Modern Pentathlon Federation for individual, team, and relay categories, coincided with the World Modern Pentathlon Championship, which concluded on Saturday, with the participation of 49 players from nine countries. Kuwait begins training for Asian U-17 Championship
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: Kuwait kicked off preparations for the Asian Under-17 Championship with training sessions at the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Hall in Al-Da'iya, led by Croatian coach Ivan and his assistant Khaled Al-Mulla. The early stage of training is focused on physical fitness, strength building, and ball work to help players regain sharpness ahead of the continental tournament. Meanwhile, the national U-19 squad returns to Kuwait today after completing its campaign at the 11th Junior World Championship in Cairo. Germany captured the title with a thrilling 41-40 victory over Spain in the final. Kuwait finished 26th out of 32 teams, with standout player Yousef Mohammed Madoh placing 14th among the competition's top scorers after netting 45 goals. Slovenia's Algous led the scoring charts with 67 goals. Madoh expressed pride in his achievement, describing it as another milestone for Kuwaiti handball. He credited the Handball Federation, coaching staff, and teammates for their support in helping him break into the top 15 scorers of the tournament. Team manager Yousef Al-Shahin also praised the players' efforts in Cairo, noting that those academic commitments and other challenges disrupted preparations. 'The team gained valuable experience by competing against the world's best and showed great fighting spirit. That will surely benefit us in future competitions,' he said. On the club front, Burgan opened its Bosnia training camp with a commanding 38-26 win over local side Gorazde in the first of its friendly matches ahead of the new season.

Kuwait beat Palestine in volleyball championship
Kuwait volleyball team AMMAN: Kuwaiti team outrivaled its Palestinian counterpart 3-0 on Saturday in the opening match of the 17th Arab Under-18 Volleyball Championship currently being held in Jordan. The Kuwaiti team dominated the match from the start and managed to snatch its three points. It won the match's three sets 25-20, 25-14 and 25-20. The Kuwaiti team is scheduled to face the Bahraini team on Sunday, in the second match of the Pool B preliminary round. The championship brings together 10 national teams from across the Arab world, with hosts Jordan welcoming Egypt, Iraq, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates. The teams have been drawn into two Pools A and B. Pool A features Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Lebanon and the UAE, while Pool B consists of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and Palestine. The preliminary round, which will follow a round-robin format within each pool, started on August 16. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the semifinals set for August 23, followed by classification matches on August 24.
