Before his rise to international fame, Jonas dated childhood friend Mandy Van Duyne. Their relationship took place in high school, and later inspired the Jonas Brothers' debut single 'Mandy' from It's About Time.
'Mandy is our childhood friend that has always been a part of our lives. She dated Joe at one point. Although they are no longer together, they will be best friends forever,' the band told AOL.
Jonas began dating AJ Michalka of Aly & AJ in 2006, after the Jonas Brothers opened for the sisters on tour. 'We met on tour,' Michalka said on a January 2025 episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast.
'The Jonas Brothers opened for us, and that's when we started—like, there was a spark. I was like, 'Oh, this would be fun.' We started dating on that.' Her sister Aly added, 'I mean for a young relationship, like over a year is pretty good. That's pretty solid.'
When Cooper asked Michalka to confirm whether Jonas was her first kiss, she replied, 'Yes, that is true. In a bowling alley.' She added, 'It was so innocent. It was sweet.'
Jonas and Taylor Swift dated for roughly three months in 2008. Their breakup drew widespread attention after Swift told Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that Jonas ended things in a brief phone call. 'When I find that person that is right for me, he'll be wonderful and when I look at that person, I'm not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18,' she said.
More than a decade later, Swift reflected on the moment during another appearance on Ellen in 2019, saying, 'We laugh about it now, but that was mouthy… just some teenage stuff there.' Jonas later told ITV's Lorraine that her apology 'did feel nice,' adding, 'We're all friends. It's all good. We were so young.'
Shortly after his split from Swift, Jonas began dating actress Camilla Belle. The two met while filming the Jonas Brothers' 'Lovebug' music video in 2008 and dated for several months before parting ways in July 2009. Belle's representative confirmed at the time, 'There is no third party involved and they care deeply about each other and will remain friends.'
In March 2010, Jonas confirmed he was dating his Camp Rock co-star Demi Lovato. 'He's my best friend and he's incredible,' Lovato told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush at the time. 'He's a complete gentleman, he takes me to the most amazing places… he's perfect!' she added.
Two months later, the couple split. In a statement to Us Weekly, Jonas said, 'It was my choice to break up, but I love her as a friend. She's been there for me when I needed her. I will continue to be her friend and be there for her.'

Jonas dated Twilight actress Ashley Greene for nearly a year, beginning in summer 2010.
